  • @waschbeckenfrisch Cheers!

  • Huge fan of Carpenters soundtrack work. Love your take on it all. Very impressed!

  • you know, it's funny that when I think of that club in The Terminator, "Tech Noir", I think of John Carpenter themes. it's so perfect... as much as I love the Terminator 1 theme, I think it'd be interesting to hear what John Carpenter would do for a score of that film.

  • Great stuff, my friend.

  • That SOUND... Electricity that became poetry. Another good journey.

  • Yo, great idea of a Carpenter medley! Well done!

  • That's amazing. I did a cover too, it's more "band oriented", check on my channel.

  • Man, I got to say, great work. i really enjoyed listening to that cover. Thats a hell of a set up you got there in your attic or whatever.

  • Amazing!! Carpenter does not get enough credit...neither do you!!

  • how can there possibly be 2 morons out there who dont like this. They must be jealous of this great talent. Great work!!!

  • Holy shit. This is so very awesome, man. That's a hell of a setup. Do you do session work? Don't ever stop making these videos. :)

  • excellent work!

  • hello dude,

would you like to tell me where I can find a music sheet og the fog ?

    That would be great :)

Your videos are pretty cool, keep up the good work ;)

  • Wonderful, I loved Carpenter's music:)) And I love your cover:)) Thank you:)))

  • love the arpeggio part of "Escape from New York" whatt synth do u use for that sequence ?

  • @dudo101 hi, I used the juno 6 run through the esq sequencer with a slight delay

  • Just GREAT!!!!

  • HELL YES...fantastic.

  • Fantastic you nailed it. Carpenters music is too underated. Keep them coming.

  • ok I better time to don my snake plisken outfit and prance around the garden - brilliant as always mick.

  • This is awesome!

  • Excellent job, great sounds, ive just started a page here on youtube doing vangelis and other music too, just did a version of john carpinters escape from newyork.once again great music here.

  • Sorry, just seen your AOP13..Also brilliant!!!

  • @GNeuman Hi, no problem thanks and really glad you enjoyed it:)

  • Brilliant arrangements..Any chance of doing Assault on Precinct 13??

  • good job

  • How did you make the metronomic percussive sound on the halloween theme?

  • @gmullin with the juno 6 set to a very short attack , to be honest I don't remember all the settings on the juno exactly but i do remember it took me bloody ages:)

  • @mik300z your set up makes my mouth watter!

  • This is just great. Have always loved Carpenter's movie music. Halloween 3 got badly reviewed. But I think the music was just as important as his other work. Would love to hear you do THAT!

  • Carpenter would be pleased !

  • that was awesomw man. i'm definetly going to learn how to play that when i get a keyboard

  • bloody hell this is superb...vintage sound..great stuff

  • Cooool !

    ******

  • Es buena, boya

  • you should have christene.

  • Beautiful. One of my fave soundtracks is from "assault on precinct 13" the origianl John carpenter .

  • awesome!!!

teach me how did you get these sounds!!xD

  • great

  • Sorry to disappoint you:)

  • No problem, next time :)

  • I have to agree. The sounds are spot on and are incredible! But Halloween in 4 just kills it. Have you done it in 5 like the original version? It really need to be in 5.

  • Yea you are right. The time signature is wrong. It need to be 5/4

  • i.e. adjust your sequencer to play 20 steps instead of the standard 16 steps.

  • Isn't that what the official soundtrack is for?

Mik just took the songs from the movies and put his own unique twist on them. I think both are of equal quality. In fact I somewhat prefer his version.

  • Ok, ok, but the changes of this version not so significants to an "own" version. It's just a kind of reproduction, and thatswhy on this level the changes seems just simple faults.

  • That's the point. It's like a tribute to the songs with a slightly updated sound.

  • Thankyou:) I have heard and bought re-makes of carpenter themes over the years and they always seem "note" perfect but lacking any effort to do JC's sound justice. One of the reasons i did these, not perfect musically but the sound and atmosphere hopefully make up for it. Thanks again.

  • So? This version is even better than the original.

    Period.

  • This Kicks ass I forgot how great that music was it makes me want to watch the movies again. NICE!!!!

  • Bad ass dude!

  • Nice, but at 310 it did not mix proper. drmullen.

  • Really great! Keep it up! =)

  • Thankyou!

  • Absolutely superb quality playing of such iconic 'Carpenter' work; `just love it!

    I`m in retro-heaven. :-)

  • fucking dude excellent

  • Outstanding

  • Love the original and must say you've done a terrific job. Am currently building a studio and my 1st project was to produce the EFNY theme You've certainly set the standard. Cheers!!

  • Love your stuff as always! Will you ever do some tracks from Big Trouble In Little China? I'd love to hear it

  • Hi and thanks, would love to do more JC including BTILc ......Just need the time!!!

  • Hey,mik300z,i commentet on your "Assault on precinct 13" keyboard theme, and asked "how do you play THIS theme?"i still can't get the hang of it.i was wondering, could you tell me the notes(for a begeiner)of this theme pleaz?pleaz reply.

  • I want to buy a cd of your music!!!!!!!

