I just love this movie! It's so much like real community theatre. The "music" people & the "theatre" are always not quite on the same page, not to mention adding "dance" people to all of it!
One party NEVER wants to use actors that the other party always casts, no matter how good they are (though admittedly the "Lunts" aren't that good) There's always a person no one ever considered who winds up stealing the show & no matter how bad it is its almost always fun to watch!
Catherine's character in this movie, always has the characters' bangs sprayed straight up - even when she wants to go to Mars and in the old west segment. Love it.
Ok, so this may be a RIDICULOUS question. I know the song (frighteningly enough), but is this an actual play that the Albertsons are re-inacting?? What I wouldn't give to find it, just to make their attempts all the worse...
I think Bob Balaban as Lloyd steals this scene without saying a word. When Corky looks at him with that smile and that little nod, the way Lloyd looks at him for just a beat too long is priceless. You can tell he sees the Albertson's for the talentless hacks they are . . .
Christopher Guest is a genius...these two, it goes without saying...Brilliant!

They kind of cut out the best part where she's crying on the way out of the room. Heh. Brilliant film.

Their actor's mime secret handshake at 0:01 sets up the scene perfectly... laughter and hilarity ensues!

:50 Willard's messing up the rhythm is brilliant beyond words. And the pianist caught him.

I love the way Catherine O'Hara quietly mouths Fred Willard's lines, as if it helps her remember her own lines. Pure genius.

@jlessenburg They said in the commentary that it was basically a coffee commercial that inspired them.

It's when they break it down with the finger-clicking that gets me every time.
Brilliant scene from an utterly brilliant film.
Great video, parrothead.. Well played.
