  • I actually saw the sequel to the "second" WoW movie. It was hillarious. :-)

  • Comment removed

  • also, i loved the reamke (june 29th realeased int heatres), its a very good movie, but i was only young when i saw the origional so i cant compare it, i can only rember sall parts only a couple of seconds long, so i cant judge

  • the reason they used flying saucers was because they couldnt afford to make all the moddels for the tripods, so they made simple flying ones and hung them from string instead of using fiddly leg mechanics, but it hads been done before so i dont know that it would make much difference in the cost

  • i have the sequel of war of the worlds. its only 3/4 hour long, and boring as shit!

  • I remember my grandma telling me about that radio incident XD

  • @UltimasIsland she thought it was real?

  • @TheReddevil0121 Yeah o.o I wasn't alive at the time though

  • My only complaint about the War of the Worlds is that THE ALIENS ARE TOO POWERFUL! I get it their technology is more advanced but in recent years there have been films that show aliens with more tech but can still be killed such as Skyline, Battle: LA, Transformers, Falling Skies etc. THE FILM IS CALLED WAR OF THE WORLDS! According to Emma Frost from X-men a war is a conflict where both sides have an equal chance of winning. The more you watch the battles, the more you want the humans to win.

  • @theknightswhosayfrak You sir have summed it up, perfectly.

  • @theknightswhosayfrak I know what your saying, but you have to understand, H.G. Wells was friggin EPIC! He wrote about this, in amazing detail! From how they got here, their anatomy, their weaponry, what the future will hold for man (including some humans being kept as pets, food and labor)! He was born in 1866, and wrote about space invaders with heat rays! Thats bad ass right? But you know, it was more like an "the earth is ending!" movie.

  • Comment removed

  • @theknightswhosayfrak cause the book was written 1898.

in 1898 they didn't really have technology to compare with tripods from mars

it's not supposed to be about a "war", but an apocalypse and even at the end, if you listen to the original broadcast with Orson Welles he says "sleign after all of mans greatest defenses had failed, by the humblest thing that god in his wisdom's had put upon this earth"

  • if you go to mecurytheatre.info and find the "War of the Worlds" click the mp3 and listen to it if you ever have the chance, it's truly amazingly done

in the broadcast they even say "there was no war, not anymore than there is war between man and ants!"

  • 0:07 Film?

  • 04:10 He is right CG is overused. I guess back when Terminator 2 and Abyss came out it was new and only used in a few scenes for the creatures. In this day in age its used as a crutch. Models and Muppets were used alot in the 80s, it was fake. James is right there was a lot of heart when animatronics are done right same goes with CGI. I guess Jurassic Park did it best you cant tell when its CG or models b/c they mixed it well.

  • I read about the war of the worlds radio oh the claims to have seen these martions

  • the war of the worlds remake came out on my birthday, june 29, who would've thought

  • @zred99

Hell yeah, im June 29 too!

  • @zred99 Yep, And Me! I actually went to see it on my Birthday. I thought it was awesome!

  • whaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaattttttttttttttttt

  • I caught it on Bob wire i said!!

  • Why am I not surprised the other 2 War of the Worlds remakes had god awful CGI, they came from the Asylum, you know the guys who make cheap ass rip offs and release them with with titles that add one word or change a few letters of the actual title to make you think it's the same as the real movie, or in the case of Titanic II, a sequal, with CGI that looks like it was done by a homeless guy falling asleep on the keyboard and casts who are desperate for paychecks or were plucked off the street

  • @snakes3425 Actually the first remake was made by Pendragon Pictures

  • @TheLegendkiller2100 Pendragon Pictures, they're an indie film company

  • I CAUGHT IT ON BARBED WIRE I SAID !!!

  • @TheChainsOFMisery The kid :Damn it there is no barbwired wire around here I said again!!

  • The alien at 09:10 looks more like the Spider Mastermind from Doom to me.

  • Shame he doesn't talk about the musical version.

  • 4:27 why would you need to green screen a field and some trees? If the film makers hadn't of wasted money on stuff like that the rest of the effects probably would look so ass.

  • @ImFlufy WE ALL DO FLUFY!!!!! WE ALL DO.......

  • Invaders from Mars reminds me the same dream I would usually have.

  • I just like listening to James' voice. It's so radiant.

  • That's what I like about James; even when something is absolute crap he gives it a chance

  • James has to realize that the War of the Worlds remake alternately-titled "Invasion" is a mockbuster intentionally released the same time as the big-budget one to deceive consumers into buying their cheap version.

