@trenzadora it was really important for me to learn cuz im on the A circuit and i do hunter eq and braids arre soo exspensive. thank u soo much it saves me alot of money!
Braiding tips are at the Grooming Resources at the LuckyBraids website. More are on the Lucky Braids for Top Turnout Facebook page. Plus, for complete details of the braiding formula, the Lucky Braids DVD, Tool and Yarn offer everything you'll need to braid like a top pro.
Generally I recommend not charging until you are a great braider. After all, your reputation starts out of the gate. The good news is that this is not rocket science. It is a formula. With the Lucky Braids DVD and tool, you can earn it, practice it, and make stellar braids. When you are proficient at my tried-and-true formula, it is actually easier and faster to do a better job. Fun stuff. Braid on!
It depends what they are doing. I big rolly-polly dressage horse may go with 27. For a hunter or dressage horse I usually average about 37 braids. Ponies somehow work out the same as horses. More is not better. Really small braids are unstable and will twist. Unable to maintain the clean bottom line, they defeat the purpose.
your braids are beautiful! i need this video because it is so frustrating coming to the show in the morning only to find sloppy, uneven braids! can't wait to order and get started!!
This video is just a short piece of the 80 minute Lucky Braids how-to braid video that absolutely will help you learn to braid very quickly. It takes me about 35 minutes to braid manes like this.
The most important and first step is to become a great braider. There is something to the craft and the horsemanship. First off, you need to learn this very precise craft. If you have braided a lot, it can be tricky to relearn a fine motor skill. So, be ready to learn the most efficient finger form. The only source to teach you to braid like a pro is the Lucky Braids DVD Tool. Then, you can attend a clinic with me to get one-on-one coaching.
Tying the braids well means they do not loosen, stay straight, even and comfortable throughout activities.
In all honestly, then answer to your how-to question is very involved. It is not rocket science, but a very precise formula that is counter-balanced at each step. That is why I made an 80 min. video.
Oh man! If you braid luck into manes go to the AQHYA world show! Plenty of people including myself will want you to braid for them there!(: Beautiful Braids!
Hey, you can braid luck. Once you learn and practice the formula, you'll be able to relax into it and send the horse to the ring level-headed. It is a vibe. Get good and the quiet competence is contagious. Everything is clearly outlined in the DVD. Once you have the formula underway, feel free to contact me off the LuckyBraids website with questions. You'll be able to make beautiful and Lucky Braids, too!
I love this DVD, i was so scared to order it because it was exspessiv, but it's worth every penny, no joke! it teaches you exactly how to braid a mane and forelock. i always get complements on my horses manes at shows. :D thank you for putting this dvd out, it helped me alot!!
The DVD covers the french braid in the forelock, which can be adapted to the tail. In clinics I am able to address all details related to braiding tails and inserting wigs. Honestly, what I prefer to teach is how not to need fake tails. Most horses can have big tails naturally if they get the care I advocate, after having braiding 12,000 or so tails. My tail care system is outlined in detail at the Grooming Resource on my LuckyBraids website. Check it out. You may be surprised : ) Enjoy.
If you are suggesting braiding over insead of under, that looks nice, but has more surface area. Hence, more wispies. This system is counterbalanced at each step of the process for sturdy, even, durable braids. They are anchored to maintain a perfectly clean bottom line all day. And, I think it fair to say this system has ironed out the technique, maximizing the effect. You are welcome to call 781 665 5988 for more information.
What is the name of the first braid you did on this video?
I'm extremely curious, i picked up the basic idea of doing another braid on the opposite side from the video and that the looping looks similar to that of a flat, but if you can provide the name that would be WONDERFUL! THANK YOU!!
I go wherever people get clinics organized. If you want more information on how to host a clinic, please visit the LuckyBraids website. If you want to attend but are not in a position to run a clinic, perhaps your local tack shop or barn will sponsor one for you. Where there is a will, there is a way! I hope to work with you soon. Sincerely, Ruthann
Theses braids are perfectly acceptable for hunters jumpers, dressage and driving. In fact, they are the going fashion because they most effectively compensate for irregularities in the top and hair lines to make the neck look longer and rounder.
