  • @wingchangwow that's some good shit yo

  • damn i wish this guy was my chemistry teacher

  • hey can you make a video explaining the science behind the Steel ball in aerosol cans like in spraypaint

  • shit, 70,000$ a gram

  • Great lab tip, really very helpful. :D

  • in fact.....there is an app for that :)

  • @StivenAliaj ... wa--wa--what? XD

  • @NurdRage Actually I'm afraid if i use a smaller pipette to seal my chemicals the air inside the ampoule would expand and blow it up. Also is there any way to seal low boiling point liquid inside? I tried once but before the pipette is fully sealed the liquid just boil away and crack the pipette.

  • @joechuph1261 You could try settinf the pipette into water deep enough to cover the chemicals inside. That should divert a lot of the heat from your chemicals. If thats not enough and also for your LBP liquids try dipping the pipette into liquid nitrogen before sealing.

  • Where did you get that torch :O

  • Comment removed

  • Very useful indeed, but how do you get it back out? I'm sort-of a beginner...

  • @firewing33 you score the glass with a file, and then snap it off.

  • What kind of torch do you use?

  • Can anyone refer me to a reliable multi-purpose torch?

  • @RobotNixon1820

I got a butane torch from Amazon.

  • i tried this ust now using an old dropper but failed to seal it correctly... the iodine escaped :( oh well that was a practise :)

  • I took the QR code in 1080p and scanned it. It says EXACTLY what's on the label.

  • @CrappedATriangle Only the included info was P-totyl type

  • but what about gases

  • all comments looked like they were typed by a 10 year old...

  • Nice info, NR! Thanks for the upload!

  • Does this also set up a vacuum inside the tube after it cools to help prevent oxidizing small amounts of material with the internal air? Could that same vacuum harm some chemicals??

Thank You and have a Happy New Year NurdRage.

Your one of my coolest subscriptions.

  • sweet thanks. i once bought fart bombs from a prank store in a glass ampule. what the heck was in the fart bomb that it needed to be put in an ampule??

  • Cool

  • what lighter is that?

  • Why does it sound like you used a voice changer and lowered the pitch of your voice?

  • @langhalsen Because then robots from the future will come back in time to stop his global domination

  • Thank you for great videos

  • u sir, r a beast

  • So no annealing is necessary here? This was really helpful - are you planning on doing any more glassworking videos?

  • Can you make a video on how to make sodium or potassium hydroxide?

  • @12414666 He already has one on NaOH.

  • does that complex contain a molybdopterin by any chance?

  • @derflop it contains a molybdopterin-like site, but its not true molybdopterin. Its more of a fluorinated bis-dithiolene with an additional thiolate ligand.

  • @NurdRage and that... made me realize that i'm very, very, stupid.

  • @NurdRage just curious, what is it used for??

  • Oh please, this is the third time this night i got the nokia ad!

  • 100 000 subscribers!

  • hey rage remember the change copper into silver and gold can you change a quarter or a piece of silver into gold imma newb to chemistry

  • good job men ;)

  • What is the secert to Ball Joint Vacum Glassware? There are so many sizes. From 12/2, 12/5,28/15, even a 50/30? Is there a "Most common size" used in US or Application Stanards.

I would like to go to next level and set up a wall mount system in my home for basic chemistry.

Soaps, Moonshine, Aqua Regia, Gasoline etc. Signed Confused but on right track.

  • but by using this method the air that is trapped inside the vile will contaminate the chemicals

  • @Forget29it replace the air with an inert gas before stealing.

  • @NurdRage Is there a possibility for you to show how this is achieved?

  • @NurdRage How do you replace the air with inert gas inside the pipette? I'm assuming you can't do this in a glovebox due to lack of oxygen for the flame, but would an argon funnel be sufficient?

  • @NurdRage dont you mean sealing

  • @NurdRage I hope you mean sealing.

  • Cool idea.

  • Congratulations for getting 100,000 subscribers!

  • Even the fictional Unobtanium for the movie "Avatar" is cheaper than that Oxotransferase Complex. They said that Unobtanium is $20,000,000 a kilogram, yet that is only $20 a milligram. This would be $70,000,000 a kilogram.

  • hey it would be cool if we could get a tour of your lab :)

  • Manufacturers use those for stink bombs.

  • Hello, just asking what do u use organometallic for? and what is it. I never seen this yellow stuff.. I tried to look up but sound like its for bond metal some kind...

  • I was able to scan the QR code with my phone from the computer screen :) i love technology

  • @kaylor87 I read your comment and went straight to do it, freaking awesome!

  • Hey man, what kind of torch is that? Could you message me a link or something?

  • why does it says oxotransferase and below benzene solvate? is it an enzime crystalized in a benzene solvate? (i guess i just answered myself but i want a confirmation lol)

  • Great for storing my crystaline MDMA!

  • QR code....

