  • d land sink

  • go iowa

  • Very interesting; my YT friend jjfans99 recommended this video to me. :)

  • very cute

  • what did the guns shoot? and where can i get me one of those without building one? is there some sort of club? if yes what would it be called? and what would be an average price range for something like a bismarck version?

  • @darthreven9999 The cannons shoot steel ball bearings, from .177" to 1/4" diameter. If you want a ship without building one, you'll have to buy one used. If you ask around, most combat clubs have a few used ships for sale. My local club is the WWCC, although there are other clubs like IRCWCC and MWCI. I cannot estimate price for a used ship, as that depends on the condition of the ship, how quickly the owner wants to sell, etc.

  • @kotori87 thanks and i looked into it and it goes for expensive to drop dead ridiculus in price on ebay. but me and my buddy are thinking we should just make one. more fun that way.

  • @darthreven9999 ebay is totally the wrong place to be looking for RC combat ships. The best thing to do is get in contact with your local club, and ask in person, or ask on the RC Naval Combat website. Of course, building your own ship is even better :)

  • @kotori87 ok the problem is i dont know of any club in ontario that does R/C battleships

  • @darthreven9999 Well there's the Ontario Attack Force, or OAF, for starters. There may be others, but that's the one I know of.

  • @kotori87 ok thanks ill look them up

  • did u get the ship back after she sank?

  • @Comet5551 Of course! Ship recovery is my specialty :)

  • that final ram is what did it in besides the worst those 11" could do to Iowa was scratch her paint

  • I bet a scale Fletcher would be TINY in comparison. But those torpedo tubes were no joke!

  • Germany wins^^

  • lol royal rumble boat fight!

  • iowa verses the deuschland? lol I doubt the deuschlands 11 inch guns could penetrate the iowas 16 inch armor.

  • @MegaJay5000 Good thing this is scale, not historical. This may be an unequal match, but at least it's not a totally one-sided match.

  • awesome ^^

  • she's listing hevaliy to port

  • lol that looks like fun

  • Put in a large firecracker to simulate scuttling your ship like the original GRAF SPEE. LOL

  • @PotatoGunsRule How about not. Pyrotechnics are strictly prohibited for safety reasons. I like having all ten of my fingers, thank you very much.

  • where do you get a ship?

  • @jam9357 Hi Jam, you can either build a ship or buy a used ship. If you want to build a ship, I would suggest you check out Strike Models for hulls, cannons, and other major components. To buy used, you'll need to contact your local club.

  • so if you have allready apply skotchkote you dont have to apply alcohol after sinking

  • @mom352 Correct. If you have skotchkoted your electronics, you do not need to flush them with alcohol immediately to save them. However, it's still a good idea to rinse components like motors, to prevent long-term rust.

  • if chuck norris had the remote he could beat the real iowa

  • what happens to the ship electronics when it sinks and how do you fix what do you use and how do you make I can fix mine battleship

  • @mom352 One of the first steps after recovering a sunken ship is to open up its electronics and flush them with isopryl alcohol. The alcohol displaces the water then evaporates, preventing any permanent damage. With modern components like waterproof ESCs and stuff like Corrosion-X and Skotchkote, a warship can potentially be ready to fight again within minutes of getting sunk.

  • @kotori87 do you use one or the other alcohol or do you mix them together

  • @mom352 Corrosion-X is a substitute for alcohol, that is used in the same manner, ie flush after a sink. Skotchkote is a brush-on sealant that forms a waterproof barrier over electronic circuitboards.

  • @kotori87 so could you put them in order and put what were

  • @mom352 You apply skotchkote when you first build the ship. This seals the circuitboard and prevents it from getting wet when submerged.

If you have NOT applied skotchkote, then you apply corrosion-X or alcohol after you sink. This displaces the water and prevents rust from forming.

  • Have the Japanes battleship Yamato ship that would be so fricking awesome.

  • so are they easy to repair when they get damaged>> :o

  • @CatFro4 quite easy. I can patch my boat up in 1-2 hours, or do a total reskin in about 4-5 hours. Compared to how long it takes me to fix my RC car, or that one time I landed my plane too hard, I'd say that's pretty good.

