yeah id never buy a blue luke saber because anakins lightsaber is lukes lightsaber so i thought there was no point in getting a luke blue since it only has minor differences

Lukes is basically a battle damaged anakin the different parts were replacements/modifications to the lightsaber so it will work properly

digitallty enhanced to make them look better on screen. i would also hope that throughout all the films the blade will look better in episode one they were kind of blurry, in 2 they were ok, in 3 it didn't really make sense why they hade points,in 4 and 5 the shape of the blades were inconsistant, from far away they looked great but up close they looked like crap they looked too thin and lukes saber in 4 during the training sequence changes from blue, to green, to white which they have fixed

it burt he took what he learned from the experience to modify the lightsaber a second time also as shown in the novel and comic adaption of splinter of the minds eye luke used a shard of the kyburr crystal to increase the power of the lightsaber which is probbably why the blade is even darker than the in either episode 3 or 4. maby when the blu-ray comes out there will be made some modifications to the lightabers. i know as a fact form the star wars website that lukes and vaders blades will be

also the focusing crystal in the saber would have worn overtime and obi-wan wouldn't have access to a replacement crystal which would explain why the blade is a lighter shade of blue in episode 4. as for the lightsaber in episode 5, actually, in the holiday special luke had a completely different saber than in any of the films becuase the prop department lost the original, so it has been speculated that at one time for some reason luke tried to build his saber and faild as he never actually used

my guess the reason why the three versions of the lightsaber are so different is that in between episodes 3 and 4 obi-wan was living on tatooieen a desert planet so he would of had to of keeped up and maintain the lightsaber because of the harsh conditions but would only have access to the junk on tatooieen plus he lived in near suclusion fo 20 years so he had to do something to pre occupy himself besides watching lukle training to become one with the force or he probbably would have went insane

hey i just bout a luke anh  for 42 pounds from ebay in the destription they say its got a few marks on it do you think it will change it much and also do you know anywhere that sell stands for sabers because it doesnt come with one please reply

they sell horizontal stands on ebay or vertical ones too and it shouldnt make a difference on a "few" marks

The real reason (behind the scenes) for the differences is not actually a continuity error, but it is to do with licencing. As you know, the original was based upon a graflex. Lucas was involved in some sort of legal battle with the graflex designers which prevented him from using the same saber design in EP 3 (+ possibly EP 5, since that one is also different). He managed to keep the general design of the EP 4 saber in EP 3, but he made just enough changes to stay on the legal side of matters.

This is explained in the storyline as Obi Wan making some adjustments to Anakin's lightsaber between EPs 3 and 4 in order to tend to the general wear and tear which would have naturally accumalated over 20 years. It makes some sense since Obi's own saber was very worn by Episode 4.
