  • Millie is absolutely adorable, the way she just has fun and doesn't care what happens.

  • so let me get this straight................

The original higher voice is suppose to be sung by Maria Friedman? and she was taken over by Lea Salonga becuz Maria's mic was broken?

    wow.........

    anyhow....... Lea was great!!!!

  • ahahah i just love this! ♥

  • Best rendition of this song EVER. Who cares if it's four singers instead of the scripted three? I love the rearranged opening.

  • what the hell is Ruthie wearing?

  • @brooklynbuglet Her Gotta Get A Gimmick costume

  • Ruthie Henshall is perfection.

  • Oh dear, poor Millie...Imaqine getting your dance moves that spectacularly wrong in front of lots of respected performers, and a huge audience that included the Queen. Hahahahaha!

Also, you have to feel for Maria. She's a great singer but her mic was just not working for her.

  • Millicent Martin is soooo funny xDDDD

  • i just LOVE this!

  • Comment removed

  • if you listen to millecent martin anywhere else she has a nice clear voice. she obviously altered her voice for comedic effect and that's why lea salonga gives her those looks to add to the comedy. why are people accusing lea of being unprofessional?!!

  • Does it really fn matter.....if she messed up at the end.... What is your point? I guess you never messed up before.... STFU and watch, listen and enjoy!!!

  • An unadulterated pleasure for the eye and ear alike!

  • maria friedman didn't get the dress code :)

  • love how lots of people are saying Lea shot that look out of spite, Clearly not!, she's a professional she wouldn't do that in front of an audience :')

anyway aside from that, they are all amazing

  • Even if she were to make a mistake, a good performer always makes her mistakes look intentional - like a little solo.

  • i just realized fantine and eponine were in this both

  • Ruthie is amazing!

  • My goodness this was all pro!

  • Thanks for posting this video!!!

There was only one boo-boo here, at the very end with the last big dance move. The rest are intentional and rehearsed.

  • Millicent Martin = Daphne Moon's mom

  • the right one ist the oldest and has the most obtrusive v-neck

  • I believe the argument between Lea Salonga and Millicent Martin is useless

scripted or not, i think they have put in a very good job and put on a good performance

and all of them have their greats and not-so-greats

what is most important is all of them had a portion of the light and not just one of them...

  • how could some people be so damn IGNORANT...the whole act was REHEARSED...ladies and gents...Please!!!! wtf!

    the performance was great!!!

  • Maybe it's just the top, but Ruthie seems really ripped.

  • Ruthie is still my fave brilliant every time

  • The original version was way better..aren't there only supposed to be 3 women performing this song??

  • There are in 'Company'. This a tribute to Cameron Mackintosh -- who is a huge Sondheim fan and produced many of his shows in England. All four women have, if my memory served, performed in Mackintosh production of Sondheim shows. (Julia Mackenzie also co-wrote the book of 'Putting It Together', and directed the original West End production.)

  • Wooooow :D

  • lea is at her element here...she stands out...what a voice too..

  • to all of you out there...there's no bitching here. they all did it on purpose..the look...the steps...everything. that's what makes it fun, to make it appear that they weren't expecting it to happen but of course its rehearsed. so for goodness sake. dont make an issue out of it. i say they're all great! awesome indeed.

  • fantine on the left, eponine 2nd from the right.

  • @ovitatirac hey i didn't notice that

and the narrator of joseph's coat 2nd from left

  • Awesome! :)

  • Love Sondheim's!

  • to my shame i have never heard of lea salonga - what's she been in?

  • She's been in loads of stuff.

Singing voice of Jasmine in Aladdin, and singing voice of Mulan, and Eponine and Fantine (on separate occasions, of course) in Les Miserables, among others.

    She's quite an actress.

  • As well as originating Kim in the West End production of Miss Saigon

  • Heh, yeah that too.

  • @PhantomDawg594 I even saw Lea in a movie calleda Courtain of Sequoias, with Jeff Daniels.

