Upon their first encounters with wastelanders they encountered exactly what the lone wanderer did. Nothing but murderous raiders and mutants. Deciding that for the greater good the wastes need to be cleansed they acted. If their plans were ever unopposed the wastes truly would be a better, albeit emptier place.

@c0mbineelite Without the Enclave the best chance for a restored America lies with the Brotherhood of Steel who are so xenophobic and cloistered that it will never come to pass. HUNDREDS of people are beaten, enslaved, murdered, robbed, or worse on a daily basis in the wastes. The genocide that Eden presents pails in number compared to the hellish existence wastelanders have to look forwards to day to day. The Enclave, evil or not, are the only hope for a restored civilization in the wastelands.

@gingerdots Sure the wasteland is hell but the enclave wants the wasteland to only belong to them. Sure, horrible things happen in the wastes but simply killing everyone is much worse imo. What about Megaton or Rivet city? Those places are civilized. Should we kill them too?

And I think the point is that no group should try to 'fix' things as they'll invariably fuck up.

@c0mbineelite I can see your point, and agree that there are many civilizations in the wasteland that have risen above the base savagery that plagues the capitol as a whole. However, the Enclave does not want to take the wastes for themselves. They aim to reclaim the wastes for all humanity, NOT for alpha male deathclaws, super mutant behemoths, raiders, and other vile creatures. Had the Enclave plan been succesful, humankind would have their future secured from what they now face. Extinction.

Eden is very kind and cordial. Near the end of the game, for those of you who don't know, Eden's robots kill lots of human Enclave soldiers. So he's a good guy (or computer, lol).

@hotdogman67 Actually when you get down to it, at that point in the game it is the Human Enclave who are the good guys. Eden orders you to infect Project Purity with a virus that would essentially wipe out the wasteland of all life. Colonel Autumn knew about this and so he goes against the President's orders. In order to ensure that the virus gets delivered Eden has the Enclave robots attack human soldiers. He really only cares about seeing his plan come to fruition.

I am quite disappointed on the creators of fallout to have exempted the option of allying with the Enclave. It also seems that the whole construction of the enclave was meant to deride pre-war values and furnish the Enclave as "evil". It's a real shame that in fallout 3 you're not allowed to side with eden and switch to the enclave and destroy the brotherhood in broken steel, and take the position of eden's right hand man.

@RosterAlbert Not really. Both sides have the same goal, just different ways of doing it. And even with this said, the Brotherhood in Fallout 3 isn't following the actual goal for the whole BOS. Their actual goal is just to colect technology and basiacally say screw the wastelanders. Elder Lyons just defies these orders. So basically neither side is good.The Enclave want to restore America, but they think that to reach their they must kill everyone who is either radiated or are a threat.
