This scene in particular is essentially the summation of what was shown thoughout the series, of the many different kinds of love shown by pretty much every single charachter in the show, and how it brought them both hardship and sacrifice. Come to think of it, pretty much every charachter in the entire series was motivated to do the things they did because they loved someone else (except cuiniang's jerk of a father, and the snake demon XD). I never actually thought about that before this.
It's frustrating that you have to really watch to show fully to truly appreciate things like this. "From the Sky", or as I like to call it "Seven of the Sky" is a great show not only for the story but for the epic idea of a mortal man fighting his way up through to the celestial realm to challenge the gods themselves. I know there have been other stories like this but the mythology of the chinese series, as well as the final outcome (nobody spoil it!) really has to be seen.
