@Declanisanoperator The song is about the Book of Genesis, Chapter 4. In this chapter Cain kills his brother Abel, This is know in Christianity and Judaism as the first murder ever. The band's name is also taken from that chapter when God says that the death of Abel will be "Avenged Sevenfold". I hope that answers your question.

@norge40 The basic story you're telling is correct. A few parts of what you're saying is just very flawed though. In Genesis, God never says Abel's death will be "avenged" at all. He says anyone who attempts to harm Cain for killing Abel, will be "avenged seven times over". He is speaking of Lemech specifically. It's in Genesis 4:24 in the King James Version it goes like this; "If Cain shall be avenged sevenfold, truly Lamech seventy and sevenfold." I know I'm nit picking, but I enjoy it ;)
