Folks, its not hard for him. Its hard for you. I couldn't beat him in a head cutting competition, but there is nothing he plays or for that matter what any rock guitarist plays, that I can't play. This not jazz. If you take the time to learn and put in the years of practice - now THAT is what is hard - you can play anything you want. I am here still at it 40 years later.
On the other hand, jazz requires a very differnt kind of mind.
@michaeljamsmith You make it sound like Kirk is all technique and no emotion, no creativity. Surely anyone who puts in the time to practice his solos would be able to replicate them. But this is his music.. it's his own mind and creativy being expressed on that fretboard.
@Theblob516 Everyone who lives and breaths has emotion and creativity. It is part of being human. You are hung up on the "Yngwie syndrome." The most emotive and creartive person on the planet sounds like shit if he has no technique. BB and Albert King both had incredible technique. Besides, this solo isn't about that, This solo is about shredding. Kirk would be the first to tell you that.
I neeeeed to learn how to do that crazy crazy ass shit where he plays with one hand?!?!!! its like hes offering his insane licks up to the heavens lol.

Its not really that hard. Its all about muscle memory and practice. hammer ons and pull offs. If anything that there is no pick involved makes it easier than if it were some insane fast shit that needed severely precise picking too.
nothing is hard, only unfamiliar, but that technique is not only very demanding but also very unique and original, its like he is offering his guitar to the audience.
Yea, its a lot of work to just do that stuff when you have the guitar cradled against your chest, to do it with your wrist at an odd angle IS hard. But showmanship is as important when you're live.
It's not that hard? Listen to the run he's playing. Please post a video of you doing the same run even with a pick. It's very hard to play that harmer-on pull-off sequence that fast, that cleanly, and with one hand. He's not just playing on one string or pulling open strings. Please, "it's not that hard".
@jmaster1972 Pay me and I will. Look I love this guy. He is baddass. But you are confused as to what is difficult and what is not. If Kirk or Vai would pick up an acoustic, it would not sound like that. If I pull out my little Line 6 and put it on Insane, I can hammer complex 32nd note runs for days. Picking each note a la Steve Morse in infinitely more difficult. Need to see me play? use this youtube id: m4kg_CPqNv0
@phildo465 As a guiarist of 40 years, let me tell you something. The "tricks" are the easiest thing. Learn the theory and the technique. What is he is doing is all hammer-ons and pulloffs. You need good sustain from either compression or overdrive.
He just takes over, a master

This would be even greater if the singer would keep quiet for 2 seconds while Kirk played