  • is it just me or does it seem that james always praises the originals and mostly bashes the remakes dont get me wrong most remakes are ass but alot of the originals arent THAT great either just sayin

  • @spartankratosfan1 If the originals weren't good, they wouldn't have been remade.

  • The Speilberg 'War of the Worlds' is watchable and I like it. But godamn it Dakota Fanning was just an awful actress in this movie. All she did was scream scream and scream. I just wanted to reach in and slap her.

  • @stlouisrocker100 But it did make it seem more real. I mean, a little girl screaming all the time is annoying as fuck but I imagine that's what a child would be like. I probably would.

  • @TheGrasshugger True. But her screaming nearly ruined it for me. At least the special effects were good and I loved the design of the tripods.

  • I've been to the War of the World (Spielberg) set. It costed I think $11,000,000 to fly in the tail section of the plane, and plane was actually real but saved to tear up for the movie.

  • 7:40 Invasion form Mars released in April 22, 1953 it end with the kid waking up and all it was just a nightmare.

Robot Monster released June 10, 1953 had the same ending, but instead of pijama green aliens it had one alien, a gorilla with a helmet and a bubble machine

  • 4:31 BLOOPER the arm of the alien machine in the back of Big Ben is lost in the decoration

  • Comment removed

  • i saw timothy hines' version of war of the worlds and ive seen better effects on youtube videos by 12 year olds.

  • @TheCRAZYLEGS14 I like the music in Timothy Hines' version, too.

  • when i was a kid the wae of the worlds scared me so much i had nightmares

  • The War of the Worlds remake that your should 2nd was made by "The Asylum" there a low budget company that makes movies direct to DVD around the time hollywood blockbusters come out in theaters. James you should see some of the laughable files they made like "Transmorphers"

  • My Grandpa was a kid during the Orson Welles broadcast. he says he didn't buy it, but i have my suspicions

  • @maiwork6666666 The Orson Welles broadcast craze was heavily exaggerated:

    cracked[dot]com/article_18487_6-ridiculous-history-myths-you-probably-think-are-true_p2.html

  • I don't know about Krang as that brain-head alien, but I definitely think of the main boss of HL1...

  • The HL2 Strider was based after War of the Worlds!

  • Holy shit, I've never heard anything that sounded as good in any movie as the martian ships firing in the 1950s film

  • i do not like Steven Spielberg's War of the Worlds, i like the original book and film because the film says "british>americans" in the book, the british military took out about 3 Martian Fighting Machines (1 felled by the artillarymen and 2 more defeated by the sacrifice of the H.M.S. Thunderchild.) whereas the Americans failed to destroy one of the Fighting Machines

  • @mattmanganon I hated that too.

  • I hope to God one day someone makes a proper war of the worlds film. Set in England in 1898. No shields/forcefields . And "Aloo" as the Martian cries... Heck, i'd even take "Ulla". God bless Jeff Wayne.

  • i remember that alien that grabbed that ladies shoulder in the 1953 war of the worlds when i saw it as a little kid that alien scared me shitless i dont understand why well now i can look at it and not be scared at all

  • @TheMohguy That's exactly how I was with "Mars attacks" I was 6 and the alien's design freaked me the fuck out.

  • he 's going to take you back to the past to watch some awesome films that kick ass.

he'd rather have some stop motion

instead of cgi that sometimes looks ass

    it's the amazing cinemassacre

    it's the awesome cinemassacre

    it's the far-out cinemassacre

  • can you please do a review an world of the world 2 the new batch

  • But now war of the world is now a Opera musical

  • My friends want someone to remake Plan 9 from Outer Space

  • Hi AVGN,, have you ever seen "Tremors"

  • i liked the steven spielberg version alot. i don't get why people hate it. i think its great

  • most of these movies are on netflix check em out

  • 0909 near perfect replica of Doom's spider mastermind

  • the book was horrible. second by second described.

  • Timothy Hines is making another movie called The War Of The Worlds, The True Story, the tripods and special effects looks 3X better then his first adaption.

  • war of the worlds (the spielberg one) is my favorite movie of all time. <3

  • "This was before CG came and took a shit all over everything."

I don't know about that. When I look at examples like the creatures in Lord of the Rings, or the Prawns from District 9, or hell any of the good CG work that comes out of studios like Weta Digital, I have to say that's FAR from a shit of any kind.

Though I agree there should be more practical effects too.

  • @FireSpirit117 I think he means after CG replaced puppets.

  • I HATE the Timothy Hines War of the Worlds, it is my least favorite movie.

