  • After watching I.R.T. it's nice to see it in the summer. Did you take a role of duct tape along for the pieces that fell off due to the pot holes? My sister lives in Fairbanks and calls this "the death road" ,she wont drive it in the summer in a car!

  • @jednpep lol. We didn't ride Harleys so no duct tape required. The only issue we had was one of the bikes had a small rock flip up just right to break the electrical connector to the side stand lock out switch. The bike died about 5 miles south of Prudhoe. Took about a minute to diagnose and 45 seconds to fix it.

  • I hope for the day that I can drive this road! Great vid thanks for sharing.

  • Thank you for posting this movie!

  • we have almost the same trip..lol

  • c) 90 +157 = 247 miles, 75 + 175 = 250 miles.

    4. Both highways that lead up to these highways branch off.

    a) Highway 400 branches off for 110 km to Parry Sound

    b) Eliott Highway branches off for 80 miles to Manley Hot Springs.

    5. Both cross a major latitude, and have signs that show it.

    a) Yonge Street crosses the 45th parallel 85 km in

    b) Dalton crosses the Arctic Circle 115 miles in

6.a) Yonge Street parallels train tracks

    b) Dalton Highway parallels pipelines.

  • I was doing some research and I found A LOT of similarities between this highway and Yonge Street in Ontario. Here they are:

    1. They are both Highway 11

    2. a) The distance between Hamilton (where I live) and Barrie (which is the start of the highway) is 145 km or 90 miles and between Barrie and North Bay is 251 km or 157 miles

    b) The distance between Fairbanks and the Dalton is 75 miles or 120 km and the distance from there to Coldfoot is 175 miles or 280 km.

    c) 145+251= 396 km or 248 miles

  • Awesome possum! Thanks "Tntdub" for uploading...I hope to be there in a few weeks. Any pointers other than the obvious would be appreciated; you can catch me under the same handle on Advrider.com if you blog there.

  • @Arkrube: Make sure the weather is good. lol. Seriously, June - July offers the best chance of favorable weather so you've timed that about the right. Be as flexible with your schedule as you can. The weather - and water trucks can make the road nearly impassable at times. Make sure you have enough gas to comfotably ride 250 miles. Pick up a cheap, plastic spray bottle in FBX and fill it with water to keep your radiator/oil cooler free of mud. DEET is your friend. Have fun and take LOTS of pics.

  • Wow. How long does that take, like 10 hours? (The speed limit's 50 mph, which divided into 414 is 8.28 hours, but I read on the Internet that you probably don't want to go that fast.)

  • @sarahedwards2 : We took our time going north because we wanted to take lots of photos. We ended up spending the night in Coldfoot and arrived at Dead Horse the next day. Coming back we had decent weather so we just pushed on into FBX the same day. With a few more stops, lunch at Coldfoot and a visit to the Nat'l Park it took us about 13 hours. There are places where the gravel is hard packed and we ran 60 to 65 mph. I know of a few people who have ridden FBX-Prudhoe-FBX in less than 24 hours.

  • Hey! It's back. This movie had been removed because the song is copyrighted. I guess since they link to iTunes and Amazon mp3 they put it back up. Coolness.

  • Man, that is a long, lonely highway. Earlier this summer, I drove from Fairbanks to the Arctic Circle and back. Maybe someday I'll be bold enough to go all the way up to Prudhoe Bay!

  • I haven't gotten around to go up there yet I can't wait xD

  • I've been on this highway and it was cool!

  • GREAT video- Thanks for posting it!!!

  • Great video!

  • I've been on that highway it's very cool place

  • Anyone have advice for a guy who wants to drie from prudhoe bay to yaziha? (the southernmost drivable location on the panamerican hwy, before the darien gap)

  • Very inspiring ! I'd love to do this trip one day - also with a V-strom.

  • Thanks. We went in mid-July. Statistically, the driest month up there. I don't mind riding in the rain but it can turn the road into a quagmire alarmingly fast. Be careful and take lots of pics/video. Have fun!

  • Thanks. Especially if you are riding, be as flexible as possible on your schedule to account for bad weather. The weather and road conditions cab change really fast and the road can go from decent to nearly impassible in a a few minutes. Milepost is good but almost too good. It takes all of the adventure out of the Al-Can. Most of all, have fun. It's a trip of a lifetime.

  • Great video, you did good.... What month was this? Planning a trip myselt in mid August.

  • FANTASTIC! My Friend and I are planning for it in June 0f 2009, any tips?

  • We were the in October, Atigun Pass Was covered by the snow, and we were traveling in Ford Aerostar '97 a had a lot of fun. You need to take Milepost - Alaskan trip planner (available in Walmart and Safeway)...
