  • I'm sorry, but this disease looks pretty entertaining.

  • This is very interesting Tom and its great that you are willing to share a side of this terrible disease. I hope you are well and keep battling on mate.

  • You are so full of shit old man. Can the pseudoscience babble, and go do something productive like playing with your grandkids.

  • how did oyu get it

  • @agonei121 - My 7th cranial nerve was damaged by an attack of the herpes virus, and the nerve did not heal correctly, so we think there are some "loose wires" in that nerve, so to speak, that allow outside electrical energy to interfere with my neurological system. We think the synthetic materials of the chairs, since they are poor conductors, allow electrical fields to build up on the surface, and when I contact the surface, cause the involuntary spasms.

  • Tom what about talking on the phone or being close to and electronic device, my mom was recently diagnosed with Meige's Syndrome, talking on the cell phone causes her major facial spasms, she is been being treated with botox just to control it a little bit, but things are getting worse... I'm looking forward to hear from you, thanks. Leo

  • @leocubillos - sorry about the slow response. I have no experience where the energy from cell phones gives me problems, but certain things that I hold in my hand will cause a reaction, such as a metallic candy wrapper or certain pieces of metal, plastic, or vinyl. So one experiment would be to see if there is any difference in her reaction when the cell phone is on vs. when it is turned off, if the reaction is the same, then it isn't the energy from the phone causing the problem.

  • Tom, thanks for these insightful experiments. They are very instructive as to the causes of dystonia activation -- I'm not sure I'm using the right terminology, but you are providing insight that traditional medicine would almost certainly ignore. It is apparent that energy fields and frequencies are inducing your symptoms, which leads me to believe that a correction of the dis-ease must be somehow possible. You've shown light, sound, and etherial sources; I encourage you to explore colors.

  • lmfao

  • @Snaffle haha all these super long educated sounding comments and then you jump in with "lmfao" what a hero

  • How is this possible? sitting in different chairs and feeling the different materials and then getting a spasm

  • No, wth this is just ridiculous now. I can't believer people believe this. This is stupid as hell.

  • Don't take my comment the wrong way, but this is very interesting. Its kinda like a worm hole in space. Go through and you can appear, randomly, in any place, anywhere in the entire universe! Seems like random things cause random reactions.

  • hey my dad just had his meds adjusted and he did a 180, using cyclobenzaprine and methocarbamol, had most severist form of dystonia, jerky muscles and slurred speech, but it was the dopamine related kind, suffered for years until he got these two magical medications and now he walks and talks normal like it never happened, my heart goes out to anyone struggling with this, good luck and god bless! ! !

  • I have dystonia. I haven't noticed if different materials change my movements... but I just gotta say, love the last line... short and funny. Thanks for sharing your experiences.

  • That is pretty amazing.

  • Is this caused by llike brain nervves?

  • In my case, my 7th cranial nerve was damaged by an attack of the herpes virus. That caused Bell's Palsy, a paralysis of one side of the face. I had a seemingly full recovery, but when the nerve healed, some wires got crossed, since now every time I eat something, my right eye tears up. So the salivary gland and the tear duct are now connected when they shouldn't be.

We think maybe there is a loose wire or two that have made me susceptible to interference from the outside.

  • What would Go On With Holding Drinks And Different Glasses..

  • Good question. Glass is not a problem, and I can't recall any particular plastic cups that caused a reaction.

There are certain materials that if I hold them in my hand will cause a reaction. The metal foil wrappers of some candy or energy bars is one example. Holding a vinyl checkbook in my hand can shut my right eye down. I have come across a couple glossy magazine covers that cause my face to react if I am holding them as well.

Biggest problem is clothes, have to wear 100% cotton.

  • I haven't been to a neurologist in 11 years, but I think I would have a diagnosis of paroxysmal just because my condition changes dramatically from place to place and day to day (minute to minute for that matter).

I don't react to a piano, but an electric organ sets me off like crazy. But hearing an organ on my stereo or IPod causes no reaction.

So I guess if you are playing some kind of electric or electronic keyboard, it's certainly possible that energy being emitted is affecting you.

  • Could yu be like somewhat allergic to the material? If Yu Know What I Mean?

  • Medically speaking, it wouldn't be an "allergy" because that would require direct contact with the skin, and although I do have some limited contact with my hands and possibly part of the legs in this video, no direct skin contact is required for me to react.

