I thought he'd crash on the planet and he might still, but taking the trailer for halo 4 into account, the bright light is the unidentified ship, pulling him in, but that planet below may have a ton to do with it, maybe the unidentified ship has enemies (most likely) and he escapes to the planet below..? I think we should take into account the fact a planet is RIGHt next to the ship.

@lolputl The Micro Dyson Sphere is, but it's only 23 centimeters in diameter in normal space because it's in a slipspace bubble. Putting it simply, it's bigger on the inside inside slipspace, and what John is heading towards is MUCH bigger than 23 centimeters.

Also, I can guess that the Forerunner Master Builder might be an antagonist (he disappeared in the book). Also, a "backup drive" for Guilty Spark has been found; he hijacked a human ship and is now looking for the Librarian (she's still alive). So that's feature in too.
@Zlarel Frankly, this 'Greater' Ark could be the Legendary Planet itself. There's no indication that it's anything like the other Ark we see in Halo 3. Faber would seem like he could be an antagonist, though I expect we'll be seeing him in Book 3 of the Forerunner Trilogy.
@llikeFoodnDrink If you have read the books you will know that Dr Halsay disobeyed orders given to her by the admiralty and took the second generation of spartans (after the master chief) on a special mission. If i remember correctly, she took them to a planet that she believed held the mystery of the entire forerunner race (an artificially built planet aka "shield world"). I think it planet was supposed to protect inhabitants from the devastation of the halo rings. I believe it is this planet.

Maybe he will hook up with the other spartans , I read the book a coupla years ago. Just thinking about that gives me the chills . It's like a movie that's why I enjoy it . Im not really a gamer

Ideas like that are borne from mind-numbing story-killing games like Call of Duty, Halo has always provided story, content, and something to think about, it wasnt just a story of war or religion, it was a story of Humanities Last Stand, and how through bravery, sacrifice, and just plain luck we managed to survive as a race.

Ideas like this belong to the CoD series, not halo. The story goes a little deeper than a "run and gun" type.
@JokrProject Halo has a better story than the CoD games, I played and beat every CoD and Halo game. Halo is more original, come on, the idea of Russians invading the United States, thats been seen before a lot, and as for Black Ops, it had a great story with a nice twist but its about something that already happened in history, Halo is completely made up in every way but its story still connects throughout the games, books, cartoons, graphic novels, etc.

Sure the old Call of duty games were classic and I really enjoyed them but all the new ones are complete crap in my opinion, I just lost all interest in that game, but halo keeps delivering year after year after year.

So far, I see three possibilities: Reach (Glassed by the Covenant so I don't see in any creative light how that could be) Forerunner planet (Possibly because the ark was outside of the Milky Way as explained by 343 Guilty Spark) or, coolest to me so far, The Elite Home world where MC will meet back up with The Arbiter, and all will be well.

Very, very, true. Reach doesn't have all those forerunner symbols in it. Also, fun fact: Halo: Reach was originally going to be Halo 4 and the main protagonist was actually going to be John..and was a continuation of Halo 3.
@sened9 thats not a crashed ship. Look at the first cutscene of a game and it shows the same "ship" That shows the destruction of Reach and MC landed on it long time after.

@HALOBUZZ0401 It could be. After Halo: Reach in the last cutscene, it shows Reach back to the way it was, terraformed and everything. If it takes years for Master Chief to cross the galaxy and arrive at Reach in the hunk of junk of what remains of Forward Unto Dawn, by that time it should be habitable again.

The story isn't over, and master chief isn't dead. They way he survived the halo collapsing, that was equal to a sun exploding, and he survived that. He isn't any ordinary spartan, he is the greatest spartan and the last spartan, or is he? What ever happened to the spartans who also went into cryo-freeze? That planet he landed on, it doesn't matter waht it is, but that the distres beacon that cortana turned on, it would be destroyed,

The story line goes: Halo Wars, Reach, CE, 2, ODST, 3. Reach was glassed, but that just means "...it's surface is but glass." It is quite possible that the planet they were floating towards is Reach. Reach would be far too inhospitable now, but it may be. From the beginning.. You know the end.

