  • How can you get a promotion in the military?

  • I'm 34 now, been in over 13 years now.

  • @marcusos1111: thanks! I don't usually feel so young, I've been a First Sergeant now for almost 3 years, starting just 4 months after this video was taken. Leading is always a challenge and takes alot out of you if you care. On the inside I feel like I'm ready for a retirement home.

  • It's funny that I look at this video of my promotion to SFC taken not too long ago, and now just over 27 months later, I've been selected for promotion to Master Sergeant. Everything COL Burton said then is just as true now. And after having served these last 2 years as a First Sergeant, I know that I made the right choice then to stay in and continue my Army career.

  • Can't wait to hit SFC. I just got SPC, so I've got a loooong way

  • how do you rank up

  • In army you do stay out of trouble and goto a promotion board after so much time in service...

  • i thought 5 star general aka general of the army is the best rank ???

  • good work

  • His first platoon sergeant was a burmese? That's amazing! (if he did say burmese)

  • wow uve gone through private, private first class, specialist, corporal, sergeant, staff sergeant and then sergeant first class!

  • I rather be 1SG then SFC

  • Oh and I agreed with you, that's why I've been a 1SG since last March. Thanks for the input.

  • whats the difference between sergeant first class and first sergeant?

  • what's SFC?

  • Congrats on the promotion. Btw I thought First Sergents had three rockers under the cheverons? Or is that the old WW2 ranking I'm thinking?

  • they do but were talking sergeant first class not First sergeant. sergeant first class has 2 rockets

  • everything the colonal said is very true. Congrats Srgeant!!

  • Congratulations Sargeant!! You've made us proud.

  • "yelled at by nazi's in uniform" ? what the hell does that mean LOL

  • It means that we don't take too kindly to the kind of Soldiering that involves simply bullying your subordinates around, that's not the right way to develop aspiring future leaders.
