Are u kidding me are you really training to dunk your training is week and too dependent on lifting weights first off wow my little brother jumps higher than you you look about 30 and you could never dunk ha. Its your training killing you first off who does what you ritzy suburban people call plyometrics on concrete that's real smart also you don't jump rope or stretch afterwards all my friends started dunking on 7th and 8th grade come on bro
How is the dunking coming along? Looks like you need some more base strength. Try decreasing the plyos for a bit and work on getting your squat up. After some gains, cycle back the plyos.
If I can tel you something, stretch a lot !!! i 'm a tennis man, 16 years old and 170cm and i can grab the rim all day. I stretch about 1 hour aday. This is an important part of jumping or dunking. I like your motivation. Hope for you that you'll dunk one day. Keep your good work. see ya man
Dude, I'm inspired I'm 35yo and have been doing VJB 5 weeks. My goal is to simply grab rim with both hands since I'm only 5'9". I notice you seem hurt a lot in your videos, I got to believe you should be focusing on flexibility YOGA or something before jumping around a billion times.
5'9 is very do-able. Im 5'11 and dunking without any training and I have a brother who is 5'9 and he can get the rim two handed. But then again we are both still in highschool so age can be a factor
im about 6 foot 1 and can dunk, i have like a 29-33 inch vert, ur close dont give up..from watching u dunk, it looks like ur just not coming in with enough speed and explosivness. when you jump it looks slow. the basics of jumping say that you have to transfer as much forward momentum into upwards momentum, so try running faster into the jump
if u jumped off wood floors instead of concrete and asphalt ur knees wudnt get hurt (as much anyways) and ud probably get a couple extra inches too...PLEASE CONTINUE THE DUNK QUEST do it for ur wife and kid man
If you practis or train your legs so you have to work on your back arms hest to. ther are very easy ways to train thoes types of muscules. Your back train it in thoes days when you rest. find thoes on iternet. And masage... tell yopur wife to do it. My wife is helping me this way 2 times a week
ok so you did vjb? how many gain did you get off that?
and if you wanna get better resluts, DONT DO PLYOS ON HARD FLOOR yet YOUR OFF STAIRS lol you need to do it on sand or grass or get a yoga matt atleast, wooden floor but concret no, but i could use advice from you, like when u go off two feet i ee u jumps stop , does that help or kill momentum?
dude wut ur doing is u are over training wayyyyyy too much, alright. u have done so much high intensity training over the course of wutevr many weeks u have been pumpin the iron and doin plyos. ur body would be soooo much better off if u planned a week and a half to two weeks to just REST. thats it. nothing else. just REST and recovery. once you have done this and filled ur body w/ ample recovery and nourishment items, you will be flyin thru the air as soon as u go back to the gym. i promise onc
the ground you're jumping on has an incredible effect on your knees. he's jumping on a concrete ground and that is just death for your knees and lower back
wow nice... im sure if u get back at it one day you can dunk! just wondering... im doin the beginner plyometrics and bodyweight training 4 vjb... u think i'll get good gains... im 5'10 and only have a 19 inch vert
19 huh. I started at 24 and I'm at 28, and its been a year for me. But Air Alert injured my knees. Good luck with VJB its a great program maybe put up videos of our progress.
dunno and i think you run not fast enough when you try the dunk i mean if i try it at our teams excercise i sprint and explode rly but its not enough i can touch the rim but no dunking.. still i am 1m85cm or something and my vertical leap is about 25 i think dunno.. how can i measure my leap?
nice work man! You show dedication and commitment over all those weeks. And still going after your goal, pat yourself on the back most people would give up long before that. Struggling against your god given genes is tough, I know from experience. Im 5'7 with a 35" vert., and I cant get any higher no matter how hard I push it. Extremely frustrating to say the least. Thanks for the videos and your humor is on the money!
Absolutely, 150% is needed. No argument there. My lack of sleep didn't give me recovery time to allow for an increase. If "my program" is VJB, then i can say it's not for everyone, but other people swear by it.
First of all lmercierdurso - you dont have 40 inches but thats not the point
dude i know you have age, injuries, wife, kid and responsibilities
one rule - you want to jump? you need to have power. If you want real power you need to lift 150% of your weight in squat. there is no other way man. i didt your jumping program and all i get was sore kneez.. I was jumping 2 years...now im fighing with weights. im lifring 115% and i see progress. Good Luck!
Advising me to put more anger into my jump, and to watch vince carter? That's awesome. If you meant well, then thank you. If you really have a 40" leap, then I'd just ask you to respect the fact that some of that is god-given and not all from however many hours you may or may not have put working. The fact you are making videos of yourself means you are exceedingly proud of your feats. Thus, you recognize the uniqueness of your talent. Enjoy.
Nice that you gain some inches ! But...71 week of training and your not dunking... im not hating, its just that is way too long. Also not to be mean but your not going to dunk if you keep the same jumping technique, just take a look from the best dunker out there and try to do the same thing , put more anger and explosiveness in your jump and stay smooth a the same time !
1. I wasn't getting enough sleep, and I wasn't playing enough basketball/workouts to help with improvements
2. Saying "just watch others" is kind of ridiculous. I was trying my best. If dunking were so easy, everyone would be doing it, period. It's not. if you can, pat yourself on the back and enjoy yourself.
ive seen some of your videos and i think maybe dunking isent your thing, im not hating, but 4 inch improvement after more than a year of training, i gained that in a month of just doing regular weight training and cardio
Just think you need to try to be more explosive when you train, and don't worry about you what Vert you're getting during a period of training as you need to rest for at least a week before you can measure your true vert.
By the way, I think you miscalculated the jump. You reached about 4 inches over that rim which is 1.5 inches low, so you reached 10'2.5. You said your reach is 8'1 so you jumped about 25.5 inches here.
You were told to rest more. ;) I also think you should look into nutrition, clean out the bad and put in more good stuff. Minerals that most americans are supposedly deficient in play a major role in nervous function etc.
Dude you need to increase your quickness. That's the only thing thats holding you back from dunking, to slow to the rim. Increase that core and stay flexible!
Well done man, just make sure warm up & massage the injury before & after work outs & testing your jump. I still reckon from seeing this vid alone that u could gain another inch higher just on technique. Try using hip extension a bit more because it doesn't look like you are using all of your potential. But perhaps because of the back injury u couldn't try that hard.
Are u kidding me are you really training to dunk your training is week and too dependent on lifting weights first off wow my little brother jumps higher than you you look about 30 and you could never dunk ha. That is not 29 inches of jump. I have video taped myself jumping about double what you did (on good days) and my coach said its around 26-28.

train less often with a bit more intensity.
and start jumping at the rim for two handed grabs instead of one.