  • @cargo71 Redwood Curtain

  • Her first stage show was Miss Saigon, and she was brilliant in it! Have a look on Youtube for her audition for miss saigon. She's such a cutie!

  • the begining was messed up

  • I feel bad for Maria. Everyone else got solo parts...what about her??? Also, I love how Ruthie's costume looks like her one from Chicago with a longer skirt

  • she was supposed to but her mike blew so lea did it for her because she knew that her mike wasn't working.

  • Maria really should have had bras on. Lea is so adorabre ja Milly cracks me up every time :) Ruthie is a goddess, look at that body and legs!!! *drooling*

    Gotta love these ladies!

  • I LOVE IT!!- soooo light hearted and lovely!!

  • lea was singing the highest doo becouse she said she was late during rehearsal she flew all the way from manila and everybody agree that she should sing the highest doo coz they say shes the youngest sound corny but its the true.hahaha she missed the mulan premier becouse of this event.

  • This was ADORABLE! I love the girls energy in this song.

  • I'm sorry but that was all so obviously rehearsed!

  • well....... duh

  • this was scripted ladies and gentlemen.......lea told me........hahahahahaha

  • umm.. I can understand the "doo" in the end and the wrong moves that Millicent does, and being Lea I would have also given that look. However, she also does it at 1:02 and I think that it makes it a little too much int he same number...

I think that both of them have their wrongs in that number.

  • I think Millicent put in a great performance, it got laughs from the audience, Lea was fantastic in giving the comical "Dirty" look, and everyone makes mistakes in dancing. I think it was greatly done. I'm sure they laughed about it afterwards.

  • The outfits are..uhh 0.o

    But amazing performance! Ruthie rocks!

  • Maria Friedman is so gorgeous.

  • lol wot you lot on about? it's a musical performance, of course it's staged! lol i can't believe this is even an issue!

  • Me either. It's quite clearly scripted, *shrugs*. And gosh, they all sound lovely together. Great performance! A lot of fun. :)

  • perhaps anyone who still believe it wasn't staged is really just plain stupid.

  • lol it was scripted. i worked the event. chill.

  • I'm not defending what she did, but a lot of people on here think that bit was staged.

  • @lakme ..IT WAS STAGED!!!!

  • @lakme , i agree, i think it was all staged, and very well executed.

  • it's scripted. lea would never do that, or any other actor for that matter. at least not this obvious, and not in front of an audience not to mention james cameron.

  • *nods*, ITA. And Lea - all of them - again give a look at 2:20. It is clearly part of the performance and part of what makes it such fun. I thought they were flawless. :)

(Thanks a lot, lakme, for uploading this. It's great!)

  • james cameron? or cameron macintosh?

  • cameron macintosh

  • cameron macintosh.. hehe, sorry my bad..

  • @saphemyst .....or Cameron Mackintosh, as he's actually called :P

  • @saphemyst James Cameron? lol!

  • it is staged.

  • It's so BLOBV staged!

  • @egrant8283 ...That was a staged facial expression..how could you think otherwise? Geesh!

  • @egrant8283 you are an idiot... they are staged you moron

  • @egrant8283 it was staged men xD

  • I think all these girls are fabulus. (sorry i can't spell)

But i adore ruthie and think she is outstanding.

  • They made this song so fun to watch. I liked the little facial expressions and gestures...really funny. And what a cast!

  • Does no one else see the dirty look at 1:04? It is a great performance but you've got to admit: what a bitch!

  • i was always under the impression it was scripted.

  • I have to admit, if someone was singing and dancing that badly next to me, I'd probably be tempted to give them a dirty look. And Lea does recover very quickly...

  • No one who cant fulfill their roles, like cant sing and dance in Cameron's big show like this would be invited to perform. These are all his own personal favorite performers! And that lady's voice is very rocky, very good actually.

  • i'm almost positive that was scripted.

  • Look, if it wasn't scripted. She sang at the wrong part of the song. Lea was supposed to sing that high note at that moment and Millicent fucked up and later in the end she does the wrong dance move. Lea is in no way being a bitch for giving Millicent the comical dirty look, in fact, I believe it saved the moment if it indeed wasn't scripted. It was funny and Lea recovered like a champ.