Another example - I had a vinyl checkbook that would shut my right eye down if I put it in my back pocket. Technically not an allergy.

Traditionally, allergies are not thought of as a reaction to energy frequencies.

  • your videos are helpful for people who have dystonia. keep it up! tell us more. :)

  • ok thanks

  • Well, had I read your comments I would have seen that you've already proven that... LOL

  • I know nothing of this condition other than from watching your videos. I think you may be correct about the materials of the chairs. If your facial spasms are created from different frequencies of sounds and vibrations, then a material that enhances a frequency would cause those spasms as well. Again, I know nothing, but I thought I'd throw in my comment to see if it's something of any use to you.

  • Have you ever tried this anywhere else in your house? I'd be interested to see if the chairs produce the same effect regardless of where you are.

As a disclaimer, I know nothing of your condition outside of what I've picked up from watching your 3 videos. But I would guess that what determines the spasms is not the chairs themselves but how they interact with the frequency of the hum from your pool pump (and whatever else is around). I'd imagine you'd react differently elsewhere.

  • You are absolutely correct, in different locations there can be differences in the reaction. But the best chair is still the best chair, and the worst chair is still the worst.

One really odd thing that illustrates your point - I had a patio recliner that I accidentally discovered would decrease my eye spasms if it was on the pool patio with the pool light on (different house). But once I moved the chair off that slab around the pool, it didn't have the same effect when on other nearby slabs.

  • It looks like its something to do with the electrical currents going through the spine connecting to the brain. Hey tom, im kinda hoping you might respond personally because im curious. I dont know much about the disease but I saw this video online about some professional cheerleader having the condition after a swine flu shot. To me though it seems like she is completely faking it. It sorta looks like something I did when I was younger after I got shocked hehe. Sometimes im to curious.

  • I doubt that she's faking it, but I do doubt that she got the condition because of the flu shot.

Many Dystonia patients can walk backwards fine, but not forwards, and the reason is unknown, so that part of it isn't unusual. The symptoms disappearing when she runs is unusual.

In my case, we know that my 7th cranial nerve was damaged by the herpes virus and regrew incorrectly. So that is the root cause of my problems, a nerve with some wires crossed and/or loose wires.

  • This is a bizarre condition. I have to admit to only hearing of dystonia because of the cheerleader example. The strangest thing about that was that running alleviated her symptoms -seems that it;s a very idiosyncratic - any thoughts tom?

  • I've read of many Dystonia patients who can walk backwards fine but can't walk forwards. I can't think of another who said that running made their spasms better, so that is unusual.

What's difficult about Dystonia for both patients and doctors is that no 2 cases are exactly alike. Some people with eye spasms only have problems when talking, but others only have problems when listening. My condition changes dramatically from place to place, but my friend with cervical dystonia doesn't, weird!

  • Absolutely fascinating.

  • I have dystonia and my symptoms are bizarre. I had several food intolerances, also. I believe that one day there will be, hopefully, more of a connection between infection and allergic reactions and illnesses such as Dystonia in the future. Perhaps, you are allergic to a component in the chair. It's like finding a needle in a haystack...But, anything is possible. Good luck to you.

  • i need your help tom. i have a pt with dystonia who is a suicidal risk, so obviously there should be nothing in his room he could use for suicide. he has a chair in his room with wooden frame. however it is cushioned, and im not sure if the cover is leather or vinyl or some other material. any suggestions to help him minimize his dystonia (i think segmental) while following suicide precautions for his seating? also his bed?

  • oh i see

  • why is that?

  • We have conclusively proven to ourselves that my spasms are a reaction to electrical energy. If I go into a screen room (Faraday Cage), the spasms disappear.

We believe that the different chairs cause different reactions because electrical fields build up on the synthetic materials, and those small electric fields cause the reaction. Different synthetics apparently cause fields that are either different in strength or possibly different in frequency makeup to be present on one vs the other.

  • It would be cool if you could sit in the chairs without knowing what material it was.

  • Well if you can figure out how I can sit in a wood chair vs. a cushioned vinyl chair without knowing the difference, let me know!

I am not pretending that this is a scientific, double blind study that proves anything, it's just a simple demonstration of how I react differently to different chairs made of different materials.

What I need to do is get some place like the Underwriters Laboratory to do some tests and certify the results for me so there is more credibility to my observations.
