  • I like these guys. great sound. makes you feel good. what the hell else matters?

  • I hate how everyone must draw conclusions and analyze every single band these guys (or anyone for that matter) may have drawn inspiration from, sound similar to, etc. If anyone has listened to a good amount of music as they grew up, of course you will be able to point out obvious inspirations.

At this day and age, sounding 100% original is pretty difficult unless you plan on writing some very strange music. Not saying it hasn't been done, but regardless...

    ...Great band, great song.

  • tylerji, nice to find such sensibilities here in Maple Valley. These are indeed sweet people.

  • This band made me feel better about people. It made me feel a new connection to maple valley, a pacific northwest town though I come from a more 'boonie' setting. They make me smile, what band has done that for you in an honest way lately?

  • they sound better live. The songs have such an energy live.

  • not at all. it's better than most bands can do live

  • not true lol

  • no. only on youtube and your speakers.

  • u smells shit

  • I only come across the FF a few weeks ago and there's some good comments here, Music is only 8 notes, then Octaves sharps, flats etc .. They do sometimes sound Hippie, Cathedral choir, Early,Late 60, 70's everyone of those big gigs did a sort out ma heid album with chimes and insence. Sometimes they even sound like the Aleution (spelling) or Mongolian Shamans who do that breathing singing groaning thing and sometimes I can hear the Pipes drones with an alto over the top.

    They're good though

  • i hear alot of brian wilson harmonies and beach boy type stuff. but their recipe for a harmony is unique and very catchy. jefferson airplane did a similar thing where their harmonies were based on a diminished 9th key or some wild sh*t like that...

  • fleet foxes have managed to put Choir singing into mainstream, it's very good and interesting stuff, a perfectly produced album that will become a classic.

  • excellent song

  • sounds to me like their parents might have had some old 'Cryin' Shames' lps playin' around to inspire these beautiful harmonies

  • These guys are in a category all of their own. I've never heard anything like this, and it's amazing and refreshing and uplifting and...other various...things.

  • I just love their sound

  • where did that comment come from?

  • This band has, in short order, created a sound all of their own. Well, to me, at least. You can hear various wonderful influences, kind of wandering and floating around this. And, importantly. There is a friendly but firm anchor under their shifting sea and sky that holds it all tight and focussed.

  • Their own sound?

It isn't very original to be honest. It's basically the 60's and early 70's jam bands for the modern socialite.

  • as always, could you name me a few, i'm dying to hear more music like this ^_^

  • You should get the album "Deja Vu by Crosby Stills Nash and Young" It's one of my favorites and very similar sorts of harmonys to fleet foxes.

  • thanks! will defiunately check them out!

  • ? they just write music that comes from them... they're not trying to get a sound from back then or anything like that. They are very original and write from their souls, which is how it's supposed to be.

  • You have no idea what you're talking about, but it's okay your intentions are good. Just try listening to what Sanderz said and you'll see where we're coming from.

  • i can see what you're saying so far as the musical influences, but the emotions that come from fleet foxes are definitely a result of a more contemporary sort of subculture as opposed to the emotions tied to the hippie movement that are present in 60's and 70's jam bands. similar approaches to music, but totally different outcome.

  • The thing is all artists use past artists as inspirations. Name a band and I'll tell you the inspiration they all have 'em!

  • Vanilla ice?

  • He's a rapper they all sound the same!

  • Bwaahaha........Ice, Ice baby............stolen from Under Pressure by David Bowie and Queen, great innovation.

Don't mind him stealing, but he claims he wrote it himself lol.

  • sorry but I don't even think he sang the song nevermind writing it! Were you subverisly mocking rap or actually being serious?! lol

  • Of course I know that all bands have music prior to theirs that inspired them, but that doesn't disprove my point.

  • it's not that often that I get excited about modern music but this is a very nice band with lovely melodies and beautiful harmonies - can't wait to here more!

  • csny, zombies, beach boys...i agree w/ that. but to compare this band to BOH or MMJ so goddamn lazy and insightless. yah, all three bands use lots of verb on their records, and robin and jim james have moments of vague vocal likeness, but to say they are SIMILAR TO, SOUND LIKE, or are INFLUENCED BY BOH/MMJ is pure goofball-ness. it's like saying that a carrot is a lot like a gummy bear because you can eat them both.

  • Very well said Meursault.

  • dime a elebuntonxz and a half

Wery vell zed, I'm a sock puppet of Meursault

  • great band, totally unique at this time in music

  • Oh my god they're amazing live!!

  • ? some people (alijr99) can't tell the difference between folk and p.diddy, how sad .....

  • BAND of horses? no dude band of horses is not nearly as good as these guys. Dont get me wrong im a big fan of band of horses to but fleet foxes are FLEET FOXES. thats that.

  • why are people so prone to pointing out who they look like/sound like? They have released (imo) one of the best albums of the year...So much emotion and harmonization. Truly a masterpiece. Can't it be left at that?

  • For real. i know

  • I'd say they sound more like the Fleet Foxes..

  • i would say a mixture of band of horses and my morning jacket

  • I hear The Door's, along with a bit of Band of horse's.

  • I hear bits of the futureheads in there somewhere....

  • O god these harmonies are beautiful

  • Mmm, to my ear it's Beach Boys harmony, John Cale lead melody and Quicksilver Messenger Service backing?

  • Yes, good point - a bit like The Bees with a bit of CSN&Y. A bit too hippy for me but pretty. Don't hear The Zombies..?

  • They look like a cooler version of the 'Redwalls'. It certainly doesn't hurt that the lead singer looks like Jesus, and the bass player and guitarist are 'spot on' Radiohead lookalikes! Happy fame mates! Ten minutes better than none-

  • is it me or do they sound like 'The Bees'

  • more like the moody blues.

  • And The Bees sound like The Byrds? :P

To me CSN are their first source of inspiration, not just for vocal armonies but musically as well. Anyway, Fleet Foxes are a great band, and their debut album is a milestone.

  • So, this is officially one of the best songs ever.

  • This band renewed my hope in modern music. I hear a strong Zombies influence. :)Gorgeous vocal arrangements!

  • I absolutely love their sound. It's got this trippy depth that I don't hear in too many other songs; the way they play the guitar in this song is a good example. Not to mention the watery harmony interweaved.

  • awweeesooommme!!!

  • Love this song. Can't wait to buy it.Look forward to an album.
