  • This makes me want to choose my own English name...

  • I love it, is so much true

  • i know im like 5 years late, but shes cute

  • SMACKER

  • Oh~ What a shock! An old lady's English name is "Smacker"... A loud kiss...

  • SAMANFAR and her sidekick.. "No, No No! Stop doing tha- No No! Nooo!"

  • Good job Sophie!!! I am from China and I have a awkward English name as well. It's mostly referring puppy in USA. I'm so glad they don't put my english name but pinyin on my name tag when I work in US.

  • Hypercritical enough! Don't find those shit excuses like "it's easier for other people call you". Look Japanese, look Korean, they all insist to use their own name instead of foreign name, the truth is Chinese people believe they are inferior, they think grab a white people's name will make them look a bit more superior. Chinese definitely have no soul. Giant country of copycat, everything even names...Shit!

  • @SuperBlacx wow, racist much?

  • this video sucks... i mean it... so artificial... do you think that chinese people all name themselves sth like frog, condom, sperm, lavatory? holy shoooot..... most of the chinese people will go something simple, matt, robin, harry, angela for example, but don't presume, and don't be misled by this stinky video that everybody was that weird and stupid

  • Hi,Su Fei,this video is also great! About your first video, your goal is exact opposite to me,cause I am seeking a foreign girl in Beijing, but you re seeking a guy in Beijing, hahaha, but anyway, hope to see your next nice video soon.

  • Su Fei,happy new year! I am Frank from Beijing. Your video is really great! I really like it. I will always check your great video everyday.

  • WOW! CHINESE PEOPLE HAVE THE COOLEST NAMES!! 2:18 WEISHENME? YOU SHOULD TEACH US SOME CHINESE TOO. ESPECIALLY SINCE JUDGING BY WHERE YOUR VIDEO IS MOST POPULAR YOUR VIDEO IS MOSTLY CHINESE SPEAKERS. THE CHINESE KEYBOARD USES ENGLISH CHARACTERS TO MAKE UP THEIR TRADITIONAL LANGUAGE TOO EH? LIKE JAPANESE ROMAJI? I THOUGHT I WOULDNT BE INTERESTED IN THIS BECAUSE IM MORE INTERESTED IN JAPAN THAN CHINA BUT I GUESS WE'RE ALL HUMAN AND ITS VERY INTERESTING AND INSIGHTFUL. THANKS. 4:32 SMACKING HANDS

  • FURTHERMORE... WHY DOES EVERYONE CARE ABOUT CHINA SO MUCH MORE THAN THE REST OF ASIA... IS IT BECAUSE CHINA IS SYNONYMOUS WITH ASIA? NOBODY CALLS PEOPLE ASIAN. THEY CALL THEM CHINESE. SO OF COURSE THIS INADVERTENTLY PROMOTES CHINA EVEN IF THEYRE AGAINST IT.

  • Her name in Chinese implies/means 'Maxi Pads'...With those glasses and that voice, that actually seems really fitting

  • 2:20 three dot ellipsis? franchement lol

  • I saw a Sergeant from China in the Singapore Army named "Shadow". It made me lol so hard I almost crapped my pants.

  • Awesome! I felt bad for laughing but couldn't help it.. some of these names are pretty good! Good job!

  • Makes it tougher for English speaking people to pronounce actual Chinese names if they dont use it.

I met a Chinese guy at Uni whose "English" name was "Claude"...

  • uhmwär echt cool wenn jemand mich vor meinen einsamen dasein retten würde

  • It reminds me of a young Hispanic man I saw at a restaurant wearing a tee-shirt that said "I have PMS and a gun" with a picture of a gun. My guess was that he had no idea what PMS was.

  • @luxomni I saw a dude in bangkok with a shirt that said "Gay for Favre" and he asked what it meant... he was unimpressed when me and my friends told him haha

  • smacker..

  • SUSAN. LMAO

  • "Samanfar" lol...

  • @ChewyChew YEAH. LETS EQUATE EVERYTHING. JEEZ... AND FAGGOT IS GAY PEOPLES NIGGER.

  • @ChewyChew HEEHEE THIS REMINDS ME OF THE YELLOW PEOPLE THAT GET AMERICAN NAMES AND HAVE NO IDEA WHAT THEY MEAN

  • hahahhaha so true.

  • "No no!" is officially the best name I've heard for a dog. Haha.

  • lol

  • Are you Illiteracy?

  • awesome job!

  • those glasses are fucking retarded.

  • LOL! I love it.

  • Mandarin is a beautiful language, so nice to hear spoken.

