  • You do realize that Sparta wasn't free it was militant...

  • is it me.....or did the spartans not lose this battle? ......might wanaa re do this video budy

  • 7000 paysans vs 300 soldiers !

  • hmmmm... needs some more peasants!

  • 這是什麼遊戲啊?

    :))))))

  • OMG try (Alexander total wAR) your noob

  • Peasents !!!?

  • Comment removed

  • OMG PEASANTS.

  • how i can make them change the weapon from spearto sword?

  • u know if it wernt for the athenian navy at thermopyae the 7000 greeks would die in a flash when the athenians held off the 1000 strong persian navy against the 200 strong greek navy in the artamesan straight(forgive me i dot how to spell that word)

  • Comment removed

  • @McKunikoS All those nations you called where part of the Persian Empire so they where considered as Persians and not as Egyptians or Indians, Greeks did not fight on the side of the Persians, Maybe Thracians or Macedonians but not Greeks. The Greeks sended a total of 7,400 man but the ancient sources about this say all other numbers also about the Persian invasion forces so thats a bit unclear, i believe it where 7,400 man.

Anyways it was a glorious battle for the Greeks.

  • @TheFreshEC They were dressed in the traditional way of their regions and formed indepdent units of the Persian army. Macedonians and Thracians were greek tribes that's why i mentioned them even today both places are part of Greece (unless you believe the FYROM propaganda) and there were also troops from several greek islands in the persian army (mostly navy troops of course). I agree with all the rest ;-)

  • why did you use Numidia and not Parthia??????????

  • the spartans are probably thinking "aw crap...we should've stayed home" xD

  • sorry my bad english ... greeks arent realy good at english xD

  • Athens had the largest fleet of all ancient greece ... athens ruled supreme ! they builed the Pathenon with the money of the other greek towns !! the prof that Athens was supreme .... spartans were brave and all (and I speek as greek that I realy am) ... but athens was far more superior and lasted all the wars ... and now 2 million people live in athens ... if you go to sparta you will find a population of 30 000 people .. farmers and that type of people ... athens was the true power of hellada

  • @SlipknotPainface in ancient times, sparta powned athens in the pelopenesian war. How the cities are today is irrelevent as Sparta was never a large city to begin with

  • @SlyDessertFox yes of courese ... but athens was the center os all the greek domains ... and knowlege .

and there army may had been made up out of farmers and blacksmiths and merchants etc but the thruth is that they defeated not only the spartans but the persians to ... so its relative that you say that sparta dominated the greek world because it truly didnt and that i think you must admit ...

  • @SlipknotPainface First of all I said Sparta destroyed Athens in the peolopenisian war. I never said that Sparta dominated the Greek world. I even said that Sparta was a small city to begin with. The Spartans virtually annihilated Athens at one point. I understand the Spartans had virtually no culture other than their military and that the other Greek city states like the Athenians, the Persians would have crushed the Greeks if it were not for those brave spartan warriors at Thermopylae.

  • I love it when some noob tried using spartans online.. there all like SPARTA!! and im like MONGOL!! and there like SPAAHHHHGHGHGHH!!... and im like FLAMING PIGS!!

  • fail! the Persians had heavy infantry and the greeks had some other hoplites too and it is Phartia not numidia

  • fail! the Persians had heavy infantry and the greeks had some other hoplites too

  • no offense but i hate it when someone buys R:TW and puts like full/max upgraded spartans against millions of peasants or cavalry, and usually puts them by a bridge and sit and watch them pwn some peasants like a retard.

jeez, i'd like to see these "strong" hoplites perform against praetorians

  • @dividednation44 or how bout some Urban Cohort fully upgraded ????

  • @dividednation44 they actully beat most of them

  • Maybe it´s not historically accurate, but it was entertaining and had great music.

  • Sad...

  • This is silent hunter music :)

  • Lol, I love it when you chase Spartans after enemy units and they literally step right over them

  • Farmer vs REALLY COOL SOLDIERS ? who win?

  • THIS IS SPARTA!

  • Pure Shit. Tha ain't Thermopylae, and Greece was divided. Where are the Pairs slaves? The 300 spartan soldiers that stayed fought with the Athenians, and when they retread they stayed back. They didn't fought the whole goddam battle alone! Also, they had an equal nunber of slaves in the back of their small army, throwing javelins at the Persians and assisting their masters. Again, this is SHIT

  • @mtjpb001

sorry but Spartans DIDN'T fought with the athenians, but with their 5000 greek allies.(Athenians were

fighting persians in a naval battle at the Aegean)

The greeks had no slaves in the rear, because only FREE men were allowed in the army.