  • ha ha i'v never seen this before!! looks great! what are the ships made from? Are they modified plastic kits that you can buy in the shops or are they made from scratch? would love to watch one of these battles!

  • @strongross1981 All ships are made from scratch, using plywood structure and balsa sheeting for the penetrable sides.

  • How much would a remote controlled Prinz Eugen cost?

  • @OhioGuy19 depends on which Prinz Eugen you mean, and how much you put into it. I would expect around $500 if you arm torpedoes in the cruiser Prinz Eugen, or $1000 if you arm all guns in the battleship Prinz Eugen.

  • @kotori87,

I'm looking at Heavy Cruiser Prinz Eugen! She cute! So is her bigger brother!

    Nikki

  • How do you retrieve the ship once it sinks?

  • @OhioGuy19

Most of the time the water is shallow and they just go and swim after it.

  • @mudkiptyler

What exactly is it that makes the ship sink? Are the armaments such that the battleships cause more "damage" than the destroyers, heavy cruisers, light cruisers, etc?

  • @OhioGuy19 The model ships have their turrets make into metal bb shooters. Basicly More guns means more attack. Thats all the splashing going on there.

  • @OhioGuy19 The ships are made to be penetrated by their low-powered bb cannons. When one ship shoots a hole in another ship's side, it lets water flood in. Bigger guns make bigger holes, sinking ships faster. We do have damage control bilge pumps that can keep a ship afloat with some flooding. But once you take too much damage, you're going for a swim.

  • looks like a funny hobby. how much money do you spend in it ?

  • @WeedAndWeapons Depends on the ship, armament, and hardware you install, but the average battleship runs about $1000. Keep in mind, though, that the average battleship can last for many years. There are some ships in my club that are older than I am, that are still actively campaigning.

  • 2:19 is't that a nelson?

  • @88Tomm88 Correct. At 2:19 you can see HMS Rodney, another Deutschland-class cruiser, and a Giussano-class cruiser.

  • very cool hobby! i like that!

  • Haha! This is awesome.

What do you use for ammo?

  • @pelicane136 The ships are shooting pneumatic (CO2-powered) cannons, and fire steel bbs from .177" diameter up to 1/4" diameter. There are a number of clubs around the world that do this. If you're interested, you should join up.

  • @kotori87 are there any rules? whats to stop someone from making a huge boat with a scuba tank shooting a pcp gun at the other boats? wouldn't that just destroy anything it hit beyond repair?

  • @frewcc There are very strict rules for safety, armament, scale, and operations. You have to build a ship to the right scale, from within the allowed time period, and with cannons that meet safety tests. We believe in lasting fun, and that doesn't happen if a ship is permanently destroyed. With our current rules, even the most severe damage is temporary. You'd be surprised how many times one ship can be sunk in a single day's battling.

  • A heavy cruiser in sense vs. one of the world greatest classes of battleship...um, OK.....

  • @throbbin87 The teams were balanced. This heavy cruiser just got ambitious and squared off against an opponent it couldn't go toe-to-toe with, and got isolated before the rest of the Axis team could help out.

  • @kotori87 Nice, looked like fun! Did it a few times, I had a wonderful full model of the Bismarck for it....They packed a nice punch the Deutschland class....How deep is the pond you guy do this in??

  • this lokk fun as shit where can i find one of those????

  • @USMCsniperboy There are clubs for this hobby all around the world. For starters, there are three separate clubs in different parts of California, where I live. Take a look on the RC Naval Combat website (link in the video description) to find other clubs.

  • how much does one of these things cost?

  • @Livingforpace Depends on how ambitious you are. You can spend as little as a few hundred dollars, if you know what you're doing, or as much as you want. On average, this hobby is somewhat cheaper in the long run than racing R/C cars or crashing... I mean flying R/C airplanes.

  • @kotori87 o ok thx

  • How do you retrieve the sunken ships ?

  • how did you Build and make the turrents run?

  • @bully056 The turrets are custom-made for each ship using a lathe, mill, and other machine tools. Everything else is run by fairly standard hobby R/C electronics.

