The original and still best version. I didn't mind the later updates, but this is still the best version and the one I remember most. And if anyone thinks women never played a major role in the history, this, the ultimate sports theme was written by a woman - a fact a lot of people never knew until the CBC lost the rights to it!
I used to watch HNIC from very start to very finish just to hear both versions of The Theme Song. Must've been a Bettman thing to force them to change it.
Neil Peart recorded a new rock version of The Hockey Theme last month, and the percussion-inspired rendition of "Canada's second national anthem" will make its NHL ON TSN debut tomorrow: Thursday, January 14, 2010 at 7 p.m. ET during the Philadelphia @ Toronto game.
Peart's rendition of The Hockey Theme also available to fans on iTunes on January 19 and his custom drum kit used to record "Canada's second national anthem" to be donated to the Hockey Hall of Fame.
This version is the best one of all in my opinion. I just love this version. The CBC needs there heads examined for cutting the Hockey Night in Canada theme Song.
This version was the best. I can't remember the saying in french from Quebec, but in English it's something like "don't mess with the puck"! Don't mess with it if it's not broken would be close to that..
that part from 1:08 to 1:30 is awesome and was rarely heard on telecasts. I remember the Toronto telecasts used the last :30 and Montreal telecasts started at the beginning. Anyone know when this tribute show aired?
For sure the best version, including the secondary theme at 0:41. This whole version would play at the end of the games along with the closing credits. The newer "modernized" version doesn't hold a candle to this one.
Perfect original version. It has a bit of swing but has a heroic feel to it too. Much better than the second-rate "modernized" version. The secondary theme at 0:41 is never heard anymore. This whole version would be played at the end of the games, with closing credits.
The original and best version. Agree with Mayzee, the newer version doesn't hold a candle to this. The closing 30 seconds used to play at the end of the hockey game, with credits.
That's the classic one!

What happened is, hockey became a product. It became something they had to try and sell to the US. Greed ruined the NHL.

There is just something inspirational about that music. It is so unique and so Canadian.
p.s. I like the look of the boards without ads plastered all over them too. Somehow we have lost our decorum along the way.

Not THAT'S the real Hockey Night in Canada theme. Not these bastardized versions CBC has been playing the past 20 years.
5 Stars!

No they won't ... the Communists at the CBC will have their way.

Well - now it'll be TSN's theme music - in perpetuity as they bought the rights. The song lives.
Nuklhd 3 years ago
CTV bought it and they own tsn so it will be played on tsn
