@ToxisGrey Are we related? I did the exact same thing when I watched this. The only three I've watched are the three you described (2004, Animated and the 1990's miniseries (the one I'm watching right now), and I have also read the book (multiple times). How odd... I'm going to be watching all of the Phantom movies (that are not horror adaptations).

Phentom of the Opera is such an AMAZING story! I got the book, watched the 2004 movie over and over, it became my favorite movie, I watched the animated movie and then this version... This is my favorite version but I've only been able to watch it all once... I've never cried so hard because of a movie as I did at the end of this one.

@childofdarkness300 Because the directors didn't want to show Erik's face. (personally, I think it was a brilliant decision, since no one ever (Not even Lon Chaney) could ever show how truly deformed Erik is.) So the second mask is a replacement for his face so you can still see what Charles Dance looks like (more or less) while understanding that he wears a mask because he is deformed. Second to that, it allows him to change masks based on his mood without showing his face.

I like how Carlotta's voice is just...unbearable in this version, and then when you hear Christine sing there's a BIG difference. I went to go see one ALW production and I swear Carlotta and Christine sounded exactly the same.

Haha! This version is SO. HILARIOUS! Charles Dance's phantom is so much kinder (Nice voice...in a way)and the "unmaskings"? HAHAHA! LOVE the Faust "summary" and all those hilarious scenes like Carlotta and manager...You're a new spring... and the rehearsal! This is brilliant! :)

A lot of the lines are repetative such as:

"I'll kill them both - sorry I'm not used to killing people" (the use of "kill" in such close proximity) and then "Put up the costumes carefully - must handle them carefully". It's a great movie but that bothers me. Probably because I am a writer.
