It's amazing when you think about how much thought goes into the casting of a 'lead actor' in a production like this. The child actors were ten times more important than any of the adult roles. It's like Goodfellas in reverse. The adults get (what seems like) ten minutes of screen time and then the kids take over the movie. Even funnier it went through them at different ages. If a best lead actor oscar nom was cast, who would it go to really?

I think you have to be brown to understand quite a few references.. especially in the begining.. it touches on a lot of things that are very real and plague the slums of India. Like corrupted policemen, dicks using children to roll in cash from begging in the streets, hurting these children so they can't escape/ will make more money. A lot of what's in the film is all too real for kids living in poverty there.. I think that's what a big part of the film is.

Oh and when the main character's mom gets killed.. there are a LOT of references that are deep. The main character's childhood was set in a time when there was a HUGE Muslim Vs. Hindu sentiment. A lot of Hindus in Pakistan were killed and vice versa. The main character's mom and neighbours are being killed there in India for being muslim. The little kid in blue holding his palm outwards? He's dressed as a Hindu diety in a divinly pose.. sorta mocking the Muslims I guess. Yea deep references.