  • @mtjpb001

sorry but Spartans DIDN'T fought with the athenians, but with their 5000 greek allies., and after some troops retreated there were not only the 300 but 400 thebans and 700 thespians.(Athenians were

fighting persians in a naval battle at the Aegean).

The greeks had no slaves in the rear, because only FREE men were allowed in the army.

  • @RTotalwar2011 Actually they were around 900 helots that followed the Spartans to Thermopylae, even if they didn't participate in the battle.

You are right about the Athenians not participating though, there is a lot of false information in the other comments of this video.

  • @panarkas true

  • History.....in August 480.bc it has been shown there was just over 7,500 greek troops around 7,200 Hoplite Athenians heavily armored with spears 18 feet long/ and the 300 Spartans with the dory spear only 6 to 9 feet long / a total around 7,500 vs around 250,000.Athens and Sparta hate each other but stand and fight together against this insane number of slaves however it was the 200 Athenians ships defended against 1000 ships at Artemesium that made it possible for the Greeks to make the stand

  • @Armylady74 yup yup ive been saying the same thing but calling them arcanians dont know why lol athenians thats the one. who were the other greeks that let everybody down by not guarding the pass round the back of the spartan/athenian force? cant remember their nam either

  • @kreeperrock What's an arcanian? lol. We are called Arcadians dude and we sent at least 2000 men to the battle of Thermopylae, where Athenians did not participate at all. The other Greeks were from areas of Corinth, Argolis and central Greece. I see a lot of misinformation is spread in the West, it's just not right to give all the glory to the 300 Spartans.

  • @panarkas actually only sent 1000 men, either way you are right about the credit being only given to spartans

  • @bonehead0816 I know that in the references you can find in English on the internet, the men from Mantinea, Tegea and Orchomenos are mentioned separately from the other Arcadians that were indeed around 1000. However Mantinea, Tegea and Orchomenos are also areas of Arcadia.

  • @panarkas this is true, although still only 1000 true arcadians, as even though those men were from around arcadia they still were their own people, but either way, the point is there were lots of men fighting, all credit cant go to the spartans

  • @bonehead0816 True. Another thing we should underline is that the Athenians were the ones with the biggest contribution in the Greek - Persian Wars. All this hype about Sparta gives half-taught people the wrong impression that the Spartans were the ones who beat the Persians and saved Greece.

  • @panarkas this is true, and also being there were some 30 city states allied with each other at one point, you cant give credit to just a few, and as some had different roles, such as spartans being almost all ground troops, and other cities having large naval power

  • @Armylady74 They were no Athenians in the battle of Thermopylae. I don't know where you did hear this, but it is not true.

  • you dont no how to play man thoes are week peps

    (farmers)

  • You took this game way to seriously.

  • cool i love it

  • what game is this

  • 8:18 is funny

  • THATS CRAP DUDE THOSE ARE NUMIDIANS

  • where are all those fucking persian archers and where are 7000 greeks and 300000 persians?

  • @drogostderoje1

rome total war cant support 307000 soldiers in a battle

  • @drogostderoje1 7000 greeks in thermopylae??

  • @IMBACHABRI yes of course. do you really believe there were only 300?

  • so gay, everyone is making theese videos against Peasants, fyi, the Spartans (The greeks where over 300), but hey they lost, that shit later on until they rage with tha fleet

  • they are noobmidians

  • Pheasants against soldiers...very brave

  • hjgy

  • Unfortunately, physics91, your battle is based on dramatized movies and fictional accounts. There are multiple inaccuracies with your battle, but that said, thanks for putting the effort in to post this!

  • i hate things like this. i really do. I'm a history professor. and i like stategy games. and i like rome total war too. that being said....OPEN A HISTORY BOOK PEOPLE the spartans WERE NOT ALONE in the battle of Thermopylae, they FORCED OVER 13000 MORE GREEKS TO JOIN THEM IN BATTLE, the acadians were the next city state over, mind you the most of them ran away after the passage had been found, but needless to say they were far from alone (4000) was the fina troop count BUT HEY lets look at 300

  • @sasquatchismyfather also, the style of the spartans are off too, during the era when thermopylae happened they were entirely different. including the weponry, they used shorter spears(which name escapes me) and uniforms and helmets were different.

-<to be fair he could have used a mod.

