This album is still amazing, even though it lacks a great deal of Therion's infamous tonal shifts, reserving them for the end of the songs they do appear on.
@dxdx461 That's exactly my opinion. Mats is a great singer and Son of the Sun, Son of the Staves of Time, Thor and Cults of the Shadow are really made for him but in this case Snowy shows what he's able to and I really like it...
Btw: Of course it sounds like Phantom of the Opera, every song that has an opera voice in it sounds like it... (danger: irony inside)
in my opinion, there are some good songs on this album, like u.s., sitra ahra kali yuga 3 or kings of edom, but the problem, what I have with the most of the tracks, is, that they are all a bit... overloaded. I think, christofer johnsson should have done more than one album with this musical material
@CradleOfBodom17 hm I don't know there are also a few songs that are not as good as Therion used to be... (2012) , but your right, songs like kali III or hellequin have a lot of very good melodical ideas, but they are too much for only one song... ^^ on this album are more different (and good) melodies than in the full band history of many other bands! ^^ but, as I said, it's to much, christofer johnson should have create three albums, I would buy them all! XD (so I've got only one... :-( XD)
@VrebellionC My opinion is exactly the same. Unguentum Sabbatti is great and it's a song, it's the same with Sitra Ahra... but I don't know, for example Kings of Edom which is one of my favourites is pretty overloaded. It seems like Christofer hat 19 ideas that he packed in one song.
Listen to you guys: "I Cant figure out..." "this is a shame" "The phantom of the opera"
Whats the matter with you? Therion is Big, its different not anyone can understand this music, and you talkin like noobs or some pop fans... Lets be proud of every note in Sitra Ahra.
Interesting. It has Deggial's orchestral style and Vovin's infamous lack of atmosphere, and also successfully maintains Gothic Kabbalah's conceptualizations.
Sitra Ahra's greatest strength may be its greatest weakness, as some seasoned fans will undoubtedly lament that it sounds too much like at least one of the three albums. Even so, Those same veterans will agree with me in saying Sitra Ahra is a satisfying blast from the past in that respect.
Ok i bought this CD and loved it, but was a little confused when i got to this song. Unguentum Sabbati translated literally from Latin to English means Ointment of the day of rest.
This song is awesome and people from Therion are so natural and kind.We have talked with them for over an hour and they were so patient with everyone.The guitar player plays good football.Yes this is one of the best songs on Sitra ahra album.I can't make up my mind which song is better: Sitra ahra, helliquin, kali yuga 3 or this one.They had fantastic show in Belgrade. It wasn't full but the atmosphere was fantastic
@patly79 Peoplo who gets angry because theres is "Phantom of the Opera" in this song??? WTF???? That descendind/ascending in half tone progression was NOT written by Andrew Lloyd Webber!!!!! shut up :-)
@TomegathericonPL Therion has always been a lot more epic than Epica!! I think I love Design Your Universe more than Sitra Ahra though. Im not that impressed with what ive heard from it so far,but I havent bought Sitra Ahra yet so I cant really judge it! But Design Your Universe was fantastic!! and yes I love the intro too,this is a really awesome song!
@Griefshire16 Yeah, Epica is great too. A week ago I was on their gig in Poznań, it was just fuckin great event. And I have 2 autographs: Mark signed my ticket before gig, and Yves my torch with Epica logo before gig. I was also searching for Simone, but I couldn't fuckin find her. Anyway gig was really graet. Best moment: I was growlin: Isay... what I think... I will do... or whole audience screamin: hey! hey! hey!. One is certain, wherever Epica will perform in Poland I will be there
The best track fro this album along Hellequin.. I posted my cover as response

@titandelapocalipsis You mean you don't recognise the main chord progression from The Phantom of the Opera?
Therion is my favourite band, but still. The similarity is uncanny.
Nannirk 4 months ago
@Nannirk I don't, as someone here said: "it's just a scale dude ¬¬"
titandelapocalipsis 4 months ago
@titandelapocalipsis That may be, but I've never heard it in any other piece of music. Naturally, I'll assume there's a reason.
Nannirk 4 months ago
@Nannirk whatever ¬¬
titandelapocalipsis 4 months ago
@Nannirk, you could've heard it in Pink Floyd's Echoes. That's where Lloyd Webber borrowed his tune from.
Anetron1 2 months ago
@Anetron1 I can see what you mean. But the similarity is greater between Unguentum Sabbati and The Phantom, than The Phantom and Echoes.
Nice to know a lot of the music I like is connected.

Phantom of the Opera? It's just an scale dude... Good God these people... later they're going to say "what the hell, the drums are the same" ==!