  • ONE WORD... AWESOME...!!!

  • ooooh, i love u!!! Goosebumps!!! I always wished there'd be a medley of Carpenter-sounds. Good work <3

  • I am very impressed

  • ¿Did you see critterS?

  • Waooohhh, really impress!! Fantastic!!! Just a question, what is the sound organ we hear at '3.14'? I love it! Congratulation again ;)

  • Hi there and thanks! The "organ sound" is actually a sound from my Ensoniq ESQ1 synthesizer. It was a hybrid analogue/digital from 1985 and I believe John Carpenter used Ensoniq synths in his scores.

  • Many thanks for your answer. I have this keyboard but i wasn't sure concerning this sound wish is amasing (congratulation for the program). John Carpenter used in the early 80's Prophet 5, Prophet 10, Arp Avatar, Arp Quadra, Linn Drum LM1 and some good effect. But maybe he use Ensoniq for different score in the mid 80's? Do you use also a Linn Drum too? Very close sound.

  • lol wish I had a Linn drum machine, I have to spend ages turning crap drum samples from my various keyboards into good ones! You are quite right on the era of his music scores from late 70's to early 80's he could not have usd ensoniq. Maybe for "they live" or later films.

  • Comment removed

  • for 'They Live' and 'Prince of Darkness' he didn't use the same equipement and introduced some digital keyboard and especially Emulator 2&3 (as many musician ) and Kurzweil. But nothing concerning Ensoniq. The most important is that you used a different equipement to play John Carpenter and you made a very very good job. ;)

  • AMAZİNG !

  • You are a crack! 5***** Carpenters forever!

  • Ultra badass

  • Simple Amazing!

  • escape from new york excelentt haloween the fog too

  • great covers excellent work !!

  • I think the bass part for halloween was a bit too raw sounding.

  • Oh man! The fog theme was absolute class. Well done

  • i want fuck this song

  • Very nicely done

  • very good !!!!!

  • I think i see a microkorg.

    Your sequencing/playing abilities are amazing!

  • I love John Carpenter, his films and the magical music. Thanks

  • sick!!

  • Excellent !

  • Dont you find the Juno G alot more modern, or are you like me and you know the ESQ alot better? And only having to quantize to a 16th, man you good and well experienced

  • cheers, yep I can operate the ESQ with my eyes closed but would need a week to read the Juno G manual and understand the 16 track song recorder!

  • gain very exellent work. Are you networking all in to one sequence like the Juno G and then quantizing to a 32 or 64th beet pattern?

  • all synths are run through the ESQ's 8 track sequencer and quantized 1/16. The ESQ is a bit of a dinosaur but it's sequencer is extremely efficient and easy to use

  • EXELLENT!!!TOP NOTCH!!!Please list all of the boards or midi sound devises.I saw a juno-106,a micro korg and an ESQ-1 digital wave. What else?

  • Hi and Thanks! Ok, the others are a Juno 6, korg x5 (mid nineties synth) Juno G and Akai S2000 sampler. Also a smallstone phase shifter for the wind effect in the Fog.

  • this is wicked you are the man!!!!!!!!!!

  • SUPERBE!!!!!

Un Cd c'est possible ? j'achete de suite.

    Extraordinaire

  • very good, i am a big john carpenter fan myself, i can also play most of his themes too, was just wanting to mention that the halloween version ur playing is not right, the theme is in 5/4 time and its played on ur video in 4/4, u possibily meant to do it lol, but its sounding really good..impressive.

  • lol I was wondering when someone would spot that:) I was just to lazy and tired that night

  • Fabulous. Excellent, Brilliant.

When I saw that these weren't the originals I nearly didn't bother but I'm so glad I listened as these really do have the feel of the originals.I've added to my playlist

  • Amazing track my friend!

    greetz

    retro

  • Cheers retro, you are a VIP guest over here:)

Would it be ok if I added this as a video responce to your wonderful juno 60 demo? Juno 6 and 106 made up almost 90% of the carpenter tribute, further demonstrating their great sound diversity.

    Mick

  • Nice versions

I love the music from Escape from new york

how bout you do the THING

  • JC left the music to Ennio Morricome for "the thing", although the opening sequence sounds very much like his style of sequencing. I often wonder why he did that. Maybe he was getting pi**ed off with doing everything at that stage!

  • That's what I was thinking. Great soundtrack though. I think if more horror/sci-fi movies had such rocking music instead of an orchestra it would have more impact. Random music with no thought behind the composition (most orchestral scoring these days) can't compare to the works of JC, Goblin or Mike Oldfield.

  • absolutely amazing - i see you are another lucky bastard with a whole rack of amazing synths ! But you deserve them 100 %

  • It sounds great you got that 80s beat to it.

  • a fan of Carpenter is a friend of mine!!!! you are totally awesome!!!

  • Do the Phantasm theme!

  • AMAZINA n EXCELLENT STUFF!!!!

You are the man. LOL. Seriously , very good work, you have managed to remake beautiful music , thanks for sharing and keep sharing more. 100/10 for rating.