  • Their probably firing blanks but theyd still hurt like hell like a paintball

  • Wrong on both counts. They are using CO2-powered low-energy cannons firing up to 1/4" bb's. Yes, it hurts to get hit, but not quite like an unbroken paintball. Obviously, safety glasses are still required.

  • @Nascarking24 Ya blanks dont fire anything, hence the name blanks. Dont know what kinda blanks ur getting hit with

  • Pick on somebody your own size,Iowa :))

  • sweet...what are the scale classes

  • All ships are built to 1:144 scale

  • @kotori87 let fight the bismarck against the iowa :D:D

  • Iowa would still probably win

It was faster and had bigger guns

  • @LILITALY51793 thats not a reason to win we would see what happen :)

  • @LILITALY51793 whouldnt make much sence for a ship weighting 4 times as much to be faster

  • Comment removed

  • @vett3l0l bigger ship = bigger engine = more horsepower = more speed

Regardless, the Iowa could utterly destroy any battleship that has ever existed and most that the axis designed but never built

It's technology was far ahead of any other country's in the world and the USN 16" shells were some of the hardest hitting in the entire war

  • @LILITALY51793 the Iowa CANT have been faster, simply impossible, as the pocket battleships were designed for speed and manouverability!

  • @vett3l0l The historical "pocket battleships" were good for about 27-28 knots top speed, as determined in pre-war trials under controlled conditions in fair weather. The Iowa class spent most of their war careers cruising around the Pacific at 33 knots. Rumor has it that, in post-war sea trials under controlled conditions and in fair weather, the Iowas were even faster.

  • @LILITALY51793 Be careful when you make general, unqualified statements like that. The Iowa has a lot of advantages, but that is no guarantee of victory, against any opponent. A single shell landing just right could spell its end, as HMS Hood found out. You're also failing to account for prevailing conditions, like weather and mission objectives. Since the historical ships never fought, any speculation over which would win is just that: speculation.

  • go iowa

  • how are you supposed to participate in this if there are no organizations near you? Please answer i live in miami florida and really want to try this but i cant find any rc clubs near me

  • There are clubs in Florida. Take a look at the RC Naval Combat website. There's a forum where you can contact local club members, and a club finder for locating the nearest club to you.

  • i no this sounds thick , but after they sunk is that it do u get them back?.

    what do they fire with?

  • By any chance, is one of the ships in 2:29 the HMS Rodney?

  • Why yes it is! Not just any Nelson class, but specifically the Rodney. Impressive.

  • I kinda figured it out to be a Nelson class BB when I saw the the the Bow area in front of the superstructre was significantly greater in surface area than the stern area behind the supertruce; and only two warships during WWII had that kind of ratio: the British Nelson class Battleship and the Japanese Tone class Heavy Cruiser

  • i saw it was a nelson class when i see the three guns in front and know guns in back, and well just the rodney's hull stands out

  • were do you get uss Iowa

  • You build it. With plywood, balsa, and glue. And a bunch of other tools and materials. Or you buy one used from another skipper. I highly recommend you visit the links in the video's description to find out more information.

  • well i know that i mean did you get a kit

  • not a snap-together, that's for sure. You can buy "kits" with the hull and most of the warship-specific components (cannons and such) online. Google-search "Strike Models" to find out more.

  • k thanks man, i wish people were as helpful as you guys in every hobby

  • what about the engine

  • what do you want to know about the motors? They're standard brushed electric motors, and they don't care if they get wet. You can get suitable motors from Strike Models, hobby stores, or electronic surplus stores.

  • That water looks kinda murky. I'd hate to have to go wading in that slime for a model.

  • It's not really that bad. Visibility varies between 10 feet and 6 inches, depending on the underwater flora. I've seen pools that look worse :o

  • lol gomes thats navyfield ...this is a lil different ..but i agree Iowa Pwns

  • LMAO this is awesome

  • i told u the iowa was the best ship in game..

  • lol then a scale modle to thoise ships comes in and PWNS them both, well, maybe likea F-117 or an A-10 thunderbolt II

  • If you can build a historical RC airplane to the correct scale (1:144), arm it with non-pyrotechnic weapons capable of damaging those ships, and fly it in the sort of wind conditions we usually get, then you're welcome to try. If you do, however, I suspect that the Department of Defense will want to offer you a job...

