To anyone watching this video : Question >>> Does anyone know who where the two backup lady singers that I see to the left of Olivia Newton John on the stage ? Just curious
What A Babe, and what Great music she sang in the 70's and 80's ! This song always reminds me of the road from Sacramento to Reno while travelling back and forth on a job site. We always heard this song
she is so mesmerizing......her voice is alluring and her smooth skin and beautiful eyes have me captivated...woman of any mans dreams...u got it all olivia.....
She is a natural, N lipsinking here. She came out when to make it in rock or any type music, you better sound good, no voice over, or weird dance moves while getting busted, great job!!!!!!!
staggeringly talented. ONJ blows away lame posers like miley cyrus, britney spears and katy perry. tools like that cant even sing. they produce audio garbage and their music is at best, TALENTLESS NOISE. ONJ, however, was amazing. she ALWAYS picked the right songs to sing & her vocal ablity & perfect pitch was legendary. she was/is one of the best female vocalists of my generation. she made REAL music, not auto tune (c)Rap, hip hop filth or or todays trash that passes for music
This version clips the intro which I always liked. The song was right behind "Another Brick in the Wall Part 2" and "Call Me" on the pop charts in 1980. What makes the song work is the way it's lush yet has a stripped down yet strong rock beat, leaving room for a great tune that just flows out of your speakers. Olivia is as confident and breezy as ever. Kids, this is what a great record sounds like: solid studio gloss without auto-tune and brain-dead rap, +Real guitars, real bass, real drums.

Total enrapture! 3 days this tune has been inside my head. I'm singing this when I do yard work,at work and at home. So many chord changes and the bass line is killer. The harmonics of the guitar work cannot be ignored. I'm on my 4th day. i CANNOT sleep without this being in my head, all of the time. What's wrong? I'll play it again... I've been brain washed, here. I cannot stop. I need therapy.
My friends look at me weirdly. "What?,You like this?" "No,I'm obsessed". !Death Rock! I'm sick.
What a beautiful voice and song! You have to believe she is magic, nothing can stand in her way! They don't have singers like her or songs like this anymore, just the Rapp crap and Techno trash.
Remains one of the most beautiful songs I've ever heard.
The guitar chords are brilliant. The melody devised for the song is equally brilliant. The backup band is tight, and a live performance of the song is pretty damn close to what was done in the studio.
Brilliant. .
Footnote:
I saw ONJ on her 1st TV appearance in the US. It was on "The Smothers Brothers".in the '60's. She was abt 20yrs old.
With her looks and her voice I KNEW THEN that she was going to be a huge hit in the US someday.
No auto-tune, no looping, no drum machines, no sequencers. Just raw talent, great songwriting and flawless performance. Say what you want about the 70's and 80's, but at least there were great musicians. There aren't many like ONJ in today's crop of so-called "stars". I think kids know it too...look at all the great performers still touring in their 60's to sold-out crowds....
@snakehunter1964 I haven't watched TV for a long, long time, so I'll have to take you at your word :-) What's scary is that some commercials have better music now than what you get on some albums....

@nancydrew5: Yep; hip-hop is a bit like what we used to call "musique concrete", which used pieces of tape spliced together to make music (now I'm really showing my age). You need good material to start with to make anything worth listening to. Sitting here in my office listening to Fleetwood Mac.... :-)

@mdmeadway Funny, back when I was a teen in the 80's, our parents used to say similar things comparing artists of the 80's with those of the 50's and 60's, including the fact that music stars from their time were still popular and touring in the 80's. ^_~

As a dedicated Smothers Brothers viewer I clearly remember ONJ's American TV debut on the Smothers Brothers TV show. With her looks (at perhaps around 20 years old), and her voice, I KNEW THEN she was going to be "REALLY big", as Ed would say.
The music to "Magic" is beautiful, and wonderfully performed by this particular backup band. The guitar chord changes are.absolutely unique and the melody of the song fits perfectly. Whatever you think of ONJ, this composition is beautiful.

