This bridge collapse was caused by human error Either Engineering design, material quality, inspection standards, inadequate allowance temperature changes or other factors caused this error. It will be curious to see if funding for annual Bridge Inspection Programs by the Federal Highway Administration and other agencies has been cut on an ongoing basis in favor of funding Bush's Oil War in Iraq. Sad situation regardless, my condolences to the families of those affected.
Maybe it was cut in favor of funding Clinton's and Pelosi's insatiable appetite for welfare and other social spending....hmmmm? Or maybe you are just a real devil for trying to make politics out of this tragedy?

I live in Minnesota. My uncle would have been on that bridge if the bridge wasn't closed. :') He saw it happen too!!! :( *CRIES*

As gas tax money gets dirverted for other causes, ALL gas tax money should be spent on the highway infrastructure rebuilding.
Just wait until one of New York's bridges falls into the river!

no funding cuts. it was inspected in 2005 and again in 2007. No structural faults were found (though obviously SOMETHING was wrong).
It was also under some new construction at the time.