  • I love this programme. Anna is so funny, and she speaks very good Mandarin (better than me). I am ashame of myself....

    我的名字是 Derek.

  • 我的名字是Christopher

  • China is going international and of course an English name is essential XD

Plus Chinese kids all learn English in their schools, a lot of Chinese are bilingual... even multilingual.... I'm one of them :D

  • ne hen how great vid,i wonder this living here in taiwan

  • My name is AURORA and I don't think it's an english name.

  • It is a lovely English name. 'Aurora' means 'dawn' in Latin. 'Dawn' is also an english name but I think Aurora is nicer. We still use 'Aurora' to describe the colourful lights at the Norh Pole. xxx

  • I didn't find it funny at all. i don't know what the woman's trying to tell others. as I see, Chinese people seemed quite friendly when interviewed whereas the woman had her own purpose.

  • you have no idear about China people . soccer not means all 1.3 billion people for China you fucking asshole.soccer player not for football just for pay you get it?

some time we call you jap

  • you are a chinese man ,right??

  • ^^ Great video! Very, very lovely interesting !!

My real English name is Ella, which I got many years ago..

  • i love beijing,i love china.

  • Irritating and patronising in equal measures

  • yeah it's real easy going to a foreign country and laughing at people for not speaking YOUR language properly.

  • LMFAO!!! haha! funny enough,i like it!

  • fuck you

  • they are all lovely people, haha

  • i think so

  • Wow. Stumbled this. I love it! That lady named Angelina and Smacker are my favorite. They have such lovely personalities.

  • Woman named "Smacker". A guy named Andy wearing a nametap with "Susan". These can't be for real right? Wow...

  • Dude, WTF? Everyone in the video was smiling, it was all in good fun. It was not mean-spirited in the least. Why the hate?

  • my name is ... smacker

    LOL

  • lol this is hilarious and well put together.

  • why?

  • your face is the wierdest~

  • she is soooo funny, speak mandarin well too.

a guy call susan, that made my day

where can i find more of her? she should have her own show

  • I personally think that SuFei is ok for being used as a Chinese name.

There are plenty of other brand names for tissue in China (I guess, hundreds?), and most people will not relate SuFei to tissue.

  • She should make another video to find out how foreigners to get a Chinese name...

I guess that will be also of great fun...

  • For example, Australian PM Kevin Rudd can speak Mandarin, and he got a Chinese name "陆 克文",(Lu KeWeng).

"Lu" is a poplular Chinese family name (it means "land", I guess it comes from "Rudd". "Ke" may mean "solve", "Weng" means "culture". "KeWeng" should come from "Kevin".

But I am sure Kevin Rudd's Mandarin is worse than this lady.

  • You make me proud to be a Human. Thank's Baby.

  • Lovely Job Woman, You make me proud to be American.

  • why should chinese have English name in China? I m doing my master in U.S and few foreigners here have their English name. Many U.S ppl like to call foreigners' original name no matter how hard it would be. I think it's kind of respect to their own culture.

Actually many Chinese ppl in China have simple and meaningless e-names like 'bob', 'jack' or something dull. I feel sick whenever I heard those names from Chinese. Those names were used in mid 1900s in U.S ,kind of outdate

  • I understand ur feeling. Yes, most Chinese get an English name just for fun. So, when a Chinese tells other Chinese his/her English name only, it may appear rude/offensive for them, because they know your English name is just a nickname only.

But I am ok that Chinese use English when dealing with foreigners, because it was sometimes too difficult for foreigners to pronounce and remember a Chinese name.

I guess the appropriate way is to tell both Chinese names and English names. ^_^

  • I like this video, really funny.

Actually many Chinese do not know the correct spelling of English names. They use some Chinese translations for these English names based on their pronunciations.

  • jew begging god for 7 years about the same thing every day

jew: god, god ,please let me win in lottery, please!i dont want too work!

god: ok ,ok, but u have too buy the ticket first!

  • I`m english, but I do have a Chinese name, it`s Huuuaaaaweiiihahhh Naaaaahow

  • funny... Can't contain the laughter. :)

  • to the person who says she's making fun of languages? First of all, I'm Asian so I can say from my point of view - at least - that it wasn't poking fun in a mean way. I thought it was a great webisode showing how different we are culturally. It doesn't mean it's bad. I am really impressed with the way she has really spoken fluently in both languages. Plus, the people looked like they had fun and she didn't insult them about it. And way to go at being a hypocrite calling her a redneck.

