What people have to remember is that the voice changes with age. Someone in their mid 60s won't be able to sing like they did in their 20s. Barbara Streisand can't, neither can Aretha Franklin, so don't be so harsh on Liza.

@CenturianRule Substance abuse isn't necessarily the cause of the demise of her voice. She 's a belter, and that takes a toll on the voice. In the 90s (I believe) she had to have surgery on her vocal chords (the same surgery that ruined Julie Andrews' voice. Liza fared better.)

And the classics are wonderful, yes, but that doesn't make it better than Liza Minnelli because it's a completely different genre. I mean, if you compared opera to rap, opera fans would say that rap is terrible (generalizing, though), and vice versa. As for fame, fame has little to do with talent. Metro Station is a famous group nowadays, but they're terrible.

@CenturianRule You're right when it comes to live performances - she hasn't got the stamina any more. I liked how she sounded on her last album (2009) though. But I agree, singers like Shirley Bassey have a much better preserved voice.

As you said, as long as people have fun at her concerts, that's great for everybody. ^_^

I can name on one hand singers who have pipes as powerful as hers! Our dear Liza is in an elite group of singers. (I know, she's a great dancer too; but damn the range and power in her voice is astonishing!!) But, it's not just her powerful voice, it's her range! She was born to perform.
