  • hilarious. Guy gets dragged face first through the surf and his buddy casually strolls over.

  • For others watching, pulling the bar is used for jumping mostly (at least with a foil). You can get lofted in the air if the winds are strong enough. This isn't something to worry about once you gain the experience. And make sure to research how to set up your kite (lines, inflating, etc.) if you are unsure; it will save a huge headache and maybe your life.

  • thanks!

shouldnt this guy just steer the kite outside of the power window and then let it fall? im new to the sport, so i don't really know what i'm talking about but i have an idea

  • Is also good if you have a nice steady breeze to put as many hours in as possible just learning the characteristics of the kite, learn as much as possible about flying the kite blind, feeling through the bar for kite position and pull, and SLOWLY. Secret is dont jump in too deep too fast.

  • Thanks for all the great advice mrmawalker! Hopefully this will be of help to a lot of people interested in starting the sport.

  • Good idea would've been maybe a 6-8m kite, go maybe 50 feet out to sea (Cross/Cross/On) and just lay back in the water and practice using the kite to manouver his body position (similar to water-starting in wind surfing if you've been there) and its not as easy as it seems. You dont even need an LEI for this, any decent foil will do, but DONT go out of your depth if with an open cell foil eh!

  • I've been on slingshots for 3 years and Naish V's 3 years previous to that, can safely say smaller is better for learning. Did this guy practice body dragging and emergency pack down before hand too?

  • IMHO the kite looks approx 3-4m oversized for the level he is at, the LE looks pretty thin too although I cant make out the brand. A GOOD instructor kite is the 2004-2006 Slingshot Fuel with a roack solid LE and chubby enough (if inflated correctly) not to start twisting and bow-tieing if all hell breaks loose.

  • LOL yes good job I have a sense of humour, and live probably as far away as possible from where ever this dood got his advice from.

The kite is stupidly underinflated, with other people on the beach and losing control like that I wonder if the guy knows 'what' let alone 'where' the safety system is.

  • Yeah, really quite funny, my 10 year old can control a kite better than that (even at her 1st lesson). Must say I would have had to punch the kiter in the vid if I'd seem him pillocking down a public beach like that.

  • Good thing you weren't on the beach that day. LET'S GET READY TO RRRRRRRRRRUMBLE!!!!!!!! (cue cheesy theme music) hehehehe... I have to say, it would have been funny seeing you run down the beach after my bud trying to punch him in the face. You shouldn't kick a man when he's down. Good luck to your 10 year old... I'm glad she took lessons and hope she has fun with it.

  • WOW u guys are smart. u didnt inflate the kite to full power and u didnt take kiteboard lessons good job.

  • No shit brainiac. You should read the description before you go pointing out the obvious. I put this up here so other idiots won't do the same thing. With that being said, do you have any other constructive advice for newbies?

  • What a fool he is!!! His kite isnt inflated properly, and he is kitesurfing for the first time as I can see. For the first time you shouldnt go somewhere where u have piers, thats dangerous! His kite would get wrapped in the pier, or worse, he would! I hope all of you have learned of this dumbasses actions!

  • Thanks for pointing out the obvious sjaak. It's a good thing we have people like you to indicate what we can clearly already see. Why the hell do you think I posted this? Hopefully, people will learn from it and also learn how not to spell/punctuate from dumb asses such as yourself. Oh wait, now I'm pointing out the obvious! Ta-ta for now! :)

  • Yeah, people will also learn how to record it all on film and stand by and not even helping the poor guy. I'm pointing out the obvious, right? Ta-ta!

  • Oh, and standing by recording and even laughing too! Let the people learn that! Ta-Ta!