  • Three ''War of the Worlds'' movies released in the same year is no coincidence at all, it's just the other 2 low budget movies leeching off Spielberg's big budget movie is all.

In 1989 there were three underwater movies released that same year. Wanna take a guess? ''Deep Star Six'' then ''Leviathan'' & finally the big one ''The Abyss'' same deal the 1st, 2nd leeching off James Cameron's big budget ''Abyss'' movie & all three went to theaters.

I did like DS6 in all it's low budget glory.

  • I have watched some of those kinda movies (incl. those you said in this trilogy of videos) and that is awesome

  • @andrezlatin I mean the first and third part of your review and this one

  • at 4:23 that scream is from the game risk

  • War of the Worlds with Tom Cruise SUCKED big time. The girl (Dakota Fanning) was SO FUCKING ANNOYING WITH HER FUCKING CRYING ALL THE FUCKING TIME!

Get fucking real god damn it!

  • @Bram25 YEAH SAYING FUCKING MAKES YOU LOOK FUCKING COOL, AM I FUCKING RIGHT?

  • @screamsinfamous

FUCK YEAH YOU FUCKING FUCK! :P

But serious, the Tom Cruise version was just sucky.

  • @Bram25 yes

i agree the screaming little was just a little cock sucking bitch

  • =J

  • stephan spielberg an war of the worlds that mixes

  • I think the Direct-to-DVD movies of War of the worlds was achully so-called mockbusters.

  • @linuslillen01 achully? lol

  • I read the manuscript for the thing and couldn't sleep the next night. Also I had nightmares for weeks. It was mainly the defib-turned-arm Omnom that got me.

  • @ProGamer0706 Which version? The original or one of the three remakes?

  • I was really surprised when I got a War of the Worlds replica for my bday, not of the newest one the flying saucer, great stuff.

  • progamer0706 same here bro

  • I've read War of the Worlds and I've seen the 50's movie and the Tom Cruise remake. The 1950's version did an awful job sticking to the book and was ripe with overly idiotic 1950's stereotypes. The Tom Cruise movie was epic and, despite the setting of the book taking place 100 years prior to the movie, followed the book relatively well.

  • I love the AVGN. But in all his reviews, may they be about a game or a movie, it seems that he always prefers something " outdated " . I have never heard him say : I prefer this over the original " or " It looks much more awesome than the prequel " .

  • @BlauRFasan its problably because some movies are good as they are but in his top 30 movies part 1 he says that he prefer the scarface remake from the 80's instead of the one from the 30's (and yes im talking about the al pacino movie its a remake)

  • Pendragons was bad but the thing was the started back in 2000 with there story and spielberg and cruise just kept attacking them.

  • the little girl in the spielberg version of war of the worlds IS SO FUCKING ANNOYING everytime she screams its like i got stapped in the fucking ear

  • Have you reviewed the Godzilla movies(THE ORIGINAL ONES)?If not,do it! (if yes,can someone link me)

  • @Deidara1BG godzillathon

  • I hear that they are making a sequel to the Planet of the Apes remake called The Rise of the Planet of the Apes. I thought about it for a minute and then instantly thought of the War of the Worlds by David Micheal Latt and it's sequel the War of the Worlds 2 - The Next Wave.

  • @DeoxysPrimeJr They are making it. It's a remake and a prequel, and it is also part 10 (or something similar to that) of the Planet of the Apes series.

  • @DeoxysPrimeJr Is actually a prequel.

  • in holland the c.thomas howel movie is sold as "the worlds in war"

  • "The aliens look like they belong in a video game."

Come on, James! You know for a fact that most games even back in 09 looked better than that garbage.

Also, whenever James rags on CG how come he always picks the shitty examples? I know he's pointed out bad examples of stop-motion and animatronics before, but when he talks about a movie with bad CG he seems to use it as a representation of the technique as a whole even when there are better examples of CG elsewhere. What's up with that?

  • @FireSpirit117 of course they would , 09 is 3 years after that movie was released. games in 2004 looks better is what you should say.

  • @alienvspredator444 Yeah but this vid was made in 09 and there were plenty of great looking games by then.

  • Those Alien things vs Godzilla.............who would win

  • I knew the speilberg war of the worlds best, but I really wanted to see the 50's one!

  • CG is used today because it's quicker, it's easier to make, and looks better if done right. To me, good CG is:

-a CG animated movie like anything Pixar

-when it looks really realistic, like Gollum from Lord of the Ring, or the T-1000 from Terminator 2

-or for style purposes, like Sin City or Scott Pilgrim

  • @KelanDWood actually, independence day didn't use that much CG. They used a lot of models and most scenes were authentic, like the wall of flames.