  • @sasquatchismyfather well,by the way they had onlt 7000 aditionals,so...and anyway to hold the back of the pass leonidas put 1000 thesbians but they ran to they're near by city because they thought the persians were going to attack their city instead of the pass.

  • need a better running pc hehe

  • Greeks were the best warriors the world has ever seen!!!

  • I think it's really great that you are learning about history my friend. I'd like to suggest a little more research in the future and maybe even some classes in Western Civ or Ancient History so you don't have so many people picking apart your innacuracies.

Best of luck you, friend, I applaud your interest!

    :)

  • peasents lol nothing like thermoplae but still sweet

  • Herodotus says the Hellenes (Spartans, Thebans, helots et al) advanced toward the Persians in the final battle. They didn't passively wait for the persians but decided to die taking the fight to the enemy. I have never seen this depicted in any film or recreation but it should be.

  • Best way to stimulate a narrow front map is to use a map with a single bridge for crossing... and you may want to use hordes of Eastern Spearmen as well. They re just as horrible but the shields makes them look tougher.

  • Numidians?

    wtf?

  • peasants and a few hillmen? rly?

  • all pesants xD and no cavalary

  • all pesants xD

  • Actually

The Number of Persians (Herodotus Count) 2.6 Million

    Modern Scholars - 70 000 - 800 000 persians

    and 300 spartans + other greeks = 7,000

    7,000 vs 2.6/ 70k-800k

  • armendoza i know what you meen but there is no map like thermopylae on the game usless you download a mod pack

  • the greek wasn't the only one left... Forgot the romans eh? The persian had taken all eastern countries, but greece kept them back at the mountain passage

  • try it a the nile bridge

  • nice try , but this is wrong in so many ways . And here the '' Spartans '' are fighting numidians , and they are only fighting peasants and persian infanatry , if you are going to make a vid , please try to make it right ...

  • Comment removed

  • @P0difocusin atleast, he is doin something, compared 2 u, ur just commenting, bad things, make ur own vid, and see if u can make it better, then what he did

  • @PLZ400 i tried to make a video on a bride but the movei maker hates me

  • Oh! i like it nice dude

  • This is so fake. The Greeks were standing in the way of the Persians getting control of Medditeranean trade.

  • rome total war

  • Spartans `the finest soldiers the world has ever known...

  • 01:52 im sure they were thinking something like ''fuck!!''

  • este video muy casperiano

  • este video es muy casperiano

  • That Spears are too hugeman

  • i've always thought that thermopylae/the hot gates should have been a map on RTW, how was thermopylae not included as a historical battle? :/

  • @bustamove1415 9i know its so annoying, but lets face it, a battle where all you do is watch?

  • Put the music of 300 to victory I believe(create) q it(he,she) is called q this one very buna and fits with the situation

  • yeah i can also put good infantry against the worst infantry :S

  • this was less accurate than the movie 300 itself!!! how could you not get one part of it right, Dacians vs Spatans!!! WTF man

  • lol you are just playing rome total war and put some of the best infantry in the game against the worst

  • KOOL VIDEO!!!

    Thanks for sharing!

    Saludos from MACHU PICCHU PERU!

  • the spartans are the best soldiers every created from ther childhood spartans had to learn only to fight never to surrender

  • All Greeks whatver era pay Tribute to King Leonidas.

    Other Kings would run away...

King Leonidas, The united Greek Armies HAIL you!!!

  • Cool effort.

Now, not trying to put you down, but the battlefield is nothing like the Thermopylae.

The real Thermopylae is a narrow coastal passage next to very rocky mountains.

  • @armendoza Correct, not only that, but the spears in this vid are not Spartan spears but Macedonian "sarissa" , the Spartan phalanx used short spears, not the ones depicted here. These were used in Alexanders Phalanx.

  • @armendoza Yeah, listen to Armendoza, he's correct. The length between the sea and the mountains was 100m, there were 5 rows, 60 spartans each. But with them, there were more Greeks -they left when the Persians discovered the passage that led behind the Greek lines only the Spartans stayed, Thespians as well.

  • @armendoza Effort... he made a little singeplayer game, and wrote some text.... muuuch effort...

  • @armendoza this game doesn't have a map like that, the video maker probably knew that

  • @armendoza yeah lol, it was far too easy to get flanked here. But nice vid anyways, I've always wanted to recreate this battle...might buy the game just to do it! lol

  • @armendoza well there isnt a map anything like thermopylae in the game unfortunately

  • @armendoza its more like thermopylae than what you say ;) What you say, applies for 2,500 years ago.Now the "narrow passage" is like 2-5km

  • you could've used the parthians you know, numidians were nothing like parthians

  • noob fag

  • Who would win in a fight between Lu Bu and Leonidas???