people people, of course they will show what happens to chief, they're just building up momentum by releasing games like ODST and Reach to get people excited, they will probably release a "Halo 4" or "Return of Master Chief" or something. i know those sounded really cheesy but you know. just give it time
this is like something you would see on the show "Lost". Music and everything! But hopefully Bungie doesn't go in the same direction as Lost did and explain what actually happens to the chief and if that planet is Onyx or not!
And if there is a sequel there better be some kind of prolonging story that connects everything. I don't want a story like rescuing Spartans that don't have to do with anything and will get nowhere. it's just saving Spartans....nothing after that.
@omargoebuum69 It was the "shield" to Halo's "sword." Inside, there was a wormhole to another dimension that was able to survive the firing of the Halo rings (Sounds stupid if the Flood could get in, given that the Forerunners wanted to kill them and if the Flood got in, it would survive off of the people inside.).
The planet you see is onyx. If anyone read the books they'd know, that the planets surface is littered with onyx formations and onyx is a dark black rock. And the big bright light is either a sun. Or the Spartan Kurt-051 setting off the nuke like a mother f***ing badass in the end of the book Halo: Ghost of Onyx =D
the ending music says it all. the tense atmosphere, the chaotic strings. there will be a sequel, and 117 is gonna kick some freakish new enemys ass, just like he always has.

it can't be reach,this planet has forerunner symbols and geometric shapes and lines, ooohh and the SUN IS BLUE, it can't be onyx, read "halo:ghosts of onyx" the planet was destroyed, btw onyx had a natural looking surface when it was discovered by UNSC the didn't suspect it was artificial until the got attacked by sentinels when delta halo was activted
cmon...reach and onyx are not the only planets out there!
it can be the forerunner homeworld, but IM NOT SURE, watch "halo legends: origins"

So far, I see three possibilities: Reach (Glassed by the Covenant so I don't see in any creative light how that could be) Forerunner planet (Possibly because the ark was outside of the Milky Way as explained by 343 Guilty Spark) or, coolest to me so far, The Elite Home world where MC will meet back up with The Arbiter, and all will be well.

And who knows, there might be some left over Covenant. The Covenant is not broken, only the prophets are. The Brutes aren't wiped out and still are at war with the Elites, and possibly the humans. Then you have all the grunts and jackals doing who knows what

Very, very, true. Reach doesn't have all those forerunner symbols in it. Also, fun fact: Halo: Reach was originally going to be Halo 4 and the main protagonist was actually going to be John..and was a continuation of Halo 3.

At the end of Reach when you see Noble 6's helemt you can see a crashed ship in the background to the right. That could be the ship cheif is on.

@HALOBUZZ0401 It could be. After Halo: Reach in the last cutscene, it shows Reach back to the way it was, terraformed and everything. If it takes years for Master Chief to cross the galaxy and arrive at Reach in the hunk of junk of what remains of Forward Unto Dawn, by that time it should be habitable again.

@gamer2229 no that helmet is noble 6 helmet why? because when you change you character helmet in the game (noble 6) the helmet that is in the ground in the bigining of the game is the one you put on the character and is the same one you see in the ending of the game.

The story isn't over, and master chief isn't dead. They way he survived the halo collapsing, that was equal to a sun exploding, and he survived that. He isn't any ordinary spartan, he is the greatest spartan and the last spartan, or is he? What ever happened to the spartans who also went into cryo-freeze? That planet he landed on, it doesn't matter waht it is, but that the distres beacon that cortana turned on, it would be destroyed,

The story line goes: Halo Wars, Reach, CE, 2, ODST, 3. Reach was glassed, but that just means "...it's surface is but glass." It is quite possible that the planet they were floating towards is Reach. Reach would be far too inhospitable now, but it may be. From the beginning.. You know the end.

Inside, there was a wormhole to another dimension that was able to survive the firing of the Halo rings (Sounds stupid if the Flood could get in, given that the Forerunners wanted to kill them and if the Flood got in, it would survive off of the people inside.).

The planet you see is onyx. If anyone read the books they'd know, that the planets surface is littered with onyx formations and onyx is a dark black rock. And the big bright light is either a sun. Or the Spartan Kurt-051 setting off the nuke like a mother f***ing badass in the end of the book Halo: Ghost of Onyx =D