  • That is the way the song was originally done in Side by Side - Millie was always "wrong-footed". Miss Salonga is just doing doing what it says in the script.

  • It's the way the song is done in Side By Side - Millie was always wrong-footed, just as Julia sings the wrong note in Gimmick. So they're just doing what's in the script.

  • just a fun song...thanks for posting

  • Lea Salonga is always fresh-looking.

  • That's really entertainment! I hope they show this program once more in german television to let them know how to do it. So to every "Superstar", "Supertalent", "Musicalshowstar" and whatever more, watch this - these are the real showstars!!!!

  • Amateurs? Yeah...sure...

  • feel very sorry for maria friedman, her mic isn't working :(

  • Yeah, why couldn't they give the faulty mic to Millicent Martin? :p

I love Ruthie Henshall's little wiggle when she finishes her solo. :) Sexy stuff.

  • the girl in the blue skirt looks like she's lip-synching.

  • "the one on the end is funny, the other seems to just pull weird facial expressions."

I laughed so hard when I read that. Millicent Martin is at the end, and the latter is Maria Friedman... who I love, but yes her expressions in this are kind of funny.

  • TheAntiPleb, I NEVER noticed Michael Ball's face at that moment until you mentioned it! That is too funny. I love him too!!

And Splongy I agree now, I figured out it's Ruthie. It's her voice and I recognize it now. :)

  • ruthie & lea are always great together.remember the 10th anniv concert of lesmiz, they did fantine & eponine respectively,& their voices blended perfectly 2gether in the duet on the last part of the show,it was 1 of the highlights then.

  • I love Michael Ball's face on Lea Salonga's first high note. Scratch that, I just love Michael Ball's face. And Michael Ball. Yum.

  • i love the song, and i love all of four of them, lea especially, but WHAT are ruthie and maria wearing?!!!

  • they are all great.. but i guess lea really steal the attention eep with the high notes Do

  • Oh I love them all. actually it doesn't matter who sings louder. If you really want to hear lea all you listen for is her voice same with those who only hear ruthie.

  • i really love this song... especially because ms. lea is in it...hehe...

  • Go Lea!

  • I couldn't even hear Maria

  • according to lea she was singing the highest note becouse she was late during the rehearsal she flew all the way from manila and she added that milly martin tells her that shes the only person who can sings the highest doo.

  • okay on 1:06 she looked back!!! what did she scare her lol!!!

  • it was scripted....

  • 2:20 LOL so funny! Love this song :D

  • if this is just a contest lea salonga is a sure winner.they maybe equal vocally but salonga's elegant moves in which she look likes she realy enjoy the song makes her a stand out, she's very cute!truely a world class performer!

  • Who's the one on the left? I love her big brassy trap!

  • The very far left is Ruthie Henshall.

  • To all those who hate Milly Martin, I love her. She always adds that extra little something into her performances.

    xx

  • lea solonga is so cute!

  • lea is simply the best...

  • This is one my favorite songs from this show!

  • i think in 1 part leas loudest and another ruthie is.

  • It has got to be ruthie, she sounds fab, and the boys must be liking that dress! lol

  • lea is the loudest.....great!!!!

  • actually, I've figured it out somewhat. It is Ruthie. :) She is amazing.

  • This is amazing. The vocals are incredible.

  • Ruthie Henshall's dress, DANG.

  • You should watch Hey! Mr Producer - "You Gotta Get A Gimmick" and see what she does with the dress~! Lolz!

  • Ok so based on what people are saying... it's either Ruthie or Lea. It's about half and half from y'all. Using logic, could it be Maria?

  • 100% its lea salonga..i can recognise that face and voice!

  • Wonderful song and performance!!

  • oh and nobody take this the wrong way because I think ruthie is absolutely lovely - but she just doesn't seem like a "dancer." her movements are quite awkward compared to lea's and maria's.