  • love the backing track at 0:30

  • Yeah I made one with about 300 spartans versus like 20,000 persians... I fucking won.

  • 1:29 Instant morale buster xD

  • the Greek was not a empire...

  • @rennekooo It became an empire under Alexander's reign. Before that, it was a collection of colonies throughout the meditteranean and black sea region.

  • @rennekooo they were,

alexanders empire was also called the greek empire

  • @rennekooo yes it was with proud macedonias (alexander the great) and proud themistokles and leonidas and axilis and odissius and agamemnon ans more important people ......they hold an empire.....

  • Hehe firstly its one big screwup Spartans didn't use Macedonian style Phlanax but Greek style one ;) short speer's heavier armor no pikelike Sarissa's Second there ware 300 Spartans and 100 thousand of Persian (and alied) or more troops and Third Thermopylae is narrow mountainlike passage not plain ;) rest is perfectly accurate :D And the end-song is Now We Are Free by Lisa Gerrard composed by Hans Zimmer for Soundtrack to Gladiator ;)

  • @kissmyassyoufucks

The problem is that rtw is not totaly corect with fighting style, what you see there is the basic falanx all hoplite types use in rtw,

  • Yah i know ;) which is quite funny becous Greek hoplite didn't use this formation until after the Greek states were defeated by Alexander the Great, thats why i use Europa Barbarorum mod for plying RTW ;) And btw yes i know there were more Greek troops then just Spartans at Thermopylae but according to ancient historians they were all dead by the last day of battle when only Spartans still stand.

  • Actually, according to my University professor, the 300 Spartans ordered the 1500 Greeks to return once the hidden path was told to the Persians. The 1500 Greeks fled while the 300 Spartans stayed to fight. Spartans do not retreat until later.

  • Yupp i agree ;) much more probable than all of them dieing ;) But from what i know Spartans didn't retreated (maybe and probably the last few tried to run ;) but lest not spoil the legend ;)

  • @Headinsling

read above comment. There were 7,300-7,500 Greeks

  • don't forget that the 300 Spartans also had about 1500 regular Greek allies.

  • Actually the Spartans had 7,000 Greeks with them

  • According 2 the 2nd Year University Ancient History course I'm taking, there was 1500

  • then you either misunderstood, or it was mistated...or the person making the statement was wrong. All historical sources agree that there were over 7,000 Greeks at Thermopylae. I was a history major at UCLA. Accorrding to sources, there were over 7,000 Greeks collected from a host of cities. There were that many Greeks killed (at least.

Check out Thermopylae, the battle for the west by Bradford.

  • There were only 1,500 other greek hoplites, they were retreated after Leonidas found out about the persians knowing the flanking route, about 500 of them stayed behind though.

  • @Exilninja

No, there were 7,300 Greek Hoplites, Read the history instead of making up your own number. Some 2,000 were killed total, the rest ran off when Leonidas gave them the ok to.

  • Dont say greeks in your statement because at the time all of greece was city states not a country Sparta Athens and many others

  • they were GREEKS. They weren't Papuans or Zulus or Vikings were they? They were GREEKS

  • @shitonMOHAMMAD

    Right u r!

Being in a city state status doesn't negate the fact that they were all GREEKS!

  • "To avoid unnessicary casulties,Leonadas sent the rest of the greek army home, the only ones left, were the three hundred brave spartan warriors from Sparta"

  • not so. There wree the Spartans and there were other Greeks as well, a total of 2,300. Anyway why are you so lazy? Do some research man, it's writtne in history books, all you have to do is read it!

  • @Headinsling

they had 7,000 Greek allies total

  • wats the name of the song at the end ?

  • lol, next time put some more good units on the field i could have won this battle even when i was at sleep.

But its a nice video 3/5

  • cool

  • this is definantly the Marathon battle not the Thermopylae... still pretty intence though :P

  • the persian look more like parthians, so you could use hillmen

  • they where brave those spartans..Just bad that they got slaughtered..But that's what happens when you have 1300 men against about a million..

  • bit of an exaggeration there

  • enemy forces are all mosly peasant units, what a joke,it was set up for the phalanx to win, what utter b.s!

  • lol she is a girl hahahaha not a boy u idiot

  • Omg... Yahoo answers?? That's answers from people like my mom or my house cleaner going on this website and giving whatever answer they can come up with..