  • susan...hahahahaha

  • i like the way you r showing translation issue. I had to make up a name for myself. i am glad many chinese are speaking little bit english this day.

  • you did a fantastic job in Beijing. Thank you for trying to build a bridge between Chinese culture and other countries. Chinese culture is great and splendid. Any body involves in Chinese culture will definitely enjoy it and will be attracted. The deeper you involve in the Chinese culture, the more joy you will have.

  • Haha,that's fun

  • I 服了 YOU

  • they r soooooooo cute!!!!

    love them:)

  • suck !!!

  • 4:14 - 4:16 is the best part!!!

  • Haha they call him Susan. Pwned.

  • Funny

  • Haha, that was awesome. I was a teacher in Zhejiang for 2 years and it was absolutely the same :)

  • if she doesnt get a new pair of glasses, I'll go to beijing and shoot her in the eye with an svd.

  • pretty cool girl

  • Foreigners,don't learn mandarin,it's not beautiful,and it's not Chinese,it's Manchurian,you should learn Ancient Chinese.

  • 抵制满清靼子普通话,恢复古汉语发音.

  • Goon Goon Ca Gu,Ze' Gaal Dye Dyu,Iiu Lêêu' Hlyeug Na', Gun Tse'Huu'Gu.

  • 胡同,您,軲lu,都是满语的词,真难听.春节晚会的时候还听见有一个小品里说: 今天我腾儿(特)高兴,更是不堪入耳.

  • 比较一下,北京话:Guan Guan Ju Jiu er,Zai He Zhi Zhou er,古汉语:Goon Goon Ca Gu,Ze' Gaal Dye Dyu.

  • You are SOOOOOOOOO funny. Do you think people in beijing pronounce "关雎" like that? I must say it is ridiculous. We do NOT add "er" after every single word. For example, a lot of people from other areas say "xi zhi men er", "jian guo men er", but I am sorry, we will NOT say it in that way. Have you been to Beijing? I think the answer is not. You should come and have a look.

  • 现在,我们让时光倒流2000年,看看战国时期和秦汉时期真正的发音吧,根本没有儿话音.关关雎鸠,在河之洲,Goon Goon Ca Gu,Ze' Gaal Dye Dyu.

  • hahah that's funny

  • Funny and well done!

    Love it!

  • Susan, me encanta tu programa.

  • Then why bother coming to China? Don't come if you don't like it Period

  • I dont think it's funny to ask that lady to say "My name is smacker" in English. How pathetic you are to make fun of that innocent lady. How about you say "你的名字叫鸡"? You know what that mean? Feel good ahuh?

Well anyway, you are just a piece sanitary towel. Never mind.

  • Cool!!!

  • hahahah, that girl said "Saman傻" for "Samantha" ROFL....

  • so funny !

  • su fei maxipad. lol

  • haha i don' t know what you say

  • seems like you enjoy making fun of other languages, don't you?

    rednecks, sigh...

  • Well...Japanese shops are shattered in the video, and that's the reason why you support "FREE TIBET"?

  • Nur die Sophie ist ein bisschen zu ugly, nicht nur ihr Face, sondern auch ihr Soul.

  • You want to speak chinese like Su fei?

    It's so easy

I can help you for free!

  • Hello Dear Sophie, I find your video funny, happy, nice, because I have a Chinese wife from Beijing. Xu Fen is loyal, devoted, cheerful but she does not encourage me to learn Mandarin. She says we live in the west & should speak English, but I wish I could speak it like U do! Best regards, Gary

  • Hello Dear Sophie,

I find your documentary very funny because I am a Western guy living in Beijing.

Tell me, If I were to make a 'funny video' of the Jews in Antwerp with the same talent as you have, you could automatically say that I am ANTISEMITE, correct?

Or, should I make a movie of the worst MOTEL I visited in Rio de Janeiro with no doors in front of the 2 toilet places. The script of the video could make the motel the funniest to visit.

I would like to have your comment on it. ThankU

  • only complete reactionaries would call you antisemite for that... it's a symptom of a world that's gone to stupid levels of political correctness; I don't see why people can't have a little dig at things or people they find amusing, idiosyncrasies are everywhere, and some *are* funny..what's the harm in having a chuckle as long as there's no malice attatched?I've laughed along at jokes at my own expense, when they're genuinely funny, it's no big deal;peoples egos in this age are far too fragile..!

  • hmm... this was a response to a comment on the next page, but it didn't seem to attatch to it for some reason; please read that first before giving me a thumbs up or down :-)

  • moneymoneymoneymoooooooneeeeeeey

  • Su Fei is cool.

