  • Wow! I got into gear daddies in the 80's. Loved you then and love you now! Where are you these days????????????

  • This was the soundtrack to my high school days in smallish town Minnesota, early 1990's. Thanks for posting this. Look how thrilled they are to be there! It's really sweet.

  • I've been through 3 cassettes of this and recently found a CD of it. Must have played this for a month straight.

  • best EVER!!!!! GO MINNESOTA!!!!

  • Great album!! Top Ten Desert Island Disc!

  • The guy with the yellow telecaster is our middle school gym teacher!

  • Gear Daddies have been my favorite band for going on twenty years. I'm from Florida and went to school with a guy from Minni that had LGSA. I stole it from him and have replaced it half a dozen times. I constantly share my love of GD with new people and have always wanted to see them perform but alas, living now in Detroit, I am too far away to catch the rare reunions.

  • gear daddies rock i have seen them at least 20 time and every time they where amazing

  • Im actuly friends with martin

  • Damn, Kranes, I don't care how old this song is, it still ROCKS! As I said from my days at WB...Minnesota is a rock mecca! Great band!

  • Man those were the days. Countless amazing shows at First Avenue in Minneapolis.

  • love Zellar music and the gear daddies music, Minnesota own! lettermen looks like a dork though!

Stupid boy! reminds me of many small town beer drinking amazing fun rocking to MZ and the hardways!

  • Martin Zeller is awesome!

  • Not quite sure how I came across this band but I think I really like their sound. What a nice surprised to come on here and find y'all talkin' 'bout my all time favorite, Paul Westerberg : )

  • The lead guitar player is my gym teacher!!! lol

  • @skating49 Does he still have long hair?

  • @oxymento hahah no its short but its like puffy on the top!

  • The only time I ever met Paul Westerberg was wen I worked at Sunnyside Gardens greenhouse, and he and his wife were buying bedding plants.

Al Long left Misery went to New York and fronted the band Nausea and traded vocals with Amy Miret. Her husband Roger Miret is in the band Agnostic Front.

  • I was never a Replacements fan anyway.

I liked Iron Fist, Skull Fuck, The Test Monkeys, Misery, Steve Kramer & The Wallets and of course Husker Du!

  • I stand corrected, I should have said that Gear Daddies were the first Minneapolis band to play Letterman (1991). Yes, Soul Asylum also did the Letterman show. Paul Westerberg did Letterman, but not with the Replacements. I don't know if he was a solo act with Letterman studio musicians or that was his new band.

  • My friends and I went to the Uptown Bar in Minneapolis, Minnesota to see the Gear

Daddies every time they played there.

They were always fabulous! And I think they

are the only band from Minnesota to play on

    Late Night With David Letterman.

    Saw this show in 1991

The guitar player is awesome too.

  • bloderme. Paul Westerberg and his band played Letterman. Maybe Soul Asylum?

  • Why are their lyrics about being in love with boys? lol are they gay or am I missing something? Just wondering.

  • The way I saw it was he wrote a lot of songs from the other persons POV. So things sound gay but it's from his girlfriend/wifes POV. Or maybe he's gay. Eiither way good tune. Always liked the Daddies, lucky enough to see them in MSP in 2000 or so for the reunion.

  • good song. i dont know if it was this performance, or either reading about them in creem magazine, that made me buy their tape. good stuff

  • I woke up or rustled up my college roomates at St Cloud State when this came on.........thanks Gear for the great drinking music all during college (Red Carpet rules) . And I had never heard of them before I moved to St Cloud from the East Coast. Also Martin did a great job singing at a Twins game we saw.

  • Martin Zeller is so adorable.

  • wow i can't believe this is on youtube.

holy shit i used to see them live in Minneapolis all the time

  • shit eating grins for TV. Yeahhhh!@!#

  • The guitarist is my gym teacher

  • i love this song. what is the lead singers name... anybody know??

  • OMFG It's Martin Zellar!!!!!! /quits a life where folks don't know Marty....

  • Martin Zellar

  • I rented Martin Zellar a car in Minneapolis once- very nice guy

  • Does this make anybody else feel like going down to the Red Carpet for a few?

  • I wish they'd come back full time. I don't see it happening tho. Bunch of us here in Nashville would love to book them and turn them back on to being the GREAT band they are and greater exposure than they have.

I don't think Martin's ready, or maybe it's the rest of em. Clubs are hard to play when ya don't drink.

Ima keep fingers crossed. WE LOVE YOU GEAR!

  • STC!

  • lol the guitarist in yellow is my gym teacher.....

  • I saw 'em many times but Austin outdoors after a rain in the mud was somethin' else. A girl by me lost her contact..me calculating drunkard stooped over and pointed to it in the mud...Gear is good.

  • They used to play the ATO house at NDSU.... those were the good old days....

  • Thank you Thank you I'm from Austin. Thank you for putting this on there i never got to see it until now. once again THANK YOU

  • Minnesota Music baby!

  • Remember enjoying a concert in 91' at St. Thomas...was walking around campus and kind of stumbled across it...was 5 feet from Zeller the whole concert, great time. at the time, remember the daddies being semi-broken up...great memories!

  • My 'name' says it ALL! I have been looking for YEARS for this clip! THANK YOU SO VERY MUCH for posting it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Love this. I remember watching it when it aired...like most of the Austin, MN area.

This reminds me of so many drunken nights at Gear Daddies concerts, dancing and singing at the top of my voice with a bunch of other drunks.

  • Thank you, who ever posted this video I've been looking for it for a long time!

  • i like martin zellar better!

  • I recall the Gear Daddies playing for free on the North Dakota State University campus in1986, maybe it was 1987. I was drunk a lot then. Good times!

  • One of my favorite songs ever! I used to love seeing the Gear Daddies in a small club, damn I miss them... Zeller is still playing though.

  • Where's Crank Belknap??? Randy (yellow shirt) was my substitute teacher while Mr. Homp was out sick, but this was pre-Crank/Daddies era.

  • randy was my gym teacher in 6th grade. he still is a gym teacher.

  • LMFAO THATS MY GYM TEACHER IN THE YELLOW SHIRT (no joke) that is so sad :p

  • I was pissed cuz that street dance in Pelican was for 18+ only. So I just sat at home with my grandparents

  • The best ever! He was great in Pelican for a freezing street dance!

  • I remember rushing home that night with friends and ordering DOMINOS to watch this live. MN Music rocked for years back then with Burbs, Mats, Husker Du, Gear Daddies, ...

  • Martin Zellar is my uncle, and he is preforming in duluth MN tomorrow for the forth of July festival. I live near Duluth , so I am very exited to see him play.

  • MORE MORE MORE!!!!!!!! :)

  • Fianlly someone found it and put it up!!!!!!!!!!!!!
