Don,t get me wrong the Evo is a great car. As an all year rounder its the safe bet. You must admit though its a fast car not a drivers car. Even my grandmother could drive an evo quickly. Try a Noble or preferably an Atom or radical and you will see what a drivers car is which is a test of your skill not the cars. We all go through the stage your at but one day you will understand the fun starts on the other side :)

Both great cars but a correction is needed. The topgear power lap is not a Noble M400, it is a Noble M12 gto-3. If you watch the video you can see by the front lights it is the earlier model. The gto-3 model has no lsd, only a 5 speed box and around 340bhp. It also runs on normal road tyres not the trackday tyres and was driven by a different stig.
They did do a lap in the M400 against an old GT40 race car. They didn't publish the time but it was said to be in the 1:20's.

@tall757 When she said "man-handled" she was refering to how difficult it was to keep it at the correct revs to minimize lag. On Top Gear the Stig had the same problem when he went around that hairpin on the power lap and let the revs drop so he was hardly moving. Yes he could have gone faster, but it takes more work because you have to down shift more often to keep the evo on boost.

@tall757 The FQ400 is a truely incredible car, for it to get beaten by the M400 doesn't take anything away from that fact. Laptimes for both on other tracks with better drivers will always prove the M400 to be quicker, its a race/track bred car vs what is essentially a rally car for the road.. the Evo would completely waste the M400 on a forrest stage, its just a case of horses for courses.
Damn that was unfair...(after I watched the noble on top gear where its actually slower)...Evidence, 2:44 she takes not only a shitty line, but she also mentions no use of heel and toe evidenced by massive turbo lag which = poor acceleration (noble is twin turbo'd so it doesn't get as much)... 2:49 does anybody notice that she holds a tighter line in the evo (she could have went in faster) the car didn't even fight to oversteer a bit coming out

The M400 is 700lbs lighter, 25 more horsepower. Its shouldn't even be compared to an EVO 8 MR FQ400. I love EVO's also will. But if your going to compare 2 cars at least do it to 2 cars that are in the same class. The M400 should be racing against a Ferrari 430, or 911 T.
In skilled hands the noble would make the Evo look very slow. If on the other hand you have limited natural ability buy the Evo it makes you feel like a pro but does the work for you.

Also had both. Noble a whole different league but like you say the Evo is great for what it is. Neither is a patch on the Ariel Atom 2 300 still the best car i've ever owned.

it it wasnt some retarded bias test, the Evo would have won. Come on hard to keep in the powerband? Sorry but that bullshit when talking about turbo cars and actually racing it around the track is old. Racing it means you can abuse it a bit which means you shouldnt have that a problem keeping the Evo in its powerband. The Evo can be pushed harder then the noble. So while in a shitty drivers hands the evo will still look good yes. But in a good drivers hands it would properly kill the noble.

Don,t get me wrong the Evo is a great car. As an all year rounder its the safe bet. You must admit though its a fast car not a drivers car. Even my grandmother could drive an evo quickly. Try a Noble or preferably an Atom or radical and you will see what a drivers car is which is a test of your skill not the cars. We all go through the stage your at but one day you will understand the fun starts on the other side :)

Both great cars but a correction is needed. The topgear power lap is not a Noble M400, it is a Noble M12 gto-3. If you watch the video you can see by the front lights it is the earlier model. The gto-3 model has no lsd, only a 5 speed box and around 340bhp. It also runs on normal road tyres not the trackday tyres and was driven by a different stig.
They did do a lap in the M400 against an old GT40 race car. They didn't publish the time but it was said to be in the 1:20's.

2:44 No use of heel and toe against turbo lag, not to mention she took a worse line... 2:50 Evo line was tighter than noble coming out of the hairpin meaning evo could have gone faster... "Man-Handled" I quote Jeremy Clarkson "one finger power-sliding"... Usually I'm not a ranter, and I wouldn't have been suprised if the noble won, but I ask why is the evo faster than the noble by 1.2 seconds on powerlaps and slower here? Answer: watch top gear :)

@tall757 you talk like you know everything but you really dont have a clue. the chassis set ups are completely different so of course their handling characteristics and driveability are going to be completely different. anyone who takes clarksons word over that of an experienced racing driver obviousley has no clue. by his own admission VBH is a much better driver than he is. also the TG track is a totally different circuit so the outcome will obviousley be different

@tall757 When she said "man-handled" she was refering to how difficult it was to keep it at the correct revs to minimize lag. On Top Gear the Stig had the same problem when he went around that hairpin on the power lap and let the revs drop so he was hardly moving. Yes he could have gone faster, but it takes more work because you have to down shift more often to keep the evo on boost.

@tall757 The FQ400 is a truely incredible car, for it to get beaten by the M400 doesn't take anything away from that fact. Laptimes for both on other tracks with better drivers will always prove the M400 to be quicker, its a race/track bred car vs what is essentially a rally car for the road.. the Evo would completely waste the M400 on a forrest stage, its just a case of horses for courses.

Damn that was unfair...(after I watched the noble on top gear where its actually slower)...Evidence, 2:44 she takes not only a shitty line, but she also mentions no use of heel and toe evidenced by massive turbo lag which = poor acceleration (noble is twin turbo'd so it doesn't get as much)... 2:49 does anybody notice that she holds a tighter line in the evo (she could have went in faster) the car didn't even fight to oversteer a bit coming out

The M400 is 700lbs lighter, 25 more horsepower. Its shouldn't even be compared to an EVO 8 MR FQ400. I love EVO's also will. But if your going to compare 2 cars at least do it to 2 cars that are in the same class. The M400 should be racing against a Ferrari 430, or 911 T.

In skilled hands the noble would make the Evo look very slow. If on the other hand you have limited natural ability buy the Evo it makes you feel like a pro but does the work for you.

Think about it, the track version of what already was an oustanding track car, the M12GTO, which is the M400 would easily beat the Evo.
You might want to look up some specs on them both, or some power to weight ratios and stop bitching on about how the Evo would have beaten it.......if you had any logic in your mind you'd realise the Evo didn't stand a chance.
The noble has 425 bhp for Christ's sake!

I tell you what... save yourself a few grand and buy yourself an Evo 8, the build quality is outstanding and the MPG is better on the 8 than the 9. p/w ratio is about 2%? difference i think?
Also I found that the transmission died quicker on the 9 than my current 8. (As they where breltch clutches)