  • What is so funny about name?

  • Can you image?

One day,we all have chinese name!

  • I love Sophie. She speaks Chinese very well...

  • If those people want to boycott Beijing Olympics, then they should BOYCOTT THE 2012 LONDON OLYMPICS! FREE N IRELAND!! And for the British role in the Jewish occupation of the Land of Palestine too! Romans evicted Bar Khoba (sp?) and Jewish people almost 2,000 years ago, and the British and Chaim Weissman just go in and take it away and get billions in arms from my hard earned tax dollars?

  • Good stuff, hope to see more.

  • WOW just need to say, ur FAB AT CHINESE congrats, WOW what an experience moving to China, how come you moved there ? and also you seem like a good presenter :D

  • lol, L's are difficult

  • aww i <3 ur documentary

  • What the hell is this ... A white girl can speak Chinese???

  • Yes..she can

  • Outstanding! You are one heck of a person! I have watched all your documentaries or snipits, and they are a great way for me to see and understand another culture far away, presented from a person who speaks my language. Keep of up the fantastic work! You have to be a passionate person to do what you do and then have to read all the BS comments, from viewer's, but you are helping the world and my tiny world go by........ I wish you the best. How about a snipit on "Toys" do they play the same?

  • very good, i like

  • love beijing

  • Stop ethnic cleansing!!!!!

  • Bin Laden is a peaceful monk protestor who blew up the World Trade Center.

CNN + BBC: "hmm, very peaceful monk"

The Mass: "Hell yeah! He is just peaceful monk demonstrating all the way!"

  • Free Tibet!

  • Bin Laden is a peaceful monk protestor who blew up the World Trade Center.

CNN + BBC: "hmm, very peaceful monk"

The Mass: "Hell yeah! He is just peaceful monk demonstrating all the way!"

  • Pass this on in 7 days or you may die

    On March 25th, it begins.

    The Olympic Torch Relay...

    Beijing, we are ready.

  • ready to what?

  • LoL~~~~ Very good. I am Chinese.

  • Nice! Actually, it's more convenient to use alphabets than Chinese characters in E-mail or messenger.Just save some time on typing. Well, "What's in a name? That which we call a rose

By any other name would smell as sweet."

    lol

  • I actually think this video is pretty funny..It'll also be interesting if u check out the chinese names foreigners are giving themselves in china...even more hilarious.

  • I would like to see that for myself. Do you have any recommendations?

  • wow, that damned sasuke person posted way too much comments about how terrible China is.

  • the brand of maxi pads is from a Japanese company

  • 对于你们这样无聊肤浅的认识而感到可笑!

  • well......i dont really think it's shallow...or boring......instead...i think its quite hilarious~~~

  • It's not really shallow, it's funny, and it is still funny as a chinese person, there was nothing in the video that insulted chinese ppl, instead it showed how comical chinese ppl are.

  • Whatever, this video really funny, everything is in good humor...

  • Nanjing.

  • wtf, where did you get this, can you give me a reliable source?

  • excellent job. Soley based on your episode here I feel closer to relating to the Chinese people. Thanks for your work.

  • The reason why they cannot pronounce your name is that your name is toooo long for them:)

about why many people have funny english name ^o^ cz Enlish teachers prefer to give everyone a english name in middle school~ although maybe you don't like the name~~

And, many teachers, jz use nouns to name. I think they jz wanna help students to remeber words and have fun. but those are not really good name however....

  • China announced the OUTRIGHT BAN on bringing foods/medicals/water into both Olympic village and arena. Many countries that will participate in Beijing Olympics planned to bring foods/medicals/water into China during Olympics because they are seriously concerned about the security of food-safety in China. The world has already realized how dangerous Chinese-made foods are. China is NOT qualified to host OLYMPICS. BOYCOTT BEIJING OLYMPICS!!

  • agree!

  • Agreed. Chinese are trying to take over this world by poisoning everybody else. The only living things left in this world will eventually be Chinese and cockroaches.

  • well that simply means that we have to properly dispose of your corpses so that we wouldn't have a cockroach rampage on our hands

  • well, china is trying her best to change the situation,i believe in her,and i hope she will make a great progress and gain more attention from the world.

  • no they are not...you guys are such racists.

  • two atomic bombs that liberated the world from the Japanese. Please speak with kindness and study your history for I know that in Japan there is a lack of truth about history in their school systems especially when it it related to WWII. How happy do you think the Japanese people are living in tiny apartments and overpaid for everything just to keep up with the Joneses. I do not think having a high GDP make people happy.
