David was photographed with a cigarette in his hand. I wonder if he wisely quit before his death in '72? Billboard's 47th #1 hit of the rock era. God bless! RIP, Dave. ALLLLVINNN!
"All I Want For Christmas Is My Two Front Teeth" (1949)
The Chipmunks were not cartoon characters until 1961. At the time of the release in 1958, they were only a name on a label until the following year, 1959, when they became comic book characters.
A #1 hit for The Chipmunks and David Seville in December 1958. It is the only Christmas song to hit #1. Afterwards, Billboard established a separate chart for Christmas hits. The Chipmunks were the first cartoon act to hit #1. 11 years later, another cartoon act would hit #1. Who were they? Stay tuned.
@Ne14Gr8Music You figured it out, huh. I watched The Archies as a child. They had cut-out records on the back of Sugar Smacks cereal boxes. I had Nursery Rhyme and Jingle Jangle. But they sort of "jumped the shark" with Archie's TV Funnies and U.S. of Archie.
"Alvin" and "Simon" were named alfer Liberty record executives Al Bennett & Si Warnoker, and "Theodore" for Bagdasarian's recording engineer, Ted Keep. Ross had no idea HOW successful "The Chipmunks" would become...
Cool, it's one of my favorite Christmas songs too! Glad you like it Tink. I think I might post the flip side of this one too, "Almost Good". It doesn't have the Chipmunks, but it's a good song.
Good stuff. I have the complete Chipmunks Christmus album LP. Unfortunately while the rest of the album is in spectacular-sounding wide stereo, this track on it is only in mono.
Is it the one with the dark blue background on Liberty? I've got it and the second one around here somewhere, but this is definitely my favorite track of David Seville's.
good

I wonder what the chipmunks will sound like when that 45 is played on a 33 rpm speed. LOL

@mlaura40s It's kind of funny actually. I might post one played at 16, 33, and 78 speed to show what it sounds like. Thanks for the idea. ha ha