  • Does that upper neck section break off cleanly like on a real ampoule? I would be afraid it would explode completely down the whole length and the sample would go everywhere.

  • @10mintwo Shattering is an issue with a cheap ampoule like this. To greatly minimize shattering and get a clean break it helps to score the ampoule with a glass cutter or file before you snap it.

  • The first time I opened a bottle of acetone d6 for NMR I sliced my finger open. Now I wrap the bottle before cracking the seal.

  • This also works with disposable plastic pipettes. A hot air gun works best but I've done it with a lighter; keep it back a bit. Fill pipette, tip back (to fill bulb & empty stem), warm tip.

Once the plastic goes soft, squash the tip of the pipette shut with a pair of pliers.

I have a pipette of mercury I play with like a set of rosary beads.

Also keep in mind, the 99%+ of youtubers at home do not have access to a dry box or line; there's not much point him demonstrating that.

  • Thats an oxotransferase. How can you crystalize an enzyme?

  • I just realized you've done this in the old complete refillable glow stick video, but thanks for providing the full details here! This is really useful to know!

  • $70/mg is cheap compared to some primary analytical standards (esp sports drug testing!). I haven't ever seen a pipette used this way, I've always used them for micro-flash columns (and pipetting, obviously) and I love this idea!

  • $70 per milligram?!?! What metal is it, osmium? Iridium? And what ligands are on it?

  • theres alot of stupid questions on this one. lol

  • Looks like DMT...

  • What kind of torch where you using?

  • sweet. im gonna put my cocaine in these!

  • Isn't the whole point of this , to seal it under inert atmosphere? Like in a glove box? So doing this in open air seems like a huge waste of time.

  • @cyberdemon107 then attach a rubber hose with a vac/schlenk line and put it under inert atmosphere before you seal.

Also some chemicals like alkali metals tolerate a bit of air and corrode a little but completely react if continually exposed to air. Sealing them prevents further corrosion.

Your poorly thought out criticism for a narrowly defined problem seems like a huge waste of time.

  • @NurdRage i see your point....either this option or let it corrode away....

hope you live on the beach....

    free storage...!!

  • @NurdRage

cyberdemon107? You just got nurd pwned biatch!

  • @cyberdemon107 I think i agree with that, and by no means is it sterile. Sterile medications often come in ampules like these.

  • i used to make ampoules like you, but then i took an arrow to the knee

  • 70,000 per gram....thats insane

  • my lab supervisor in college gonna love this :)

she always complains about lab budget ^^

  • Do you have any recommendations for making a glass ampule with an inert atmosphere?

  • when your making the ampule, isnt there a risk that the hot gases from the flame might interact with what ever you put in it?

  • @wazscience i don't think the heat gets to the chemical inside

  • @wazscience its long and narrow enough that as long as you hold it properly away from the flame it won't reach the chemical. Obviously you have to think about what your doing and not point the flame inside.

  • @NurdRage Your voice sound funny.

  • @MegaPrincess1998 It's because the voice is fake.

  • what is the point of a qr code of the text it's sitting next too...

  • @Berelore The text is for the chemist to read, the code is for the computer inventorying system to read.

  • @NurdRage

Ah that makes sense. Thanks for the videos, I love them.

  • @Berelore If for any reason that stupid QR code gets damaged in ANY way, (a tear, a smudge, whatever) it will not work anymore. Having the text to type in in case that should happen is vital. Even the basic UPC codes that your grocery store uses has a text version underneath just in case.

  • What kind of research are you doing with complexes?

  • Did you make the complex yourself, or did you buy it off the internet?

  • I missed

    "Please subscribe, rate and comment"

    :D

  • I like NurdRage's channel

  • @rockstar12201

    Good for you.

  • Really awesome!

  • The name of that thing is called Hexaphenylhexaphosphinane >__>

  • @CrASYmUZIk and what is it used for? I t has to be worth it's prize somehow.

  • wait a minute! Isn't there more likes than views... O.o

  • woah 70$/mg you my friend got a lot of free time

  • have you been messing around with the Sulfur Hexafluoride agaien?

  • was that DMT?

  • Wich complex is it?

  • now i can store my aqua regia and throw it at people in school

    Nerd

    *shatter*

    "my eyes"

    me snicker

  • i need to open one of those. i had an old thermostat that used mercury on wound metal so when it shrunk and tilted it would roll down and make contact with 2 filaments. btw, any cool stuff i can do with mercury?

  • I get to mess around with these in year 2 pharmacy in the UK, it' plenty of fun :)

  • For those who can't scan the qr code:

  • Is it possible that heating up the gas/air can cause reactions with the chemicals inside?

  • Still think QR codes on lables is the future.

  • @nodariel That's where they originated from- they were created as an inventory tracking method by an automotive company. I agree that we'll see that or barcode or some similar technology become dominant in the future, but it originates from the past.

  • LMAO it costs more than marijuana XD

  • I remember seeing this in one of your glowstick videos...

