  • Where can I find the Mp3 of this!? Its not on Amazon or iTunes

  • wow, i love this.

    markus enochson

  • Beautiful

  • Brilliant. Sheer brilliant.

  • wheres the finished product? i would like to hear it lol

  • wonderful!!!!!

  • We were more like family. We sang together, worked together and played together. The love of music held us together like glue. We all sang for each other. No one considered him/herself a star. We were all good buddies who loved to sing together. What a blessing we were to each other.

  • Patti and Roberta are hilarious, but all of the ladies are class acts. For a music session, this sure does look like more of a family get-together, which isn't a bad thing at all. lol I love seeing vintage footage such as this, thanks for posting.

  • Many thanks for the more than kind words. I have been truly blessed in this life to have had the opportunity to work with so many talented folks. This is one of my favorite sessions. To be in the studio with the legendary Al Green was one of my career highlights. God moves through him with such energy and grace it is a joy to behold. I've always admired Deniece's talent and with Roberta Flack, Patti Austin and Melba Moore on backgrounds this was nothing short of spectacular. Be blessed.

  • I must share this gem. Thank you Deb McDuffie for this educational view of how things go in many studios and for your legendary and brilliant contributions to music. You put together the greatest talents here(that in itself is a monumental feat), and did your thing! This is nothing short of Magical Brilliance. I can't believe you'd even share this, but am so thankful for it. I am a great admirer of yours and every single person you got together for this! Unbelievable!

  • Man this about the best in the business, I have been listening to Al Green for most of my life and if you read this Deniece I am still in love with you.

Can't get enough of this video.

  • That's Deniece!!!! All the voices are beautiful! This was fantastic!

  • fantastic!!!! version

  • The band drowned them out I turned it off Early because I think the band was very rude. I had my speakers blasting and still they drowned Al green out and as for the others I don't even know them. I only listened for Al green and because I love this song and then this happens. I'm sorry but this is the worse version I've heard yet the band shouldn't have drowned them out like that. It was nice to see Al green interacting in real life like that but the performance was horrendous cuz of the band

  • @keepingitreal15 This IS "REAL"! This isn't the FINAL MIX! You have missed the glorious point here. A TREASURE ! LEGENDARY Deb McDuffie is offering you an educational view of the process most would never HAVE THE OPPORTUNITY TO SEE- NOTHING SHORT OF FANTASTIC! This not only is a marvelous example of how "sessions" went in L.A. and N.Y, but the "annointed" TALENTS ON THIS? McDuffie organized the"Best of the Best" on this one, and SHARED this gem with YOU and All of us. I Love the 4/4 time, too!

  • That's fantastic! Are you in high school? I am now teaching music in a high school. I'd love to hear your rendition. If you record it please send me an mp3.

    Blessings,

    Deborah McDuffie

  • can i just say that this is great. my teacher asked me to sing this song in february and i couldn't get into the song before and now i can. this is amazing and now i can play with the song and suit it to fit me.

  • Can you believe this! It's hard to describe to today's youngsters just how significant this video is, so many outstanding musicians and wonderful singers, playing and singing probably the most inspirational song of our generation. It's a thrill to know that Neicey, Patti, Roberta, Al and Melba are still making beautiful music!

  • Wow.. this is so great. and everybody's so young!! joec

  • Go On Neicey Sang that song gurrrrl ! Legends Al greene, Roberta Flack, and Patti Austin! They did this song in and out REAL MUSIC

  • DOES ANYONE KNOW ANOTHER VERSION WITH A MAN AND WOMAN.....THE MELODY IS NOT THE SAME AS THE TRADITIONAL WAYY...PLEASE I REALLY NEED TO FIND THIS..THANX

  • @luvfunnyflix The melody is exactly the same. This version is in 4/4 time as opposed to the original 3/4 time. I was very careful to maintain the integrity of the melody. There are many versions on the internet in the original 3/4 time.

  • @mcduffiedeb - It is perfect!

  • Thanks for the kind words. This was one of my most favorite sessions ever!

  • Wow. This is incredible on so many levels! Everyone's stellar, including my man Francisco Centeno on bass. Thank you thank you thank you for posting this star-studded peek into a world that doesn't exist anymore. RIP Yogi!

  • There are some incredible musicians in this video. The late great Yogi Horton, Luther's drummer and Dizzy Gillespie protogee Jon Faddis. Leon Pendarvis, Musical Director for Saturday Night Live is conductor/orchestrator. David Spinozza on lead guitar and so many more talented folks contributed to this once in a lifetime celebration of African American history.

  • The horn players are the same guys from Belushi & Ackroyd's BLUES BROTHERS BAND.

  • CD's will be given away free in late 2010 with any donation to Arts4Jax, Inc. a 501(c)3 youth arts foundation. I'll post here when it's available.

  • I like Melba's version but I have to agree that this is superior. A lot has to do with the production as the later version sounds artificial with all the processed instruments and here they use real instruments so that helps immensely. Niecy is just AWESOME!

Was this ever made available on CD?

  • Wow! This is way superior to Melba's later group version. I love this!

  • love this !!

  • Wow!....An example of fine Art!...Sooooo beautiful....thank you Miss McDuffie!!!

  • Simply incredible - looks like everyone had a lot of fun!

  • What a treat this was to watch! Niecy and Al and Patti, Roberta, Melba et al...enjoyed this immensly. Thanks for posting!

  • Thank you so much for posting this. I have always wanted to hear Al and Niecy sing together ~ I never knew they had.

Just imagine ~ an album in the making some three decades later ~ now wouldn't that be something. Who knows? May God be so willing and bring this into being.

  • @AwakeToTheMystery

Me too, that's why I brought them together. It was loads of fun!

  • Al Green is such a cutie.

  • Oh My God I never new about this I have let Melba Moore but I'm sure you no already! I love it. Oakland,CA here.