  • @leniinl you're ring about the puppets thing. However, if you use CG, make it look really good. I don't like Avatar, but it looked amazing.

  • I HATED the speilberg version of war of the worlds. The downfall of it is is dakota fanning's character. She is the biggest crybaby in a movie I have ever seen. Every single time you see her, she's always screaming, wining and crying.

  • @leniinl I don't hate CG, but I hate when it's overused. I understand that movies like Transformers have to have CG, but in other movies like the fourth indiana jones, they overused it way too much. People can't act around CG. In LOTR, it's a perfect balance between authenticity and CG. I'm a late 90s kid, but I watch a lot of classic movies that my friends don't even know exist. I know some people who haven't even seen a black and white movie because it's black and white. All people care about

  • @samipod42 I definitely see where you're coming from. i disagree in that people can't act around CG- good actors can act around anything. yes LOTR is a perfect blend. I think bashing on a movie for bad CG is reasonable but praising a movie for horrible looking "animatronic" puppets because it's the "art of its time" is just silly. bad is bad no matter what time period it is.

  • man you have to stop hating on CG. your bias is seriously overflowing on this shit it's sad. i love your stuff man but its obvious you never go into remakes with "an open mind." I'd rather see CG than that shitty looking 80s bullshit. 80s and 90s were straight garbage and i was born in the 80s.

  • @leniinl isn't there actually a video where he admits that he hates cg?

  • @zachzilla26 yea I remember now he did admit that lol. reminds me of a snobbish purist or sorts. almost like the comic book guy in the simpsons. he should make a character like that and name him "snobby black and white movie guy."

  • @leniinl What was the video? I can't remeber, but it had to be a movie review. Does he even give a reason why? Does he only think that movies should onlybe done like the 80's has?

  • @leniinl I diagree 100% sometiems CG is better sometimes it isn't. James expresses his honest opinions well. It doesn't look bad in the 80s but saying it looks bad in the 90s is ridicules. Jurasic Park,Terminator 2,Independence Day(even though it's pretty average as an overall film),The Matrix your saying these have bad special effects ridicules

  • the second remake at 5:50 looks like a cg effect on a danboe video

  • Tom Cruise is a awful actor! especially in the remake of War of Worlds

  • Do the aliens reveal themselves in the War Of The Wrolds movie by David Michael Latt? (Not the machines, the cretaures)

  • @TheFartking90 yes they do. its only like a one or two second glimpse of what they look like. if u do watch it it will be the part where the two are stuck in the building and are become more and more tired.

  • @buggyboo81

Oh how nice you could answer, like a turd in he sun :)

And no,there are War of the Worlds Muckbusters from Good Time Entertainment and Asylum, just use IMDB... or no, you're not smart enough, here is the link splittet up (damn youtube) imdb com / title / tt0449040

  • for me as i am half american half german and i speak both languages perfect

when you said poltergeis i was like wtf because your german sounds awsome

  • cuz Chris is a beast.

  • why's irategaymer related to avgn videos?

  • @MrDahlas Why did you have to ruin this page of the comment with another irategamer/avgn comment?

  • Yeah that whole War of the Worlds radio broadcast people killed themselves and their children... kinda sad,

but what am I talking about I make videos about making fun of catastrophes

  • @GNVstudios people should have been smarter, at some time before hand they must have stated that it was a production

  • The 2 War of the Worlds remakes you spoke of, are Mockbusters. They are cheap produced, with awful b-movie actors and shitty effects. So, if a Blockbuster is going to Cinema, shortly before or at the start day of the Blockbuster, they release the Mockbuster on Disc. One big label is "The Asylum" - they made "The DaVincy Treasure", or "The day the earth stopped" etc. Just search for Trailers and release dates- i.e. Almighty Thor IMDB tt1792794 -> 7 May 2011 to 7 May 2011 for Thor Cinemastart.

  • @Spelter what? you idiot thor had nothing to do with asylum

  • I live invaders from mars from bring a little kid.

It's weird cause the mother and father sleeping separate beds cause I guess nobody ever fucked before 1980. It's weird how as a child I couldn't square this image with my parents sleeping in the same bed

    Lol

  • Go to 4:27 watch the tripod on the left, watch the furthest tentacle/metallic arm, notice it disappears as it goes past big ben

Must've been a big whoops right there LOL

  • the 2005 wofw is my favorite by far and i dont care what people think

  • The other 2 r not a good tone to call WOTW!!!!!