  • don't we already have small un manned aircraft about that big? i know we have the predator drone, but lets face it, an AGM would seem like a nuke to those two battleships. there are Dog fights that happen with the RC'd planes except they use some sort of lazers to fire not bullets or caps. maybe caps for movies and stunts i don't know

  • well Vid is cool but never heard about a ship named Deutschland. of course There is a Deutschland-ClassLützow & Admiral Scheer & Admiral Graf Spee but they´re no Battleships but heavy cruisers.Iowa indeed is a Battleship and would be equal to Tirpitz and her sister ship Bismarck.

  • IIRC The Lutzow was originally called Deutschland. They changed the name when they realized what a blow to public morale it would be if Deutschland (Germany, in german) got sunk.

ps: I would hardly call Bismarck an equal to the Iowa. They're on whole different levels, both in the hobby and in real life.

  • in real life i would never serve on a battleship lol

  • The Graf Spee is a Deutschland class.

  • how do you shoot with this ships ?

  • Very carefully! Actually, each ship has one or more cannons onboard, controlled via RC. Those cannons are how we shoot. You can find out further information on the RC Naval Combat website.

  • This is cool.

  • Wo ist Yamato,Bismark,Tirpitz,Gneisenau,Scharnhorst und Musashi

  • Not helping their teammate, that's where. Actually, in this case, it was the cruiser that separated from the team. It was chasing after a merchant ship until it ran into the merchant's escort, USS Iowa.

  • kotori87,

this video cool.. who were the boats on the water and why did Little Lutzow, leave her group..

    Nikki

  • Dude! You guys have models of the Yamato and Musashi in the club?!

  • Yamato shows up about once every two years. her skipper isn't very active. Musashi is on my to-build list, but it'll be a few years yet before that project gets off the ground.

  • wooo those boats were awsome, lol

  • nice vid the iowa is my fav

  • imagine loading a stick of dynamite in one of these then sneakin it up in the center of a flock of geese or ducks floating in the water :DD

  • how about NO. bb holes are repairable, but dynamite is a bit too... permanent.

  • Not to mention, the birds would be quite offended.

  • how do you recover them??

  • mask, snorkel, and fins. Swimming for sunken ships is actually a lot of fun, in the hot California summer.

  • She's listing to starboard, there! Great, dramatic sound track, btw. Pretty cool.

  • where are my cruise missles. i demand my cruise missiles

  • denied, for safety reasons

  • wow! a Nelson class there! cool sport!

  • I love the das boot soundtrack in the background...just missing someone hollering "Schnella!!" (just kidding.)

    looks awesome

  • ma che e scoppiata la 3 guerra mondiale

  • that was COOL!!

  • very cool

  • please omg tell me how to get those ships plzzzz

  • You build it. With wood. And a saw. And other bits and pieces. Do a google search for "RC Naval Combat" for more information.

  • I was wondering when you were going to get sick of answering the same questions over and over again, kotori. :)

  • You can also use a fiberglass hull with holes where you put balsa wood so that it's easy to fix and cheaper to maintain, plus the wood will break after mutliple sinkings I've found, fiberglass is a good way

  • We *do* do that. Fiberglass hulls are popular in many clubs, but they must meet the same penetrability requirements as wooden-hulled boats. This means cutting large "windows" in the sides, and sheeting over them with balsa. Using a fiberglass hull saves time, and is easier for beginning builders, but the final result isn't as nice as a well-made wooden hull. BTW, the wooden hulls don't break after they get sunk. They're waterproofed just like everything else.

  • Well, I've made a Yamato and a Bismarck using the fiberglass/balsa wood sections, and it does come out to be a nicer finish

  • very cool

  • what are you use as ammo?

  • Wow this is unbelievably awesome.

  • at 2:29 is it the HMS Nelson or HMS Rodney???

