I've had a 24 handicap and went to get fitted and it turned out the slim mp58 was the Iron I hit best. I had x22 callaways and it was like hitting the ball with a blunt shovel. The mp58's have improved my confidence and took me down to a 16 handi. They are so sleek to look down at and offer me great forgiveness. Having said that I dont use the 3 or 4 iron as I have hybrids. Sometimes the club aimed at beginners turn out to be wrong for them. The mp's give me feedback on miss hits so i improve.
I've hit them both and you might be surprised at the forgiveness in the blade like MP-58!! MPs forged in Japan and assembled in USA--AP-2 China all the way! Bought the Mizunos, better club for me!!
so i had a break for around 2 years, with a few rounds of golf. I still find myself a bit rusty. so im thinking about the ap2 irons, or is that too hard to hit for me. i play around handicap 7. or use to. i have to get back into gear.
@sproutysprout i no that you wanted mark to answer your question but i thought i would add my insight, the cbs are harder to hit for most players as the cbs are smaller and thus have a smaller sweat spot
@sproutysprout Somewhat, yes. I was between the two sets, and I ended up going with the AP2s. With the AP2s, you get a rather large amount of forgiveness (like you do with cavity backs) but you still get a large amount of workability, like you get with forged clubs. They're the est irons I've ever hit. Coming from some Callaway X-Forged, I gained about 10 yards with the AP2s.
First of all, love your videos they are really helpful.
Secondly, I was thinking of getting callaway xforged 09 irons but people around me have told me that AP2s feel just as smooth but yet much more forgiving.
Could you compare these two for me.
I emphasize a lot on feel, launch angle and ball speed off the face.
And I know how Mizunos feel like as I had them previously but the feel of X Forged just stole my heart.
hi, i have ust brought myself a set of ap2 irons but because of the snow recently i have been unable 2 try them out. im just wondering i am a player with a fade and sometimes is unbearable. are the ap2 irons a straight hit or make my game an even bigger fade?
@btownsmostwanted If i was to give a high handicapper a blade they wouldnt make good contact with the ball or get the ball in the air. If I give a pro a super forgiving club they couldnt shape their shots.
@maxpf When a ball is in a bad lie which is a lot of the time the smaller sleeker blades have easier access to the ball and in return allows you to contact the ball properly to shape it. A really forgiving iron head would just rip up the turf. Just my view
@philyfree hmmm....but in general it is also easier for example to play a hybrid out of the rough, because it has that wider sole, thus also allowing you to shape the ball better...but yeah, i agree with you that it is a little easier for pros to shape them, especially when the have to hook or slice their ball out of different situations....cheers
I've recently upgraded from my MP33's to the MP58's and love the look and feel of the them. Your review is spot on.....I too feel I have to really commit to the shot to get the most out of the irons......but I guess I wouldn't have it any other way.
@Tmoore7159 they actually do have some forgiveness for me, maybe i just miss better than you but i do know that if i dont hit it perfectly i will only lose maybe 5 yards or a little tiny bit more
Hey thanks! I asked you for a comparison of these two about a month ago. Awesome I got the 58's and there sweet, workable for me but can still be hit straight by non experts.
This really helped me! I could predict that the AP2 would be more forgiving by you just don't get that 'feel' that everyone is talking about! You have to hit mizunos to realise - its almost worth the reduced forgiveness just for that feel.
are you sponsored by mizuno?

Mark, are the Titleist 710 CB's harder to hit than the AP2's. If so, why?

just bought the mp 58's ....love'em
i hit the 3iron 210 broke (into) the wind...felt like butter.
Pured the 6iron 190
i feel the 58's allow the player to work the ball better...thin slole produces less drag.

@philyfree no really true, it´s more the trajectory why pros go for blades, you can shape any club

2 best irons in the market right now by miles
just depends whether you want a slight bit more of forgiveness or feel

is that the 710 ap2? there is a difference from the ap2. I hit both. I like the softer
feel of the titleist than the MP58 but they are both great irons
