Ok this is why they went bankrupt because soon as someone has a problem they tell the world not to buy this crap ... Im betting there is v more to this story on why they wouldn't fix it ... Gm makes awesome cars but you have to do the maintenance on it .. I would be willing to bet there is something more to this
Looks like you found the manufacturer Installed limp mode function. When the ECU determines there is a possible fault in the transmission it will disable upshifting to prevent the problem from escalating and costing them (during warranty period) or the consumer (outside warranty period) a full trans rebuild. However frustrating computer intervention is on the driving experience, the safeguards are in place to keep these cars on the road longer.
If automakers weren't so engaged in the features and specifications race to please the reviewers, they might be able to produce a reliable vehicle that could last as long as other heavy equipment. It would just involve using more proven technology even if it was a bit dated, I think people would buy such a vehicle.
The temp was probably rising because it's been at the redline for several minutes. haha. I agree though, Most automakers just aren't what they used to be. My '89 cutlass has 213,000 miles on it and still shifts and runs perfectly. If only GM still built cars like that.
@sideburns2009 Amen to that. My '84 Celebrity Wagon's pushing 240,000 miles. Original everything as my mom got it new, Oil changed every 3,000 miles, and always taken care of.
A few years ago I bought a Saturn Vue. It has been the typical American lemon car. Such a car could only be produced by people who take no pride in their work, have no idea how to engineer, have no clue when it comes to administration, use shabby parts, are unskilled/uneducated, don't practice quality control, needlessly rush production, have no loyalty to customers & show up to work on drugs. In other words, it was produced by typical American management & labor.
@toyota4life94 Imagine if it had been a 98 Tahoe, you'd have been lucky to get a grand for it. Look the whole idea is to have some equity in your vehicle after the pay off, with domestic brands your up side down the minute you take delivery, which in turn simply gets rolled into the payments of the next one. Get and stay ahead of the game by choosing the brand known for it's dependability, quality AND high resale value. Remember, there's a reason some vehicles have high resale and some don't.
"Erad5- and thats why i stick with toyota" Its people like you that cause many american jobs go across Sea's, and then you can bitch and complain theres no jobs BUY AMERICAN, AND KEEP OUR JOBS HERE!! As for the guy in the caddy if its broke, then why bother driving the car on a freeway at 6000 to 7000 RPMs. Maybe GM seen this video and refused to fix it. Tranny most likely fried, and most likely the life on that engine is shortened! Maintain your cars and trucks! and this will not happen!
@z28boy88 Actually, Toyotas have been built in the US since the early nineties - thus, creating jobs for the American people. If you look at the VIN number on American cars, the first number will show you where the car is assembled. Sadly, American cars are made mostly in either Mexico, or Canada.
I don't know why people still complain to this day about what car make is better than what.
Cars are machines, machines break down eventually. It depends how good you take of your machine that will tell all the difference. I can buy a brand new Zr1 Corvette with 2k miles on it, floor it everywhere I go for 2 months straight and then complain that the tranny blew up because it was a piece of shit.
@erad5 Me too! You know you can always tell a GM owner, you just can't tellem' much! They just keep dumping their money into a dying company insistent on building inferior products with no resale, my god when will they ever learn?
@02lb72500HD That's an easy one cause I'm a Fleet/Lease Manager, we'll buy a typical three to five year old Corolla or Civic trade with 100k on it for $5000 to $7000 and ask $8000 to 11,000 TYPICALLY. A comparable domestic brand with equal miles would only bring around $1000 to $3500 on trade and we would probably wholesale it out. It's all about demand NOT bluebook and Hondas and Toyotas simply bring the money. Pick up a copy of your local Autotrader and check it out for yourself. Thanks.
@Mrphatbastard1 Quick question: The people who buy these 100k mile cars (corolla or not) for $11000... do they have "SUCKER" tattooed on their forehead? Or is it on a name tag with flashing LEDs?
@Mrphatbastard1 You my friend are full of shit. I got my Ford Taurus with 100k on it for 5 grand, it now has almost 200k and its worth 4.5 grand. Most domestics hold there resale just fine.