  • I was curious....do you use any software (aka Reason) or is everything you do on vintage stuff?

I love Reason. But, I bet your way is more fun for live playing.

  • Hi there, to be honest I wouldn't call all my gear "vintage".... if only!!! I have recently been introduced to a software production tool and some soft synths by a friend . finding it very frustrating to use it, looking at a computer screen and clicking a mouse isn't very inspiring! I will have to eventually go in that direction though if I want to make professional recordings, but for now I am quite happy to keep playing my hardware synths and doing it "old skool" ..

  • Nah, dude. YOu don't need software. Just get a nice Reel To Reel machine... do it SUPER old school ;)

  • Thank you bro I love your stuff. The Escape from NY stuff is really tight you are the f'n man, please keep it up dude!!

  • Cheers, will do!

  • Great work - good job, I love it !!

  • I'm speechless... You are the greatest synthesizer cover maker since ED STARINK! Absolutely loved your versions of MUTINY ON THE BOYNTY and SPIRAL. There is that perfect late 70's early 80's touch! One of my all time greatest songs is the THEME from MIDNIGHT EXPRESS. It would be more than pleasure to hear you covering this song...

JAN HAMMER, JEAN MICHEL JARRE, HANS ZIMMER, VANGELIS, JOHN CARPENTER, BRAD FIEDEL, GIORGIO MORODER, HAROLD FALTERMEYER, KLAUS DOLDINGER --- All time greatest!

  • Thanks, great compliment! If it's "the chase" from Giorgio moroder you are referring to I have 2 versions on YT

  • "The Chase" and "Theme" from MIDNIGHT EXPRESS are two different songs. "Theme", as the name suggests, is the title song played also in the end of this magnificent film. "The Chase" is the fast paced action sequence song and the "Theme" is rather sad song that sums up all the horrible things happened in the film's prison. Dutch synthesizer specialist Ed Starink made an awesome cover from this song. Also in the original film plays the best version of the "Theme" not available in the soundtrack.

  • You should contact John Carpenter to work on a future project movie soundtrack with him.

  • Thankyou...you don't have his number by any chance?! lol

  • I wish I did! I'm currently working on a few movie screenplays with Influences such as JC and George Romero, Dario Argento and others to name a few. I have a friend also that Is interested in collaboration. It must be great to live in Ireland. I'm in NY.

  • Man, I totally dug that! I would be honored of I were JC to see the great work you did on his scores...The Fog was well done, dude!

  • Very talented! Love your work & version on "The Fog" and the wind effects.

  • 3:24 - MORE COWBELL!!! ;)

  • Great work, I love it.

  • I noticed on the Halloween theme that you added a hearbeat like rythmn I Like it.

  • I think the original has a "stomping" sound running through it, that was why I used a bass drum for it. Glad you liked it though

  • Awesome awesome! I always liked John carpenters stuff and I loved your escape from new york covers! Keep up the good work.

  • Brilliant work.

  • cheers!

  • excellent!

  • Great homage to Carpenter bro! You are a true fan Love it! I like the sound of your synthesizers. Could you post some original compostions? You're really talented. Keep'em comin!

  • Thanks, John Carpenter themes part 2 coming up soon.........

  • Great job, great sound, great talent!

  • very good work Mick!

This is another great example of your big talent.

    We want more! ;-)

  • Just a note for anyone who likes John Carpenter music. There is a cd on amazon which comes up when you search JC . It has the halloween pumpkin cover, and is totally misleading. It's not JC , matter of fact it sounds like it was made on a keyboard you would buy your kid for christmas. I bought it last year and threw it in the bin disgusted. It doesnt mention they are covers. I have a cd I bought 10 years ago which has the originals called "John carpenter" simple as that, black cover

  • Great Job Mick!

I have both of the John Carpenter films in my collection (Escape From NY and Escape From LA). And I only watched EFLA last week too! LOL

    :-)

  • Thanks trent, glad you enjoyed it!! I must rent out Escape from LA again, far as I remember the original theme is still there but more guitars

  • Totally AWESOME!!!

    Just watched Escape last week!

  • lol, I never get tired of watching it. snake pliskin is the ultimate hero. it's funny to see "NEW YORK 1988" and remember how excited i got as a kid thinking of the future when I watched it.I'm sure I said to myself OMG I'll be 19 then and the world will be in total chaos lol!!!!!

  • I also think Russell's role as Sgt Todd in his SF movie was an futuridtic snake.

Put me in line for your CD or MP3 downloads.

Keep up the great work! It cetainly has inspired me to get into my ESQ1

  • Great job!

  • Nice work. Great sounds true to the originals.

  • Thankyou!

  • cheers!

  • Thrown together? Sounds great! I've got a small stone ripoff (behringer) They are the greatest little phasers! Particularly like halloween on the end- better than the original I reckon!

  • thanks,I remembered these notes from years ago when I eventually could afford my first synth (the ESQ1). There's peaking, wrong timing and off key notes in escape from new york . It took hours to get the "clicking" sound for halloween, (eventually the Juno 6 came good) so the result really was rushed because I had to get to bed and back to work monday , such is life!
