  • The lyrics are similar to but not copied from the Beatles 'Getting Better'.

" I used to be cruel to my woman I beat her and kept her away from the things that she loved.

Man I was mean but I'm changing my scene and I'm doing the best that I can"

  • This song is so true.

  • @Skiffington & nmorgan346 : I've checked cos I have a very detailed REM biography and the Jam's song was released nearly 1 year before REM wrote 1,000,000 (summer 1981 ; it was released in 1982) so even though I'm a very big REM fan I must admit Peter Buck could have stolen the riff or it's a coincidence (the rest of the song, vocals,...is different)

  • Great song great Jam

  • Great song, but I hate the drums on it

  • the main riff sounds exactly like REM's 1,000,000 released the same year (I think)...musical coïncidence or plagiarism ?

  • @NickJunoJr the jam rip off REM.... get a grip ....

  • @NickJunoJr The Jam album was released in 1980 & the REM album Dead Letter Office was recorded between 1981 - 1986 and released in 1987 so I'm afraid you're wrong about plagiarism

  • @NickJunoJr no sorry mate this was much earlier

  • @rebeltaby : that's what i'm saying you know : The Jam's song was written before REM's one, so it's a steal from Buck (REM) or coïncidence...

  • BEST modish BAND EVER

  • Great song, great band

  • Brings back some great memories....... Christ i feel old....

  • Gets my heart racing!

  • Great song, great riff...

  • Super super song. Fuckin love it...

  • Great leap by Foxton - really underrated as a musician, lost a bit of credibility for Modern World album, but he didn't want to be a writer! Thanks for great memories

  • Great track. Sound Affects was (is still) a top album.

  • Reminiscent of the 60's with their own unique styling added to the mix.

  • Thanks - changed it

  • @nmorgan346, nice t see a new Jam post up mate. Nice one. Oh and it's "BUT I'm Different Now" by the way.