@mattg889 YOU spent 5K for a Taurus with 100k on the clock and you think I'm full of shit? I love customers like you, we call them "lay downs" because they'll pay 5 grand for thousand dollar car and the salesman went home with a nice $800.00 spiff check!
@Mrphatbastard1 AHAHAHAHAHA holy shit. You think my Taurus is only worth a thousand bucks, lmfao. WOW I really feel sorry for the poor bastards who have bought those $11,000 corollas or civic's from you. I can see you are nothing more than a swindling salesman.
btw the salesman who I got it from went home with nothing, I know people. I actually got the car cheap, would have fetched about $9,000 if it was through a normal salesman. You have no idea what a car is worth, how f-ing pathetic.
@Mrphatbastard1 Actually, reading your comment again, you call those people who pay $11,000 for those $7,000 corollas or civics, you call them "lay downs"... Typical words of a salesman who loves to fuck with there customers.
Man if those customers only knew what they bought. I'm just glad I'm not that stupid, $1k for my Taurus I still can't stop laughing. haha.
@mattg889 Ok, ok your right, American brands bring ALL the money at trade in time, are the most reliable, have the best resale because they consistently rate the highest in Consumer Reports and never ask for bailouts. When your ready for your next car, which should be pretty soon now, please come and see me, I've got a great deal on a couple of Neons and a Cobalt that I can get you into for around $32.000 or so. Or how about a Saturn, I hear their collector cars now!
@Mrphatbastard1 It took you 10 hours to think up this snappy comeback... Sure I'll buy a car from you for $32 (you used a . instead of a , )
None of the domestic cars my family has had has ever failed us. It all depends on how you use them and statistically people with foreign crap tend to treat them a little better, why wouldn't you, they can't take the abuse. Ford IS all those things, and I USE my Taurus and it has never had a problem, and still runs like new! Stupid people...
@1997FordProbeGT really, just because the transmission has a problem with it doesnt mean its a lemon, GM would probably rather not service his vehicle because he is most likely trying to sue them or get a new car out of this. Cadillac's will last forever but they will also have problems along the way
@1997FordProbeGT Well whats he supposed to do on the freeway? Keep with the traffic for a temporary amount of time, or stay at 2K RPMs and get honked at all the way. Probably just did this for video purposes.
Dont drive your car when the trans has gone stop on the side of the road and call a tow truck and dont make comments on GM like that im a GM man and to me that is offensive. I HATE FORD!!!
Similar problem is being reported with many Volkswagens. The EPC light illuminates, and the message display briefly says "Engine fault workshop!", and won't let you rev above 3,000 RPM! And these are luxury cars, which I don't get!
ur an idiot, all it is is needing a simple transmission shift point adjustment, take it to any mom and pop shop tranny shop and have it reprogrammed so it will shift sooner, i had a f-150, i know not a gm but anywho, it wouldnt shift until like 4 grand but after a 10 min reprogram it shifts like butter
@chevyrules687 when gm went bankrupt, they voided warranties on ALL of their vehicles, even if they were brand new. how is that for fucking your loyal gm customers? sounds like a shitty deal to me, buying a brand new vehicle with no warranty. where do i sign? all gm did and continues to do is lie lie lie. there are are alot of stupid people out there.
LoL rOfL oMfG gTfO!! its the internet biatch not a spelling bee or english class! how can i be nerd and not spell. IDIOT u just made a RAH-TARD outta urself!! (yes i kno how to spell retard, i just made an allusion to the Hangover.)

how does gm suck i mean if they made 100,000 plus Cadillac cts and 1200 failed that's only 1.2% of the cars that's well within the standards for quality not every part is going to work right all the time there is going to be problems with some of them
lexus looks like crap (cause toyota bought it) u shudve gotten a benz, thats class. all cars can be a lemon, toyota recalls show how great their cars are. there not.
GM sucks and my transmission went with only 23,000Km on it and they replaced it and it started jumping again. glad I got someone to take over my lease, GM sucks and rebuild nothing you still have shitty customer service.
