They took what inspiration they found from Raqs Sharki and created ATS (American Tribal Style) of bellydance and Tribal Fusion. Dance, being a part of culture evolves with time. Even the great bellydances of the classical era like Samia Gamal had a different style than today's bellydancers from the middle east. Because even in the middle east the dance evolved.

Belly dancing was never ever the same, the style that we think is the most traditional and authentic form, isn't it. Bellydance always evolved over time, influenced by the women who practiced bellydance, influenced by different cultures and even another types of dancing, as the most known case: Ballet!

I can not put into words how bad this DvD is. I was -very- disappointing. I put this on my holiday wish list and was giddy when it came in the mail. Other than a few acts from one of the ladies on the cover the performances were lack luster. The video was grainy and whoever took care of their graphics should be shot. I have seen better in a high school film class. The World Dance Co. has some first rate dancers. I wish they would have been features in this DvD. I hope the follow up is better.

I have this dvd, but (with all respect) the best bellydancers are Ariellah and Asharah. They have a deep knowledge of classic bellydance, in one of the coreographies Asharah doesn't even dance "gothic", it's pure raqs sharqui and cabaret style, with old classic arabian rythms. It's like she's saying "just to show you I know what I'm doing". :)
The works are apparently eye catching... but i think, the spirit of belly dance is missing.... looks some gymnastics with belly dance type choreography...

I bought this CD to learn Belly Dance.The saving grace of the CD was that I discovered,Ariellah. This is beautiful, the costumes and such have such a different twist I love belly dancing and the"goth" idea seeing this was like a beautiful art piece.
I have personally taken classes and workshops with some of these women and can say that they take their dancing with alot of pride and passion and they are not out there for just a lousy buck. This is their life and just because you can't understand it doesn't mean you should tear somebody else's passion down.

No offence to goths, but this is horrible! Bellydancing is a sensual and very feminine exotic dance, when they bring those gothic elements in it, they just ruin the exotic art in it!

I wouldn't say that saïdi (ie a traditional bellydance) is very sensual and feminine, but maybe that's just me. Plus everyone has their idea of "sensuality".

I bought this video from amazon and was sadly disappointed. There are a few people with talent on the CD, but this one girl does some bizarre bondage/music video where the height of her dancing talent showcases her tied up on the floor. WTF?! I bought this CD to learn Belly Dance.The saving grace of the CD was that I discovered,Ariellah. I went to amazon and bought her"Contemporary Bellydance&Yoda Conditioning w/Ariella"&"Rachel Brice Bellydance Arms&posture." Rachel was Ariella's instructor.

It isnt sick. I am a dancer, I do all the styles. I just think turkish look as it is pretty to my tastes. Many of the dances overlap, therefore some even use turkish for some of their dances. It isn't dirty.

I love all styles of dance. and even if something is not necessarily your cup of tea you can still respect the artistic effort that goes into it. It always cracks me up how people who think of bellydance as "dirty"or "perverted" seem to spend all their time looking at dance clips on utube hehehehe weird way to get your jollies if you ask me

I have personally taken classes and workshops with some of these women and can say that they take their dancing with alot of pride and passion and they are not out there for just a lousy buck. This is their life and just because you can't understand it doesn't mean you should tear somebody else's passion down.