  • Coming from a dancer her movements are actually quite precise compared to everyone elses. I think they seem awkward because she has technique as before she became a singer she was a dancer first. example in the "knock knock" section look at how straight her legs are and how she's also using jazz hands, when the others aren't being as precise.

  • As well in the "Bobby baby Bobby bubi" section she comes in with a grace, her arms are almost like a wave coming in from the ocean. She's very specific. For further examples look up her "Sooner or later" as well as "More" From Putting it Together.

  • And Bang! From Putting it together, she dances cracking there.

  • As the others have said, it's because she's a dancer that she looks odd. She's so good she stands out and the others are clearly not dancers.

  • Question: towards the end there is one voice that stands out. This can be heard from 1:35-1:37 on the word "charms" and then 1:42-1:50 on that whole "oh, that sweet affection" bit. Whose voice is it? It's a very buoyant, strong sound.

  • I'm pretty sure it's Lea, but I'm not sure.

  • Nope it's Ruthie. She's got a very brassy voice. Lea's, I don't think is capable of that brass

  • It's Ruthie.

  • Definitely Ruthie. You can tell because of where the voice is placed and the amount of vibrato.

  • Oh... that was directed at the person asking whose voice could be hears, bright and brassy, during "charms" and another moment.

  • Yeah It's Ruthie

    I Love Her Voice!!!!

    She Is Just Amazing

  • Lea is amazing in this! so sweet and bubbly!

  • I don't have an issue with Millicent, but I just don't think she needed to be in this number. Maria, Lea, and Ruthie had a really good vocal harmony going, but Millicent's added voice kind of throws it off. Just saying.

Ruthie, however... Oh man. I love how when she gets really into it, her voice just eats everyone else's.

  • She tagged along from the previous section, which you can just see at the start of the song. It was a 'Side By Side By Sondheim' section, which she was in.

  • Could anyone tell me who's who from left to right?

  • Ruthie Henshall, Maria Friedman, Lea Salonga, Millicent Martin

  • thanks!

  • I see why this has 45,000+ views. It's astonishingly good.

  • millicent martin used to be the biggest name in broadway. your not going to expect a person who is in her 60's-70's to sing like a person who is in the 30's. I am a huge millicent martin fan myself, and have enjoyed that she has found a nitch in comedy, because she has good timing.

  • The woman next to Ruthie REALLY should have worn a bra...

  • lea is so cute....

  • Ruthie gives the best performance in this! Maybe at times you can't hear her vocally but if u watch her she looks so concentrated...and all the exagerated movement is just perfect!

  • They so could've done wivout Millicent Martin

  • I completely disagree...she makes it a lot more comic and adds something that could have actually been a bit dull and instead makes it more droll.

  • at :45 did she make a mistake?

  • Possibly...but the eccentricity just makes in wonderful! She's relatively old...I like the completely bonkers factor to her!!

  • Yeah, me too. I love bonkers. I love insane women 'cause they have no worries, just loads of fun. I love Milly: for me, she lightens the mood.

  • i love ruthie henshall, but lea's so bubbly i end up watchin her

  • I know Ruthie and Lea, who are the other two?, the one on the end is funny, the other seems to just pull weird facial expressions.

  • <3 Ruthie's dress

  • I LOVE LEA SALONGA!!!!!!!!

  • Wonderfull perform!

    Great!

    Frédérick, FRANCE, EUROPE.

  • Maria; please don't lip-synch to Lea

Millicent; please try to get up into the Tenor range

  • LOLL! beautiful!

  • Is Maria Friedman even SINGING? (I'm talking 1:12-1:16)

  • yeah i was wondering that too... maybe there was a mike problem? or maybe she was just absentmindedly mouthing the words along with Lea. sometimes people do that when they get really into the song. just a few theories...

  • Yeah, it was probably her mic.

  • I can hear Maria more than I can hear Lea at 1:12-1:16 so think her mic is definatly on...

  • does anyone else notice that Lea stares at that one lady's solo at around 1:03