  • At 2:29, you can see (front to back) Rodney, Giussano, Adm. Scheer, and Missouri

  • Hmm, this is f'ing awesome, but i just have one questoin, the ship sank, what about all the stuff inside the ship? the motor, the bb guns? etc.? hopefully those are all still salvageable and can be used again (IE they are waterproof?!?!)

id love to freaking do this, srsly

  • Yes, the electronics and other components do not mind water. If a radio or servo gets wet, dunking it in rubbing alcohol will restore it to life, and motors are perfectly happy running even when completely submerged. For cannons, you just cycle them a few times after bringing them back to the surface, and that blasts any water still inside out the barrels and dries it out.

  • As awesome as that is i wouldn't do it for 1 reason and 1 reason only. If those things can sink the other ships imagine what a rogue round would do to a person on shore. Maybe generally nto lethal, unless you were hit in the eye, neck or somewhere else vulnerable.

V cool and i would love to do it, but only if i had a bulletproof window between me and the shore.

  • Duban, we are very well aware of the safety risks involved in this sport. We have very strict cannon penetration limits, such that even a direct hit from a heavy-caliber round will not draw blood. It'll sting like @#$% for a few seconds, and maybe leave a bruise or welt, but that's about it. And we're also very strict about the use of safety glasses. Just to give you an idea, at yesterday's battle I got shot three times, and I'm still whole and hearty enough to reply here.

  • what kind of ammo does these cannon towers use? and how do they reload??

  • They use steel ball bearings, up to 1/4 inch in diameter. The cannons themselves are designed with a very simple, gravity-powered breech that automatically reloads the cannon after each shot.

  • USS Iowa= epic win!!!!!!!

  • was the deutschland the one that sank?

  • Yes

  • how much those ships cost to make ?

  • Depends on how complex the ship is you're making, and how good you are at making it. A decent ship can cost anywhere between $500 and $1500.

  • R u in the club cause i want too goin but i dont know were it is

  • The local club I joined is in San Jose, California, but there are clubs all around the world. do a google search for "RC naval combat" for more information, clubs, etc.

  • how are the guns aimed? is there 2 person team, one controling the boat the other controling the guns?

  • For the most part, it's only one person per boat. Each radio controller has two sticks for controls. One stick controls maneuvering (throttle and rudder), and the other stick controls cannons (rotation and firing). Additional stuff like switches and dials can be used for pumps, depression, etc. Two-person teams are not very common, since most people like having their own individual ship.

  • where do you get the cannons for these ships?

  • I made them :) with a mill and a lathe and a screwdriver and a knife

  • Amazing combat and sinking !

It was only between Iowa and Deutschland? I can see a lot of ships.

I remember the first combat damage was inflicted to the Deutschland by Spanish Republic planes ;)

Congratulations for a well finished job :D

  • Hey May 7th is my birthday

  • this looks like a fantastic hobby. thanks for the vid

  • the shooting sounds like poping popcorn lol.

  • so is the hull made of balsa wood or another light material? i was just wondering what causes them to sink thanks

  • The hull's structure comes from a plywood or fiberglass framework, but it is sheeted in thin balsa wood. It is the balsa wood that takes damage when hit, allowing the ship to flood and eventually sink.

  • bant!

  • how heavy are they in pounds?

  • The rule of thumb for estimating weight is 1 pound for every 1,000 tons historical. For example, a 3,000 ton destroyer IRL would weigh 3 pounds as a model, and a 45,000 ton battleship would weigh 45 pounds as a model.

  • Are the parts to get these expensive

  • Each part individually isn't very expensive, but there are a lot of parts required. More expensive is the equipment to produce the quality parts you need, and the amount of time you spend putting it together.

  • did u get the ship back???

  • yes. The ship sank in shallow water, and its emergency marker float successfully deployed. Even if that were not the case (as sometimes happens), we would swim to recover it.

  • oh ok thanx

  • hahahaha this is epic music for an epic clip!

  • are those air guns?

I'd assume you wouldn't have .22 LR on a model ship.

  • yes, those are CO2-powered pneumatic cannons. No gunpowder-propelled projectiles, explosives, or pyrotechnics of any sort, due to safety concerns.

  • :( no fun

jk tight hobby but i dont have the patience

  • Where i can get these ship's

    ?
