That's why we're getting the Edgeworth spin-off series, to fill time while we wait for Takumi to decide to make another main series game.

I think the fans of the franchise are being way too harsh on this game. So what if you don't play as Phoenix? So what if there's no Maya or Edgeworth? The game is still awesome and it has kept everything that made the earlier Ace Attorney-games the gems of gaming that they are. This is the best Cornered theme of the five Ace Attorney games (well, AAI is a spinoff but I still kind of count it as 'part of the series' since it does have a Cornered theme).

There's a lot that could happen between 7 years, but Gyakuten Saiban 5 is probably going to take place in 2027-2028, so that is lots of time that Maya could have finally been proven guilty and sent to death row. if she was the defendant in another case after Phoenix was disbarred, then there are chances that Kristoph was her defense attorney and failed miserably. Either that, or Yew must have came back. There's a lot that could happen between 10 years.