@NestorV THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU!!! :) i was hoping somebody else agreed with me on that! they could've at least used the original! hell, that's what they do on those silly Swiffer commercials! that's the sad thing about it. some of these commercials have actually almost made me hate these songs i used to love!! and all for what?? marketing!! :(
@djmixnmagic something huge did happen a month after i got this video sent to me in a dream that definitely changed my life... but the way it happened was horrible... i inherited a huge amount of money from a very close relative.. don't know if the dream was linked but i do think all of it is part of whats happeneing now in my life
@djmixnmagic it happened right before they started showing the ads on TV .. i thought the ads were part of the whole msg some1 was trying to send me... plus it happened right when i def could've used some help from this side or the other.. i was in the middle of doing something i never done before that was gonna make a lot of big things happen in my life..
@djmixnmagic the freakiest thing about it is the really bright dark pink and purple colors coming off of the TV screen just like in this video.. thats all i could really remember when i woke up singing it... the song and the colors.. that was weird enough.. waking up singing it w/o knowing the lyrics... thats why i came to check to see if the video had those colors in it at all..
@djmixnmagic ...and when i played it on here and the same colors flashed it felt like i was standing right back infront of the exact same TV in the dream... the exact same video that i've never seen before.. the pink/purple colors are a huge part of this video and theres no way i would know that unless somebdy had actually showed me this exact video... i've never seen in real life
the weirdest shit... this video was shown to me in a dream... woke up singing it and didn't know the words at all.. all i saw was a TV with the exact same hot pink and purple colors on it and the song playing... the exact same video... no way i would know what the video looked like because this song is old as hell... dont know the lyrics and never seen the video before... the words in it are def a message to me from some1 on the otherside.. .some crazy shit i kno
@StatusBaddest May be the power of subliminal advertising... This song is used in some of the Old Navy commercials, and it may have hooked itself into your subconscious.
However, I prefer to think, like yourself, that it's a message from beyond: "And if all your hopes survive, your destiny will arive..."
@MrMixbegood I wouldn't be here unless I liked ONJ. Lady GaGa doesn't need to use voice effects even though she does sometimes (it happened in the 70's and 80's too for different vocal effects that made it sound cool..) Would you check out GaGa's acoustic stuff like poker face and tell me what you think? I hope you like it.
@stevegoldman1 I must agree, I went nuts trying to rememeber this song....the music from Labyrinth made this song come out in the back of my head...this has a similiar feel to the dream sequence in Labyrinth. The notes in the background or something. Great Music.
@stevegoldman1 It's magic! There's a hypnotic sway to the song. The thing that gets me is the unassuming strings that don't appear in the first round of the chorus, but do in the following ones in differing arrangements. They very gently lift the song, and let it take flight. Magical...
I love her first ah ah ah..seriously she was and still is a lovely girl, my Mum would have loved me to bring her home, rather than the rat staggled things i did..are you listening A Wilson
one of the Greatest songs ever in any sort.just the pure genius Olivia her Magic sweet charm takes the front center stage.beauty with the voice.huge hit it was the start of the 80s tho.excellent video what more can u say.Backing her up in the band would of been cool.Drums.Guitars or Keyboards.those guys cool
brings back memories of childhood listening to my sister trying to sing like Olivia, Laura Branigan, Expose, etc..I knew all the words by heart...had to, I was her back-up singer..Great times with my older sis...
She was and still is a goddess !!!! if you buy her new version of Magic from i tunes, all proceeds go to the Olivia Newton John Cancer and Wellness Centre a hospital she is building too try and rid this planet of Cancer. Well worth the $ 1.79. She really is an angel.
Hmmmmm Olivia, one of my guilty pleasures and oh how i pleasured!!!!

One of favorite songs from Olivia.
I thought she looked great in Zanadu, unfortunately the movie wasn't so great.

@stevegoldman1 I must agree, I went nuts trying to rememeber this song....the music from Labyrinth made this song come out in the back of my head...this has a similiar feel to the dream sequence in Labyrinth. The notes in the background or something. Great Music.

I got tired of checking to see who said what and the comments posted after. LOL Give it a rest guys.
Anyways, she is gorgeous and has the prettiest eyes I've ever seen.
This song is beautiful and I could listen to it over and over again.
BTW, Grease rules. Never gets old!!

@stevegoldman1 It's magic! There's a hypnotic sway to the song. The thing that gets me is the unassuming strings that don't appear in the first round of the chorus, but do in the following ones in differing arrangements. They very gently lift the song, and let it take flight. Magical...

whatever you were into; rock / pop / soul / reggae / funk etc, sounded great!!
there was so much diversity in the charts. now we just have pop tarts (male & female) singing music that sounds the same - whoever it is.
back in the '80s, I can even recall hearing 'magic' being played in a cinema between films!!
