Seems this song was covered by various artist but whom was the original out of the bunch. Anyone out there know let me know. Have always loved this song.
This was released in Europe as a single and there is some conjecture as to whether Billy actually recorded it before The Searchers, but they were quicker getting hteir version out
Funny...The tempo, the staccato drumbeat and the heavy guitars...makes me wonder if John Lennon and Paul McCartney heard this take and went away and composed "Ticket To Ride"...
Nice version, but not as good as the Searchers. I listen to their version every night just so I can hear their lovely harmony, and hear Chris playing the drums on it!
@ChrisCurtisFan In my view better than the Searchers ( more gutsy), if a little slow. Not nearly as good as the original Jackie DeShannon version though ( Glen Campbell played the electric 12 string riff on that track ). See You Tube for the 60s video
I think the riff on this was a double tracked 6 string ( as this was George Martin's practice with the Dakotas.
@woodwaj Billy did a benefit concert for world hunger year from the ed sullivan theater which was on the radio when asked whats it like being back here he said " well the dressing room is still the same " .
Very Beatles like arangement. I know McCartney wrote from a window for them.
Pretty good group!

@afton1955
Jackie de Shannon wrote the song and recorded it first. But the most popular version is the one by THE SEARCHERS.
Best wishes,

Sluggish. Clearly not a "for release" take.

Too bad it's so slow,
He had a good voice for these kind of songs.G. Martin made the early Beatles records fast.He should have done that here.

recorded in 1964 but never released until it was included on a 1970's greatest hits compilation.

Never heard this till recently. Love the Searchers version but this is more hard hitting and has more passion.
Thanks for posting.
