In the summer of 2007 and 2008 we conducted kite powered fishing expeditions using a traction kite. We used an outboard engine to motor out of the harbor and then deployed the kite. The engine was lifted and lines were set. The sky is the limit for the future of kitesailing.
The kite can be flown on all courses, even strait into the wind with the help of the engine. Fuel savings is possible on all downwind courses and reaching courses up to 45 degrees into the wind.
With the cost of fuel as high as it is, using wind power makes so much sense. Kite for Sail is truly an innovative leader in developing these systems and I know their work is going to revolutionize the way boats are powered.

@wildblue2 There seems to be almost no limit. Skysails offers a System with 160 m² for freight vessels and is planning to extend up to 600 m².

Looks good downwind but how does it go tacking close to the wind?
