This was one of the very few series finales where I cried. Jen was my favorite character in the show and between this scene and the scene where she and Dawson are making her goodbye video, I remember the tears just pouring down my face.
I love this scene. No big theatrics, no scene stealing/chewing, just a simple, "I'll see you soon, child...soon". I also love how there is no cheesy "death" music. Its like we are peeking into another person's life.
The more I look at it, the more I realize that this is, by far, one of the most effective death scenes I've ever seen in a movie or TV show. The camera work, the acting on both characters' parts, and the sound (or lack thereof) combine to create a powerful emotional effect.
I watch this clip every couple of months. I love it. Grams doesn't cry cos she really believes she'll be seeing Jen soon..I'd love to have that faith!
im a big tv show fan i love one tree hill, desperate housewives, heroes, the l word, ugly betty and more.. but nothing will eva top dawsons creek! it was the best!!
i`m a turkishgirl and i would like to know, who forgathers ? pacey joey or dawson joey, can somebody say it,because we have a turkish film from dawsons creek ,its called kavak yelleri .i would like to know, who get together again of the final episode
..but instead this delicate scene speaks so much more than dialogue ever could. The look Jen gives at 00:20 is so powerful it makes me cry!! Also I have to say I find Grams faith makes me so envious. After all that has happened she still has the courage to believe that she will see Jen once more...I'd love to have that faith..anyhow that is all :) :) Fav scene ever from TV
Ok I just youtube'd Terms of Endearment scene and yes it is sad! But to me this means so much more cos I am a huge DC fan. It is the story that goes with Jen and Grams that makes it so sad! They had such trouble between them but ultimately they were best friends who had unconditional love for one another..it is like Kevin Williamson could have created a big long dialogue between them to say...I'm sorry, I love you, thank you for being my mother/father/gran/best friend all in one...
Cena maravilhosa! É absurda a emoção transmitida sem que seja emitida praticamente nenhuma palavra... Até hoje me arrepio e não me canso de rever... Michelle Williams é uma verdadeira atriz, espero que um dia tenha o devido reconhecimento...
I like how Michelle Williams has a more successful film career than Katie Holmes. Jen may have died, but Joey is now a robot married to a scientology!
i agree, roro, that this was a beautiful scene for all the reasons you gave. but this scene does look somewhat reminiscent of debra winger's death scene in terms of endearment. only, she and shirley mcclain locked eyes as she passed away. i must say that THAT was the saddest death in TV history. if you haven't seen it, see if youtube has it to view.
This still makes me weep. It's the saddest death in TV history. It's even sadder if you know the history between Jen & Grams - everything that happened is defined & forgiven in that one moment! The pain on Grams face when she realises Jen has gone....tears my heart out! Such a beautiful scene.
I cried when I watched it the first time. That wasn't the part that aired, though. Right? 'cuz they were playing "Angel" by Sarah McLachlan in the show... And that song made me cry even harder.
The father of Jen's baby was in a scene with Jen's gay friend Jack & they discussed custody. The father told Jack it was in the baby's interest to stay with Jack & he told him he would sign over his rights. Am I confusing this scene with another one? I think this happened, not really sure :P
Just to shed some light on who Jen's baby's father is...it was never mentioned during the season finally, the only time you hear anything about it is when Jack is carrying her out of the bar "Did you know my boyfriend left me to raise a baby on my own". It's not clear if it was even CJ :(
Well it wasn't really clear, but after her funeral they were all gathered & Jack was talking to either his friends or his boyfriend (I can't remember) & the subject came up, I think somebody asked "which one is he" and Jack said "right there" & the camera pointed at some blonde guy in a suit sitting at a picnic table. I am pretty sure they were talking about the father, but I had never seen the guy on the show before. There might be a clip on youtube about it :)
hmm...I have the Dawson's Creek complete collection, and i have the extended version of the series finale and that never happend..I dont remember how many times i watched this episode, but lots enough to know that the only people they saw on the beach during that conversation was a little old couple who walked by when they were kissing :) But for argument sake, i will watch it all over again :)
hehe...never mind I misunderstood what you wrote :( I apolagise...I thought you were talking about the conversation they had on the beach..but I still don't remember them talking about the father of the baby :( oh well
Are you sure you're not thinking of CJ? At the end of season 6 Jen and CJ both move to New York. However, it is never indicated whether or not CJ is the father. Jen just says that "her boyfriend" got her pregnant and then left her, but never says the name of the boyfriend.

The saddest scene in the history of television.

Still getting teary today. This scene made me cry when I watched it the first time. It's perfect - no music, all quiet as it should be.