  • Get your panties out of a wad and get a sense of humor! Fortunately, no one got hurt, and we got it all on tape so everyone can laugh and make jokes at the expense of my idiotic friend. More importantly, maybe a few people will learn what NOT to do when learning to kite board after they've had a good laugh! :)

  • You could simply NOT know that no one would get hurt right on the moment you filmed it. But you laughed allready. If you call that a sense of humour then you dont have a sense of humour at all!! lol

  • You are right. I did not know that no one would get hurt, so yeah... maybe I have a sick sense of H-U-M-O-R. I also find it funny that you are so jacked out of shape about one stupid video. Let it go dude. Let it go. Why don't you go watch videos of people who are actually GOOD at kite boarding? I bet they are way more interesting... though not as funny!

  • Dont worry about me. I will make it. But thanks for your concern! :)

  • this is why you cant even buy a kite around my area with out propper training.

  • how old do u think u should be before u attempt this?

    please reply

  • I'm not exactly an expert on this (I'm just the camera-woman in this vid), but I think you can start at any age as long as you are a relatively good swimmer and use a kite and board for your weight range. They must have kid sized kites and boards because I've seen some places now offering kid kite boarding camps. I'd also recommend lessons your first time. Hope this helps and good luck to you!

  • if u cant aford lessons speak 2 other kite surfers for advise and see if u can tag along to the beach with them most kiters dont mind i think most would rather to give pointers than to see some1 get really hurt but good vid shows how mad the sport can be. it would be nice to hear how he is progressing please keep me up 2 date as iam just starting out myself scottie

  • new title of video=what NOT to do...not Kiteboarding 101...yeesh, i started with a professional lesson, had me going fine, going out on a limb thinking 'oh yeah, it cant be THAT hard to do it myself' is simply retarded, nice to know no one got hurt, not something IKO would like to see.

  • Read the detailed description JetJock. Hopefully this video will prove to others that it is NOT wise to skimp on lessons. Take care and have fun kiting!

  • that kite is built for land, if your going on the ocean you need an inflateable. Good luck, lessons are a must, I just posted my first video after a 3 hour lesson in miami and up and riding for the first time!

  • He inflated it, but apparently according to the experts it was not inflated nearly enough. Congratulations on your first ride and good luck in the future!

  • idiot!!

just change backlines and powerlines, pump more and everything will be okay! if you're beginner, just go out if there is onshore or sideshore

  • Thanks for the advice. I'm not sure what onshore or sideshore is, but I'll be sure to pass it along. He's gotten some much needed help from professionals since this vid was taken and is getting better.

  • Idiot. If only people like this were the only ones to get injured and not others caught up in the action. Pratts like this give the sport a bad name

  • You're the idiot. What kind of a-hole would wish injury on anyone? He quickly realized after his 1st time he couldn't learn this sport on his own; that he needed to pay for lessons from a professional. Did you take to it like a pro the 1st time? No, I think not. Never made a bad decision before in your life? No, I think not. There is a learning curve to everything. Fortunately no one was injured, & we can look back & laugh. It's interested people like him that help the sport GROW.

  • Yeah you're right - everyone should just have a go and fuck it if swimmers or walkers get caught up. Silly me.

  • My God...He probably get a fine by IKO.

  • Lot more to it than just pumping the kite up correctly. He will learn once he has his near death experience. Hopefully it won't we an innocent bystander who gets injured.

  • LOLOLOL

  • This is dam stupid. The kite needs to be pumped up more to keep it in flight. Take some lessons badly!

  • Yeah, but it was fucking funny as hell though. Fortunately for us, my buddy is too cheap to take lessons. We wouldn't have been nearly as entertained if he had! Since this video was taken, he's manage to meet some people who actually know what they're doing and they informed him about pumping up the kite more.

  • If this is your friend for the sake of others on the beach, encourage him to get lessons. He is very fortunate that he did not hurt some of the other people on the beach with his lines.

  • That is very dangerous, if whoever uploaded the video knows the person flying the kite in the video tell him to pump the kite harder, and to take lessons. He should have release the kite to the leash at the beginning. Take Kitesurfing seriously, you put other people in danger as well. The people walking on the beach don't know, and aren't supposed to know about the danger tensioned lines pose.

  • great video, thanks

  • I'm new to kiting and I know how this guy feels it reminds me of myself lol great vid though