Look up the definition or "RELIABLE SOURCE" please

  • And c) at the time of the Spartans, there was not ONE single military unit in the world back then, better organized than the spartans.

The greek phalanx was considered the best and most disciplined infantry formantion until perhaps the Roman times.

    Let alone the Spartan phalanx

  • rofl its called fiction kid get a life, noone cares if you've read ancients texts in greek because i highly doubt u have

  • Unlike you guys, we do them in school, while you watch them in movies taken from comics.

It's fine to be a fanboy of a movie but when it comes to actual history, that just doesnt cut it.

We werent talking about fiction here. We werent talking about the movie, but for what ACTUALLY happened. That makes you kinda off-topic dont you think?

  • Lol a) you're ignorant. I didnt get any info from the movie. I actually hate the movie. Unlike you, i've read the actual ancient texts of the ones who wrote about the battles. Not typed in"wiki".

I told you, there are many more sources about the Thebans. They are even mentioned in Wikipedia.

Apparently you're the one that has to research a bit more.

    b) Stop watching too much anime. it's messing with your brain. "Technology".. let me guess. Scud missiles?

Art of war.. wow.. a book.

  • pes ta re kaitoula. kaitoula is absolutely right

  • The Thebans part is arguable. Even with a source like Wiki, you can see key words like "probably" and "perhaps". There are different sources about them. Others say that some stayed, others say that they fled and others say that they didnt die with the spartans and the thespians but surrended in the end.

You should pick your sources more carefuly. Anyone can read wiki but dont believe that you know it all just because you read it there.

  • And if Zeus had fought with the spartans they would have conquered Mars.

Saying If they fought there and if that had happened is retarded. No1 knows what would have happened.

If you asked someone before the Persians wars, he'd tell you "if the Greeks fight the Persians, they'll get slaughtered"

And look what happened ;) Assuming stuff is childish

  • i love you!

  • What im saying i got from the actual history which i happened to know long before you watch the film since it's my country's history.

What part of that exactly is a myth?

  • You know why they stayed alive for so long God keeped them alive

  • It wasn't just 300 spartans. That is a myth. When the Greeks retreated and left the Spartans, 1,000 Thesbians stayed behind to fight alongside the Spartans. But they all died. And at 1:20--were those the Immortals? The setting was also inacccurate. The only had 200 yards of fighting space, and the aegean sea was right next to them--many fell off into the water and drowned. And then next to the water they were surrounded by mountains. It was a narrow pass, not an open plain.

  • Some research before posting a comment, would be appreciated.

When the other allies retreated there were only 300 spartans and 700 Thespians left behind.

The Thebans had left earlier. Most of them fled when the Persians were about to syrround the allies.

The 300 Spartans isnt a myth. It's just sad that the 700 Thespians that also stood their ground and died are not remembered as well.

  • ? I got that straight off wikipedia and my history book...

And who said the 300 spartans is a myth? I said "It wasn't *******JUST********** 300 Spartans. The Thesbians stayed behind with the Spartans. The maker of this video just showed the spartans thank you very much.

  • you should have had a different song at the beginning

  • what's the song at 0:27?

  • those are numidian units try rome total war: Alexander

  • this is the most inaccurate thing ever! they fought in the pass of thermopylae which is a tiny passage through the mountains. that's why the spartan falanx kept the persians at bay for 3 days while other greeks gathered their forces.

  • They also had about 5000 other greeks with them. :\

  • actually at the start it was much less, but the other greeks assembled to form a force of about 7000. i'm doin this in classics.

  • this sucks!

  • different cannon rock

  • lul how is this the battle of thermopoly when it is on a open field,.

  • Amen

  • How do you get so many of them?

  • the 300 spartan is the best soldier of king Leonidas

  • Numidians?

  • OMG almost started to cry when that Gladiator music came and the last red one died.

  • Sparta declined due to her political inflexibility. That's all.Sparta was not an empire.Sparta was an idea,a way of life,a philosofy of valor and virtue.A legend. That is why her glory is immortal.......

  • Indeed, Sparta's glorytime with its ruling full and still perfect would be about 700 till 460 Bc.

  • it is not fair to compare spartans with romans.a single legion numbered 6000 men while the whole male spartan population(the citizens-hoplites) never surpassed the 9000 individuals,at the greatest days of the city...In their greatest defeat in Cannae Romans lost almost 80000 men in a day, against an army half their size.and defeats had many.Sparta suffered one single defeat in her history in Leuctra...400 dead Spartan equals(when the number of the citizens was reduced to 3000 men...)
