the whole experiment is to find out what we can push the limits of the universe and our known elements too. By doing this test of colliding atoms they find that they can make an energy that if able to control with our minds can basically make anything we think of. This is mainly because of the gray matter in our brains having some sort of relationship to the colliding atoms.