  • Those other movies look war to scary for me!!!!(the 3 WOTW 2005 movies) I only like the spell berg one I have on DVD butt thats shit next to 1953 WOTW!!!!!!! I love WOTW!!!!!!

  • lmao!! kid got slapped! 8:02

  • I'm not a Spielberg or Cruise fan, but I liked the '05 version, especially how it conveys the emotion - the only thing that really pissed me off outside of surviving the jet crash was that the miracle grenades that Maverick used hadn't cooked off in their burnt-out HMMWV - c'mon.

  • I thought I was the ONLY person who liked the second 2005 WOTW remake. I'm still not sure why everyone hates it. It's not bad.

  • I personally feel War of the Worlds is a story that hasn't aged well. The martians dying from diseases in the original book made sense because it was written before we had anti-biotics and it was more common for invading armies to die of diseases, nowadays it just makes the aliens look stupid.

  • by invading the "world" you mean "america" lol.....

  • What I dont get is that Tom cruise is in war of the worlds and hEd running from the aliens, wouldn't he like go after them cuz he is scientologist

  • strange i remember seing a war of the worlds movie that was in black & white and only ever showed the aliens leg

  • I thought the 2005 Spielberg "War of the worlds" was too focused on the human characters and the alien invasion seemed to be secondary to the plot.

  • Acutally, they weren't hovering vehicles. They had electromagnetic legs and an electromagnetic shield. If you watch as they shoot at it, you see the three invisible legs.

  • Yes I must say. The war of the worlds novel is better than ALL THE movies. It's a bit disturbing. It tells about how they feed...

The real book was genius though.

  • If they make a new live action TMNT movie, they should get the puppet at 8:58 for Krang.

  • I think saying that the fact that 3 remakes came out the same month made the Spielberg one less enjoyable is stupid.

The Spielberg one is really the only one that counts. It's the only one released in theaters and the others were obviously just trying to cash in on its hype

  • @Theriot6592 I agree. One of them was made by the Asylum, which does that a lot. They made movies actually called Transmorphers and Alien vs Hunter

  • @leskj33 they also made masterpieces like Sharktopus

  • @leskj33 They made others like The 7 Adventures of Sinbad, Almighty Thor and Snakes on a Train.

  • the aliens look from the june 14th war of the worlds like octorocks.

  • I thought the Spielberg version of War Of The Worlds was an awesome movie. Some of the spfx were crap but there's a lot of incredible imagery to make up for some of the bad spfx. The spfx is not the reason I love this movie though. The movie would of been an ultimate bore if there was no suspense but the suspense is high. I love the emotional components from the father-son relationship & the 9-11 kind of feel. Also the character development is great. If you enjoy it for what it is it's a blast

  • 7minutes and 35 seconds then its the end of world at war...

  • @capie44 The white-boy scientists dig it up, take to the other side of the island for study, whereby the revenant gets up to get its revenge on its murderer-only to be shot in the dagger which seats it deeper in the heart which is the key to killing the Revenant. Happily ever after. Does anyone have a clue?

  • @capie44 It sounds familiar. Unfortunately i don't know the name of the movie.

  • @Biznatch255 I asked this question on another B-movie and FINALLY got an answer after googling it for ten years and not having a match. Someone knew the movie--it is really cheezy, but it stuck with me since I was ten--forty years ago. "From Hell it came" (1957). That tree really gave me the jidders--even though it was sooooo foam & yarn!

  • @capie44 Sweet dude. I think AVGN mentioned it in one of these vids.

  • it is said at some point in the movie that the saucers are not actually flying. they have invisable legs

  • I remember when the Nostalgia Critic was going to do an Old vs. New of War of the Worlds, but then canceled it because he didn't think there was much to talk about between the two movies. Anyone agree or disagree?

  • i will never forget those three fingers - thats what she said

  • Actually the movie ships WERE three legs, but they were "invisible" if u look at the ground during those shots, sparks fly straight from the ground where the legs contact the ground

  • Dam he smacked that kid hard.

  • It wouldnt be suprising if Irate Gamer started movie reviews too. That gay butcrack cock muncher.

  • @Darkez982 fuck you. James is/will/ always be the best videogame/movie reviewer EVER!!! NOW STFU. And if you love IrateGamer so much y are you on this page??

  • @eXpLodingj2ice2

Sorry, I guess I didn't type my comment properly haha, I fucking hate the IrateFag, I meant it's a good thing you havent been on his channel, not his channel is good. I'm a diehard James fan. Do I get an apology?
