@qterfly The British colonial government couldn't figure it out, so they took all the coffins out, and sealed the vault up so the storey goes.... It is located at the Parish Church for Christ Church in Barbados.

@labros0 The moving coffins debacle ocured in the early 1800s thus no cameras. And even now i don't tink placing a camera in the vault would do any good as the happings only ocurred when there were deceaced intered and even if dead were intered there I doubt any thing would happen as it only happened when members of the Chase family were interned.

@labros0 technically it might not be the vault that was the problem but the inhabitance interned in there. Dorcas Chase(the eldest daughter of the chase family) was rumored to have starved her self to death after being abused by her father. Then 5 weeks later Thomas Chase died and then the Moving coffin feasco began happining. I have also read an artical saying that near where the chase family buired their dead in more recent times a lead coffin actually came up out of the ground.

this story sounds like the story of the creeping coffins I found it here on you tube,,but the answer to this story is I can only say there were no earth quakes that could have moved the coffins,,its almost as if the chase family are still fighting with each other even in death,,tryin to get away from each other,,this tombe was reopened a 2nd time,,and family members were burried in the ground,,in seprate plots,,no activity has been reported,,since the coffins were taken out

The last time they opened the vault with caskets in it, one of the skeletons had seemingly punched ones of its arm out of its wooden coffin, leaving a dangling bony arm sticking out of the side of the coffin. That is when they abandoned the vault.

My understanding is that there's only one known record of this event, and given so many officials were said to be involved I'm certain that if this were true, there would be more written records available.

u dont know bajans lol, the barbadian government is the laziest i know of, im even surprised that there was 1 written record. i would figure it would only be in the news paper. trust me, when i say that the bajan government takes like 2-3 years to repave a road that would be done over night in america. its rediculous. they take so long that they need to re- lay the gravel several times because it gets washed away by rain

Two questions : 1. Is there any tectonic / earthquake activity in the area? 2. Do these vaults ever flood? Either one could move the heavy coffins. If the coffins are airtight, they would float, and if there is tectonic activity that would vibrate the coffins out of where they had been set. The third possibility is of course, a force we are not aware of and lable it the 'Supernatural'. Its anyone's guess until the truth is discovered. Thanx for putting the video on.

well, the chase vault is on top of a hill in christ church, so its highly unlikely to flood, and there was only one earthquake that i am aware of that was actually experianced in barbados, it was in 2008 and there was abselute pandemonium because no1 had been in an earthquake before lol, people were running everywhere. it was so small that no significant damages were recorded. the chase vault legend is a pretty old story. im not implying that it was supernatural or anything tho

That's cool man, I was remembering how sometimes in the past where graves or tombs would be opened and the caskets or coffins would be found on their sides or upside down or in a different postion from where they were put originally. And some of the causes were explained as being caused by earthquakes and flooding. Perhaps there is some force at work that we are not aware of that causes these things to happen? Magnetic shifts in the earth? Thanks for the reply.

yeah, the reasons u stated definitely make sense, i was just eliminating those posibilities with my local knowledge of the area, but yeah as for any more possible causes? i have no idea, it could just be a well told hoax for all we know, i havent actually seen the graves in person or the slide marks, i would like to tho haha... not that the slide marks would still be there tho
