I've always thought that Chester Thompson and Billy Cobham have very similar styles - the way they tune their drums - wide open resonant toms, tight snare - and very tight funky grooves.

This is a GREAT clip that shows how great a drummer Chester is - he can play ANY style. One of my faves!!

I've experimented with seat height & there's no way I'd sit at this angle but it works for some. Chester is a great technician but also gets great depth & feel. Take heed, Dave 'drum machine' Weckl & his kind!

I had the chance to see Chester live many years a go at a drum clinic. Three drummers and one musician! Chester is a musician, not just a drummer. One of the finest I've ever seen.
