mas alla de las evaluaciones o resultados lo mejor fue haber tenido la posibilidad de aprender de usted, reciba toda mi admiracion, gracias por darnos el enorme tesoro de su experiencia y conocimiento
Since this is the last screenside chat I would like to wish all of you at Stanford University a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year in advance. :-)
Cheers,
Wilson Pardi Junior, from Japan
PS. As a final suggestion, give a special AND signed letter of accomplishment to Amy Cunningham since she helped thousands of students with her simple but very helpful explanations about ALL topics covered in this course. She really deserves a special recognizition from you ;-)
I've already said it, but again THANKS A LOT for making this FREE course available to thousands of people around the world! It was the first time I've studied databases formally and I really enjoyed it (video lectures, optional and assigned quizzes and exercises, exams and Q & A forum)!
There were so many interesting things to study that I'm sure I will make a personal review of all the material in a near future :-)
As we all remember in 16th December we will receive the results of the course.
After midterm there will be some statistics about how many people passed the exam and a range of results.
Dr. Widom, all of us know that you will be very-very busy this time but could you please find a few minutes again and tell us interesting statistics (range of exam grades with number of people, the most difficalt question in exam and so on)?
Thanks in advance and very big thanks for your work.
Sincere thanks to you, Great Professor and your team. This has been a wonderful educative session. As Robert Brault said "The average teacher explains complexity; the gifted teacher reveals simplicity", to me, you are the Gifted Teacher. THANKS A LOT!
I'm not one of those "more active students", but i must say that making the possible with every "free" time was interesting too. Those were some of the more expected times of my student days. I really enjoyed the course, the class, had much, much fun with it and i will really miss it.
Thank you again and wish you a merry Christmas in advance of your daughter's animation.
Thanks a lot to Prof. Widom and her staff. It has been a great experience! I never tought possible to actually take a course that is similar to what Stanford students are learning. Best regards, I'm very happy to have participated on the project!
I really wish this is the beginning of a new era of better, cheaper, more open, transparent and accessible education for everyone in the planet. That's one of the things that would really make the difference in this world.
Very happy to hear the materials will be available later; I had to make the difficult decision to take 2 of 3 courses on offer, and since working with DBs and XML is already a big portion of my career for the past 10 years, I opted to focus on the other 2 courses I knew less about in hope I could come to this one later and flesh out the gaps in my knowledge. I wish now I'd been a part of the course from the start, and it is great I may still be able to recommend it to others beyond this term.
Thanks very much to everyone involved in this project! I've not been the best student, but I've definitely learned a lot and enjoyed myself very much. Professor Widom, your enthusiasm for the topic is infectious and you are a wonderful teacher! I really appreciate you and everyone for putting this course together. I've loved being a part of the "classroom of the future!" I'm a little sad that it is over but glad I got to be here.
Prof. Widom & team, thank you very much for pushing ahead in the realm of education and for providing this course - for free - too all of us. I've very limited programming and db experience and practice as an environmental process engineer. This has been quite challenging, but I think I've done moderately well and that should reflect on your ability to present the material to a range in audience, drawing them in and enabling them. I'll be trying to incorporate into my everyday! from South Africa
Loved the class, loved the chats, loved your daughter's animations... Over too quickly! Thanks so much to everyone for all the work they put in to pull this off!
Many thanks for the course! Great opportunity for many of us to learn in a structured way the theoretical base of what we have been doing, by and large, by try-and-error method. I myself came into programming from a different domain, and although I have many years of experience (including work with data), this course was now and then an eye-opener for me. Thanks to all who was involved, especially to Prof.Widom, for their enthusiasm in sharing the knowledge, and may many others follow the suit!
Thanks to Prof Jennifer Widom for this great class and I will miss you and your enthousiastic teaching. It was really great to have you to teach us. Thanks also to all those working hard behind the curtains to make this possible with high quality level. That was really appreciated. I was one of those requiring captions and subtitles and the high quality on this side was greatly appreciated.
Merry Christmas to all of you and my fellow students best wishes for the upcoming year!
I would enjoy a follow-up Screenside Chat with additional reflections and information about the final scores. Most often in-person classes end with the term. Online, the time boundary can be broken.
Thanks. I hope to take the full class at some point when work is not so demanding of my time.
Thank you and your team for the course, website, videos, time & effort! Everything was brilliant, and I can't think of anything to improve. I hope other schools will be inspired to follow your example. I'm excited about the other Stanford courses that have been announced for 2012! It was sometimes difficult to fit everything into my work-schedule, but it truly enriched the last couple of weeks - and I learned a lot some of which I could already apply in my job:) Thanks again for this great gift!
Thanks Professor. I did poke around MIT OCW vids a lot but a "personalised" class experience where you get to share a schedule with fellow students was a big motivator in keeping me on my toes and not slacking off.
The lectures were excellent and the workbench based exercises were a nifty addition which I liked a lot(Is the source code for the Berry workbench out there somewhere??). Thanks Again.
Thank you, Professor Widom, for making this course available in such an easily accessible fashion. I've really enjoyed learning the material this way and have enjoyed your videos and your screenside chats. As others have said, please thank all of those who assisted you in making this course happen, and thank Stanford, too, for allowing this to be offered free to those of us who can't attend classes at the university.
Looking forward to what you might offer in the future!
Thank you Professor Widom and everyone behind the scenes that made this course possible! I just finished the final exam. I originally started the course mainly to learn SQL but I learned much more! The exercises were great and the quizzes both both in the video and standalone, definitely made sure we understood what was presented in the videos. Thanks again to Prof. Widom, the team, and all my fellow 10K+ classmates!
Thank you so much for the course. I'm going to miss it too. Sometimes I feel like I'm really in campus even there's snow behind my window. Good Luck! One more time: thank You, professor Widom and all the staff, making it possible!
Professor Widom: Thank You for this great learning experience. I enjoyed the format and the methodology. I wish to thank you and your staff for the effort you put in
Thank you so much Professor Widom. I know many of us may never get the chance to meet you in person but you've greatly influenced our lives and helped us gain skills and knowledge we may never have had the chance to get otherwise.
I 100% SUPPORT THIS MODEL OF EDUCATION AND THINK IT WILL CHANGE THE WORLD!
Your teaching skills are 1000x better than I've been getting from a simultaneous course at my University. And this course format is far better than what we get in class.
Thank you for all the time and effort that you've put into this class. And thank you, Stanford, for allowing a course like this to be taught for FREE to hundreds of thousands of students.

Thank you Prof. Widom and staff, it's been a incredible experience for me and for sure I've learnt loads. I think Brazilians students are very proud about the class.
Thank you so much.