Wow!! How do you do that? It Looks the hardest thing in the world. my Pony has a double sided mane and its really long, Any tips on How to braid that?
It has said that I braid luck into manes. Really, it is about handling the horse in a way to instill confidence and get him relaxed so he can focus to do his job. After all, big hearts win!
Many also recognize that braiding is a good time to gel with the horse before competing. Peter Wylde was third in the world and still braided his own jumpers. Braiding was part of his winning program.
Next time i get a chance im going out to buy the DVD! i also admire your ability to respond so calmly to the rude commenters on here with brilliant grammar aswell! =D
I teach braiding in my area and hanging your tools on a string around your neck is a lot more convenient than using a braiding apron. I always have to dig around in the stupid pockets for things.
Braiding is one of the oldest art forms. It's beautifully displayed on a horse.
She does a good job. It really doesn't hurt the horse much; horses don't have many nerves in their manes. It can annoy them, however. This is why you are supposed to grab the horses mane instead of the saddle horn when you are mounting. It doesn't really hurt them.
Horses do tell you if they are uncomfortable. They rub! Horses don't generally rub my braids. The hair the pressure is even. And, the braids are small enough. Most people braid dirty manes and that make horses rub. I developed a shampoo that makes braiding a clean mane easy. And, most importantly, horses do not have nerve endings on their hairs like people. Pulling the hair can actually be relaxing. So, learn a proven formula and enjoy gorgeous braids. Your horse will, too!
this video doesn't show in detail how to pull the braids through. can you explain? how do you pull the braids through and tie them so they don't come out?
You could braid this fast! It is just a formula. Like equitation, if your fingers are in the proper position, it is easy to balance to the next movement. That is how braiding can be fast without cramping. And, I know several braiders who twist almost twice that speed. So, check out my how-to video and tool. And, if you join my mail list, I'll send you tips and let you know when I am in Australia. It is just a matter of time. So, please check out LuckyBraidsDOTcom Thanks!
Incidentally, most braiders I know don't have horses. Braiding serves as a great way to be involved with horses without the overhead. For me, braiding offers me the best part of horses. At night, they are on their own time. And, the vibe is very different. I find it very grounding.
I've braided countless famous horses, though I have been teaching more than braiding for a while. My favorite star was Monoco, the first US dressage horse to medal in the Olympics. Others include: Gem Twist, Roxdene, Starman, Wadyasay, Tindle, Nonetheless, Kissmenot, etc. While those horses are all retired, I can say I braided for Mclain Ward, Molly Ashe, Candice King, Alison Firestone, Peter Wylde, George Morris, Jeffery Welles, Michael Matz, Jimmy Fairclough (world driving champ), etc.
Roaching the mane, shaving it all off, makes things more difficult. First, there is nothing to help shake the flies off or hold onto. Plus, the mane grows back as thick wire. Totally unmanageable. Today we braid to create an optical illusion. The clean bottom line of the braids compensates for irregularities in the horse's conformation. The neck looks long and round. More beautiful! Nothing like a gorgeous job. It earns the judges respect, indicating you are competent. Ready to win.
I did make a DVD and Tool system so you can learn to do it well. This is not rocket science. It is a formula. Learn the formula and you can braid any horse well. Lucky Braids DVD shows you each step up close, slowly, builds and repeats. The tool is specialized for speed and safety to go fast and get braids even. So, you can learn and do each step accurately. Plus, it speaks to your inclinations, optimizing your learning curve for perfectly uniform braids quickly with no cramped hands.
I promise my hands were shot in real time. Unfit, I had not braided in 8mos. Many pro braiders work 30 percent faster, often doing 40 perfect braids in 30 minutes.
