  • One of my first sax heroes and influences. Had his own "sound".

  • Bud was one of those players who definitely got better with age. I just loved how he started changing his sound being more agressive with the growls, etc.

  • I played alto sax, but gave it up when I heard him play the way sax should be played.

  • A beautiful player I have been a collector of Bud's work since the 50s. RIP and thank you

  • We have lost a great one.

    Rest in peace Bud.

  • Not many people know this, but Shank is featured on a live Frank Zappa album, and he sounds right in place with Frank's band.

  • Thanks for posting this!!

  • Shank is a legend. Many of the Pacific Jazz albums he made in the 50s are real beauties, although rarely talked about. I'd like to see more of this video.

  • when you call a jazz musician a "legend", it gives jazz haters more reason to hate jazz, and it makes me quesy, too.

    But we both love Shank.

  • When you do not know at all what you're referring to this happens so often; out of ignorance and carelkessness. Kind of common human law.

But I do love Shank too.

  • I started collecting jazz records in the late 50's. I am the proud owner of many of Bud's albums. I play alto and used Bud as an early influence.
