The poem is speaking to everyone that places their own ideal of what a "lady" is on others. The poem points out the so-called rules of servitude & other issues in regards to how a female is supposed to behave & act. You mentioned cooperation between partners, yet the poem hasn't ANYTHING to do w/ relationships. Not following others has nothing to do w/ compromise & cooperation.
