Okay teacher, you say just multiply the numbers under the radical right? Then shouldn't rad (-1) * rad (-1) = rad (1) = 1? Yet, the real answer is -1, explain that.

The main thing that started helping me to accept math was that I learned, all the things you do in math are like tools. The more tools you have the easier a job can be. Of course I grew up in so cal so that does explain a lot. Once I got to Illinois (UIUC) all the math started making sense because UIUC had some REAL teachers. If I asked why, they could fully and clearly explain everything without introducing any logic fallacies along the way.