I myself had some problems opening those with my bare hands... Is the pipete glass any thicker? And if so, does that make it harder/easier to break?

Great and helpfull tutorial, by the way!

  • Nice trick

  • Nice video. :)

However, I'd recommend more flameworking on the sealed end. Those seals are more likely to break as they're thick glass beads connected to a thin wall. Plus, they're asymmetric. While cooling, stresses occur and that's the very spot where crack will form.

After the tip is melted and it forms a bead, it should be touched with a rod or another ampoule, pulled out a bit and broken and reduced by flame. You'll get a symmetrical seal with no extra glass and it will be very sturdy.

  • @endimion17 could you elaborate on this process further? What do you mean by "touched," and "reduced" (reduced in the sense of redox?) Thanks

  • @GetOffOfAIM Of course. You simply touch the molten part with a glass rod and it sticks. Then you pull it outwards slightly and use flame to break it apart. Then you heat the extruded glass piece with flame so it shrinks in size, hence being reduced. Of course, you have to rotate the thing all the time, otherwise it sags. Flameworking basics. :)

  • @endimion17 thank you.

  • Is the air in the Ampule burnt out while you were sealing it?

  • @ki11bi77 It shouldn't get burnt out but the pressure when the whole thing cools will be low.

  • Just to know , and if we can know. What's the formula of that uber-expensive stuff and what's that used for =o?

  • Can you do this with heat sensitive compounds as well? Also, does the heat from the torch purge all the air from the pipette?

  • owww i get it mg=miligrams xD *sad face*

  • mg=magnezium?

  • @MrGome120 $70 per milligram is probably what he meant.

  • Can you do witchcraft with those chemicals?

  • use the qr code to see what the substance is!

  • LOL it looks like DMT!

  • Nurdrage is back. Yes!

  • 70$/mg!? Why it is that expensive??

  • @TheArzonite , cause in a more common measurement e.g. 100 g of this is 7 million dollars. (even if you would never use that many, just for the comparison)

  • @kristofarkas He's not asking for a conversion from mg to g and price comparison, he (and I) want to know what this exactly is and why the hell it's so expensive.

  • @shadow6490 yep

  • @shadow6490 Tired but got no where

  • how to do you print those bar codes!!!!!

  • Great vid. Post more!

  • Woooooohhhhh D8 toluene from Sigma ! No water peak for me thank you !

  • OH NO, you didn't say "please subscribe rate and comment". -_-

  • @Bryan6446 LOL That's what I though xD

  • Cool

  • Cool! Where can buy real ampoules though?

  • @nickbhalo Ask your pharmacyst for a list of companies. Ampoules are very cheap, but you can't buy a few of them. You have to buy like hundred of them in one box, so that can sometimes be expensive for a young home chemist.

  • Greetings fellow Nurds!! \o/

  • I think you made this video just because of your new camera.

  • i dont know u can use pipettes out of glas to make some vials. Thx!

  • You should do a video on making cheap capillary tubes...

  • I'm glad to see that I'm not the only one to cheap out and store precious compounds and cultures in Pasteur pipettes...

  • Are you using any database/software for your repository management?

Could you please make a short video about it?

& I just wish I had such chemistry teachers in my school years... I newer thought I would love to watch some chemistry videos,

but since I found your channel I do :)

  • show us how to make some of that oxotransferase complex. is there a black market for this sort of thing? :D

  • That was really interesting.

  • nice

  • why do you warp your voice?

  • @TheCapturetheBomb a lot of the videos he's uploaded show you how to make things that could be very dangerous if miss-used. *certain people* would rather he was added to a database or something. Other people might have him fired from whatever job he has. All very valid reasons to disguise your voice.

  • @therealquade everything is dangerous if misused. this is chemistry - and information and knowledge should be shared. cheers to nurdrage!

  • @therealquade If they want, *certain people* will already know his blood type. Forget it, there's no privacy on the Internet.

He's (they're?) simply protecting himself from other, less powerful people, perhaps his employer, though I doubt that. He simply wants privacy. Everyone should respect it and just stop asking silly questions about his voice.

  • @endimion17 her voice

  • @MrSmudger687 Whatever. I come here to watch interesting videos about chemistry. If I want to look at someone's sexual characteristics, I'll go to a porn site... or open up anatomy textbook.

  • @MrSmudger687 It's a guy - people have met him and YES his voice sounds like that. I've met people with even deeper voices. Holy hell man, it's NOT a conspiracy.

  • @endimion17 and then it turns out. He/she doesn't change their voice at all... thats just the normal voice.

  • @therealquade No, I won't participate in creating another mindless meme.

Just look at the fucking videos and learn something.

  • I am so thankful to you. Thanks a lot for uploading such wonderful videos. I just love the stuff you upload. Your knowledge is very good in chemistry and I am amazed by it. Keep going. My best wishes are with you.

    Thanks again.

  • @nurdrage Aldrich? Do you have a business license?
