I owned a 90 TSi AWD and I currently own a 1987 GN. A very good friend owns a modified 2006 STI. It is silly to compare these cars, BUT the GN is a drag racing beast. You can keep the AWD on the straight. The GN is a much better daily driver too. It cruises much nicer than the STI or the modded TSi I had (both have heavy clutches). I would not want the Buick on a twisty track, but I never drive on a road course or even on twisty roads. I'll never sell the GN but I want an AWD turbocharged car.

I like both cars. The GN's are awesome, Ive owned one. The AWD Evos are a monster off the line. Im even thinking about getting a WRX or STI. Love the boxer sound. The Evos have the I-4's with the intercooler in front where it should be tho..
If you're looking for more performance go with the evo. I've been down this road and back again. Despite what critics say, the evo is more reliable. If you're a mechanic the subi is childs play to work on. Don't get a wrx. Get the STI if you do get a subi. WRX isn't even on the level of an evo or STI.

The only thing that really makes the GN better in a straight line is the much larger engine. And for an engine that is as small as a soda bottle, the Evo keeps up just fine. And although I would rather have a GN more than an older evo, I would have to say the evo is overall a much better car. Better mileage, better track times, and so on.
@yooloop Yeah, but the GN also weighs much more than an EVO so the v6 that GM rated at a measly 187 hp just doesn't seem like much to contend against. I mean the EVO was built to be a sophisticated race car while the GN was an experiment by Buick. It wasnt even considered a muscle car. Plus the EVO is expensive (33to40k) and gets worst gas mileage 15 and 20 highway. For the price of an EVO I could buy 3 GNs or a GT 5.0 Mustang or even a Corvette which are all of better values.

Just to clarify this, the GN was mine. The evo had ported head, 264 cams, BW S256 turbo, built trans, methanol and was at 25-28psi. My GN was a stock LSx truck motor with a cam and 75mm turbo. Stock 4l80 and stock 1800rpm tq converter. We left even and my GN was a pig out of the hole, and when it came on boost it spun and went into 2nd, thats why i was behind. We raced again and i pull 4+cars by the end of the 1/4. My car ran consistant low 11s@125+ with 10psi, pump gas, no intercooler
The (mitsu) evo sound like it about to blow-up. must be trying to hard with that Chinese toy (toyota)...LOL. What mod does the gn have? sound stock. Plus the evo is a true BOX. the wind resistance is hurting its trap speed. FUCK a evo (rice).
The TR's are the cheapest cars to get in the 11's I have ever seen. There are stock block 3.8 cars running 8's like anything else. You just don't want to accept that a buick v6 will kick your car's ass!
It took me around $1100 to get a setup to take my car into the 11s, with stock turbo.(22-23lbs of boost).
I upgraded my turbo and ended up blowing a head gasket. So I went ahead and got ported heads and had the intake ported. Unfortunately, when the heads were replaced, something got disturbed and I'm getting false knock, so it might be a while before I get it fixed and dialed in. I would image my combo should easily get me into the low 11s.

No head work, no intercooler, just pump gas and a little boost. The v6 was making about 425whp when it let go. Plus this was alot cheaper than building the v6. Dumbass

you have to be one of the biggest dumbasses that has ever commented on one of my vids. Of course the v8 has more potential. BTW, stock bottom end LS1s have been way way into the 9's. Hell bone stock 5.3s have been into the 9's. And you cannot get a stock bottom end 3.8 out of the 10's, not possible. A forged, GN1 heads with 70mm turbo and FAST system, plus building the 200r4 with converter to compete with this would be $10k+, so yes its alot cheaper.
BTW, i have about $7500 in this setup, for everything- engine, trans, turbo, tuning software, converter (now) driveshaft, fuel system, etc. Plus i got $3k for the v6 stuff, so i only have $4500 total invested. A set of pistons and rods ($1100 total) and this entire drivetrain will take 1000+hp. So the v6 aint got jack shit on it. Get a fuckin clue you idiot.

Why wouldn't you put an intercooler on it? I know they are not an absolute necessity, but I can't see a valid reason not to run one from a mechanical/performance perspective. A little bit of extra lag sure, but you'll be doing your engine a favor by further reducing the threat of predetonation.

the evo had cams, S260 something turbo, built trans, methanol, running 25psi.
The GN (mine) is a stock LS1 with a T6 75mm turbo, stock trans and converter. I cought the evo from 2 lengths back at the end.

slower? i guess that extra 200hp i picked up must fuck with the space/time shit and make it slower. Read first, the car makes around 600whp with this setup and it has nothing done to it. No head work, no intercooler, just pump gas and a little boost. The v6 was making about 425whp when it let go. Plus this was alot cheaper than building the v6. Dumbass

you have to be one of the biggest dumbasses that has ever commented on one of my vids. Of course the v8 has more potential. BTW, stock bottom end LS1s have been way way into the 9's. Hell bone stock 5.3s have been into the 9's. And you cannot get a stock bottom end 3.8 out of the 10's, not possible. A forged, GN1 heads with 70mm turbo and FAST system, plus building the 200r4 with converter to compete with this would be $10k+, so yes its alot cheaper.

BTW, i have about $7500 in this setup, for everything- engine, trans, turbo, tuning software, converter (now) driveshaft, fuel system, etc. Plus i got $3k for the v6 stuff, so i only have $4500 total invested. A set of pistons and rods ($1100 total) and this entire drivetrain will take 1000+hp. So the v6 aint got jack shit on it. Get a fuckin clue you idiot.

you are a dumbfuck. BTW, the car traps over 130mph on pump gas only, not even an intercooler, at 12psi. Its rough pulling on 650whp supras and cobras anytime you feel like it, on a completely stock motor

no shit, my v6 was running high 11s@112, with just injectors, chip, and a TE44. You think im a fucking retard? I was in the buick game for 8 years before i did this, i know what the v6 can do, which is alot. But its nothing compared to what a LSx can do, and if you dont beleive it, your dumber than i thought

Why wouldn't you put an intercooler on it? I know they are not an absolute necessity, but I can't see a valid reason not to run one from a mechanical/performance perspective. A little bit of extra lag sure, but you'll be doing your engine a favor by further reducing the threat of predetonation.
