  • solution !!! Hemp

  • Hemp seed would be ideal for use in bio-diesel applications. In FACT Henry Ford built and fueled a car with hemp. The seeds are good for people too!

  • This film is already outdated. Already, at least in my city and from what I read at current websites where people discuss these things, large companies give restaurants free "waste" oil containers - with locks on them - in exchange for the "free" oil.

  • ethnol is a joke it useses more energy to make than you get when you burn it we are better off using an electric car and solar power

  • let's keep our nature green..........

  • if it were not illegal to produce alcohol from farm refuse, maybe farmers could produce their own fuel from waste, thus stopping a movement to have the key crop going into fuel tanks for cars and instead, make its' way to the stomach as food supply. Please be aware of how this involves the current food system, its GMO crops and its food riots. Science is fantastic but not at the expense of biological and botanical diversity.

  • Biofuel is great for the envirement. Try having less kids and kids in USA are obese anyway..... eating heathier and exercising should help. In Brazil you have a choice in all gas stations in Brazil for gas/ethanol made from sugarcane. They are also running on 10% biodiesel and 2010 they are looking at 20/25% biodiesel for their diesel cars and trucks,

  • You covered everything. A lot of articles on biofuel don't mention waste oil or the fact that you can use unrefined waste oil in your diesel engine.

  • Im going to grow some indian kenaf seeds, and i was wondering how could i make into bio diesel

  • That's why my tomatos swim around when I wash them! lol

  • There is also research into none food plants for the production of bio diesel.

The tobacco farms in Ontario say that they can no longer make money growing tobacco and they want the government to buy them out because of all the money the government made on taxing tobacco products

Most tobacco farming land is low grade, not at all good for growing food crops. I was thinking it would be a good idea to find a plant that could grow in such conditions that would be good for making bio diesel.

  • You do not have to search for other plants. Use tobacco as biofuel (bioethanol or biogas). The productions of biomass are higher than most other energy crops.

  • I have heard there is a local (Southern Ontario) company working to use corn stocks & other field stubble to produce ethanol. Most ethanol comes from corn it self.

I watched a news story on farms near a new ethanol plant not being able to get feed for their animals locally & the feed they can get is too expensive for them to make money.

  • Biofuels are horrible!

How many starving people could have been fed with the same food being used to fuel cars? This biofuel trend is going to seriously raise food prices.

  • Kyberspawn, many biofuels use waste oils, such as waste vegetable oils from restaurants.

  • What percent? From what I hear the highest fuel yielding crops are staple foods, like corn (ethanol).

  • Kyberspawn, from what I know (I am not an expert on the topic), the corn is actually corn stalks, which people do not eat. If you find otherwise, please let me know. Thanks

  • actually most commercial biodiesel is not made from stalks that would be cellulosic and is technology still in development so yes biofuels do use food crops or rather land that could be used for another variety that would be better for food

  • @Kyberspawn Actually, world hunger is exacerbated by our excess production of dirt cheap foods due to huge corn, wheat, soy subsidies that put farmers out of business all around the world. Also, hemp produces both biodiesel as well as 4 times the ethanol yield that corn gives. Even *if* biodiesel contributed to hunger, it's better for it to happen now with 6 billion people than when the world population hits 20+ billion. We should have the foresight to know we can't grow forever.
