I must REALLY suck at this game. I never have more than 30 HP after King Press, and Ballos' first form wrecks me to the point I have to play it uber safe for the rest of the battle. It took me 10 minutes to beat this place, but like a million and a half tries. o o

Is the brick falling section a set pattern, or is it random each time? That I find to be the hardest part of the stage (Ballos being MUCH HARDER, clearly.)

I think your only big mistake that threw you behind (of the record, of course) was using your nemisis on Heavy Press.. glad you switched but you really shoulda had your missles ready, that and fixing the rest of the minor issues will add at least 11 seconds :D

@TheSteel107 I do that on purpose. If I just use missiles and only misssiles, I will have too few to fight Ballos with almost quaranteed. The record run uses the absolute minimum ammount of them when he kills Ballos' final form. If you look very closely at that video, he shoots the missiles at really precise intervals to do the maximum damage (no idea how that works). I've tried killing the last form with the same ammount but I just can't do it.

@TheSteel107 (continued in a new reply because out ot characters) What I always do is I start of killing Heavy Press with Nemesis and then finish it off with a few missiles. That record run is absolutely pristine state-of-art run (if it is legit), perfected in almost every way possible, and that is one area where I can't compete. As of right now I've put off speedrunning this game (couple years ago already), with my personal best around 2:27, which I doube I can ever beat.

How do you take out the final phase of Ballos so quickly with the Nemesis? Whenever I try to do that, it's not fast enough and I get killed by his orbiting balls. Maybe my fingers just aren't fast enough!

How the hell is there a run 16 seconds better than this? You pointed out a few mistakes, but none of them looked like they added more than a split second.

@KinataKnight General "fastness" and agility. I just pointed out the obvious and blatant mistakes. The 16 seconds faster time isn't confirmed as completely legit and in fact I'm quite sure it utilises turbo controller. Fastest time I know is about 10 seconds faster than this (available on youtube). My personal record was couple of years ago, something around 2:27. Currently the fastest save file I have says 2:29'6, I probably won't be able to get lower than that.

@MyWiiIsTooBig Nah, I always lose an exact ammount of life in the ballos battle, it's pretty carefully coreographed. I always try to use it just before the last battle, sometimes I use it before the heavy press even.

I finally broke the 4 minute threshold today (3:54 using spur).... yeah.... I don't think I'll be going for the final 3 minute hurdle. My rapid button pressing skills are a bit lacking so unless I semi-cheat and use a turbo controller, I'll probably never get there. The most aggravating part of the entire speedrun is that god damn second room. Fuck those blocks man. I'm *really* good at platforming but it seems like every time a WALL will drop down at least once! Oh, and fuck the butes too.

On unrelated news, my little brother thinks he is better at this level than I am because he beat it in 3 minutes with invincibility, unlimited ammo and unlimited booster cheats.

@crocz Easy Mode is a Wiiware thing. If you play it on the Wii it has a option to be Easy, Normal , or Hard, Hard being basically the same thing as a Minimum item run, there is only one HP boost in the game, and i believe its at the bottom tier of the 1st room of Hell. Easy mode does half damage from all sources and they may take less damage to die as well.

@crocz Easy Mode is featured on the Wii version; you take half damage, rounded down to the nearest integer. Enemy numbers and positions are still exactly the same as in what the Wii's version calls "Original" difficulty. Thus, the actual gameplay is no easier: you just take less damage when you do take a hit. Thus, to answer the question properly, the answer would technically be no, it wouldn't help a speedrun specifically, as you still have to fight off the same number of enemies.

I know it says something about the Booster versions before, but now if you examine it, it will say something along the lines of "I can turn back time if you wish. Give up? Yes/No" Hit yes, and you will be transported back to the moment after you left the building where you fought the Undead Core. You will have full health and missles. Now just try to reach the shack without getting hit by blocks. If you are hit, just try it again as many times as you like

You wanna know why the island stopped falling because Ballos was killed?

It's because since the core was destroyed, and the core is kind of attached to the walls and floating, it can't keep the island up anymore. Ballos is so fat that he weighs the whole island down. When he died, his crushing weight was no more so everyone lived. :D

Thank you very much. Thanks to this video, I learned the best way to make a speedrun, which motivated me to try and do this myself. I was able to do it in about 3:30, and don't think I could do any better, but I surely wouldn't have been able to do it if I hadn't watched this video.

Oh, and from my experience, it is possible to use the rocket launcher against the heavy press and still have just enough ammo for Ballos. You may want to try doing it.

@Evilguy951 Well it has been specualted whether the fastest time is legit. It is said to use turbo controller or something similar, and there's something disturbing about the movements to me as well, and also it has no sound. I'm not sure if it's confirmed as legit "oficially" now. Besides that this is the fastest time recorded. My fastest time is 2'28 or something, but there is no video on that, and probably never will be (and this comment is already too long)

@crocz Hey now, don't get too ahead of yourself here... This speedrun is amazing and I could never do anything like this, but don't elevate yourself so high to the point where you start doubting other sources of skilled play.

@kamajje It's not only me who is "doubting" but actually several people are. My only problem with that video is that there is no sound and the movements seem kinda too "smooth", but I'm definitely NOT saying it's fake, there are justa couple of factors that prevent me from saying it's 100 legit. But one thing (I believe) has been confirmed is that that run utilises a turbo controller so it's not completely legit in that sense anyway. Still if I were to declare it as fake or not I'd say its not.
